  1. Good morning from beautiful Southwest Florida. Another nice day coming up with sunny skies and a high of 85. We stay away from the stores on Black Friday. I like the quote. I'm going on a mini diet today, actually with a cruise coming up in 9 days I'll try to lose a couple of pounds by sail date. The good news is we usually only gain a pound or 2 at the most when we cruise. Some good football and soccer games yesterday. USA needs no worse than a tie against favorite England today. Thanks for The Daily, everyone stay well and have a great day.
  2. Yeah but you just gave away your secret. LOL
  3. Thanks for your great review, we sail on the NA on Dec. 4th which along with the Eurodam are our favorite HAL ships. We've always had great cruises with HAL but I was starting to get concerned as some reviews lately have been on the negative side but your review makes me feel a lot better.
  4. Good morning from beautiful Southwest Florida. A little misty right now but becoming sunny with a high of 85. Happy Thanksgiving Day to one and all. A great quote by Anne Frank. I wonder why there is a day for D.B Cooper who hijacked a plane in 1970? on a flight from Portland to Seattle, IIRC the plane landed in Seattle where he released the passengers and received his ransom money, the plane took off and Cooper jumped out of the plane with a parachute around a half hour later somewhere over Washington State and was never seen again. Bottom line, the guy was a hijacker and a thief and does not deserve a day. I love Turkey Dinner not only on Thanksgiving but quite often during the course of the year. We have been to San Juan many times while cruising and are going to visit again on our upcoming cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam. Thanks for The Daily, everyone stay well and have a great day.
  5. We are early diners, usually one of the first in line around 5:15 depending on the ships schedule. We never have problems with long lines or long times for the meal itself, usually our meals have taken between 75 and 90 minutes which is a nice pace. We usually have an appetizer, soup, salad, the main course and dessert. We are sailing Dec 4th on the Nieuw Amsterdam and actually have fixed early sitting on that cruise. I'm reading some posts that some are having long dinner times of over 2 hours, we've been on 68 cruises and 6 in the last year and never had a dinner that took more than 90 minutes.
  6. Dutch Cafe is only on Pinnacle Class ships.
  7. Unfortunately Covid changed everything.
  8. The Maasdam, Ryndam, Veendam and Statendam were all what HAL named Statendam class ships. They were classic beautiful vessels. They all had a great library as part of the Exploration Cafe IIRC on deck 4 and the beautiful Ocean Bar lounge which always had a small band with dance music before and during the dinner hours. The Explorers lounge was also beautiful and classy as were the dining rooms and of course they all had the traditional Promenade deck. IIRC we sailed on Statendam class ships at least 12 times. When the Vista and Signature class ships were introduced they have become our favorite HAL ships especially the Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam but the Statendam class ships will always have a soft spot in our hearts.
  9. Can you believe the prices in 1962, those were the days. I remember paying 25 cents for a pack of cigarettes, twenty five cents for a bus or subway ride in Chicago. Ticket price for a grandstand seat at a White Sox or Cubs game was $1.25. I was 16 years old in 1962 and managed to get a vendor's job for the baseball season at Comiskey Park and Wrigley Field, sold Coca Cola for 25 cents, peanuts for 15 cents, pop corn was 25 cents and an Ice cream cup was also 25 cents, commission was 20% or 5 cents for every Coke you sold.
  10. Good morning from beautiful Southwest Florida. Weather has been warm but we haven't seen the sun much this week which is really rare for the Sunshine State. Good selection of days, what would we have done in our teen years without a jukebox in our favorite hamburger joint. Einstein was a genius but sometimes wise men probably have to solve problems. I would try the meal but pass on the drink. Huge upset yesterday at the World Cup with Saudi Arabia beating Argentina, France looked tough as they beat Australia quite easily. Thanks for The Daily, everyone stay well and have a great day.
  11. Lenda, I was going to include the Challenger but then there might have been no stopping me as I have a pretty good memory and I might of gone on and on with more memorable occasions and started to bore others.
  12. Have a great birthday! Some days are etched in our minds forever as we remember exactly what we were doing like the Kennedy assassination, July 20, 1969 when Apollo 11 landed on the Moon and the terrorist attack on the USA on 9.11.2001.
  13. I agree with all you said, the US went into a defensive shell in the second half. I did think that 9 minutes added on for stoppage was fair.
  14. Good morning from beautiful Southwest Florida. Good selection of days as I like cranberry sauce and I love taking drives but I don't have freckles. The quote is probably true for Hemingway as he had issues. Pass on the food and drink. USA with a disappointing tie against Wales in their first game in the World Cup, if they want to make it out of the group round and advance they must now get at least a tie against England on Friday and then beat Iran while England beats Wales. Of course there are other scenarios like the USA beating England but I'm going with the most probable. My finger is getting better and I feel like I can play golf but I'll wait until I see the hand surgeon next Tuesday to get the OK from him. I still have slight swelling on the tip and it's still a little sore when touching things. The thing is that I have an interlocking golf grip and my left forefinger never comes in contact with the grip on the club, I tried swinging the club a few times without any pain at all. Thanks for The Daily, everyone stay well and have a great day.
  15. We sailed on the NA right before the Pandemic and sailed 5 times on her sister the Eurodam so we are very familiar with those ships which are our favorites.
  16. We stick with the basics with a Manhattan being our favorite pre- dinner cocktail. Sometimes we go with a Vodka and Tonic or a Bourbon and Ginger ale.
  17. We also like the Vista and Signature class ships more than the Pinnacle class ships
  18. Thanks for the review, makes me feel a lot better as we sail on the NA on Dec. 4th, some reviews have been pretty negative.
  19. I've never heard of the port of the day, thanks for the photos but I don't think I'll add to my bucket list.
