  1. Sailed on the Westerdam-WD July 4-11,1992. Fell in love with ship and sailing to Alaska. I will be continuing my love of Alaska in June for the 28 day sailing adventure. Finally, visiting a new port,Nome, on my 14th trip to Alaska.
  2. d9704011, yes that is correct. I went down to the theater for passport check and no one was there. Went back and got my luggage. With there being only one elevator, finally caught it on the second opening. I guess it’s up to customs on which procedure to use. Before cameras came into use, we always had customs in the terminal. I forgot to add earlier how much I enjoyed following along on your adventures.
  3. I have disembarked several times in San Diego. This past January the immigration was done in the terminal and the previous January is was done like yours. It is so much easier in the terminal.
  4. Don’t give up on HAL yet. Presently on the Zaandam, we are having classical music played before early seating dinner. Although it isn’t listed in the Daily. Jo
  5. I’m on a12 day cruise beginning December 22. The premium is $189.99 and the multi is $283.99. Jo
  6. No notification for the partial sailing on December 22, 2023. Jo
  7. I have sailed many holiday cruises. My best memories are the strong smell of ginger from the Gingerbread village display. Will be sailing again this year for these two holidays with family. Jo
  8. I put our medallions in shadow boxes with assorted decorations I picked up from Michaels.
  9. After two hours I finally got my AARP and educator credit. One fifteen day trip didn’t qualify because of special promotion. The three that I had just booked all qualified. It seems that length, days, and room category depended on credit received from AARP. I asked about past bookings, which I have three, would qualify. He checked and the same applied. What took so long was that he had to go to upper management with my AARP membership number and put it in manually. Each booking had to be entered separately. I felt lucky to have received the service I did. Although, this was my second go around with them. Persistence pays off.
  10. I don’t see why not. As a solo cruiser, I get credit for educator & AARP. Jo
  11. I have booked several cruises in the last two months. I decided to check if I has received credit. I should receive credit for being a teacher as well as AARP. I had not been credited with either one. Customer service was of no help. She gave me a number for resolutions. Before I called, I did a fake booking and both credits showed up. Talked to a nice guy in Boston. I received my teacher credit, but he couldn’t find my AARP listing. I told him it was on my fake booking. He couldn’t find this information. He would send the details to someone else. I even went on HAL’s page for credits. It said I had already redeemed my AARP information. Haven’t got up the courage to tackle this again, but I will.
  12. There has been some post about the water level in the Panama Canal. I thought I would share this information with those who are interested. YouTube. Why the Panama Canal is Dying….Looking4 is the site. Jo
  13. I’ll be debarking on one HAL ship, and getting on another the next day. Can I put my tags on my luggage and leave it at the terminal? It sure would be convenient if I could. Thanks. Jo
  14. Our first sailing was on July 4, 1992 to Alaska. I always thought she had character. I still have the menus from that sailing. Our love for HAL and Alaska still remains thanks to our first cruise.
  15. Up date: just checked Navigator and I have a room. It is right next door to the one I have for three weeks. What a relief🤗. Another time I just moved a couple of doors down. Happy sailing now!!!
  16. I have a guarantee cabin on the Nieuw Amsterdam leaving Wednesday, April 26. Wasn’t to stressed about not getting a cabin up until now. Driving down to San Diego tomorrow. Called HAL this morning. Supervisor said I will be issued a room when I check in. Has this happened to anyone this close to departure? Thanks, Jo
  17. Hello, I also recommend luggage forward. In fact, my luggage tags are arriving today by FedEx. I do not leave for my trip until the end of April. Your luggage has to be ready at least a week to reach your destination. It lifts a great burden to have someone else take care of the luggage. To me, it is worth the extra expense..
  18. Yes, they send you the paperwork for your return. You will meet the representative at the door of the terminal. The representative will have a sign. Just leave it in their hands.
  19. I received one hidden in the basket of my scooter on the Koningdam in January. The note referenced me to Facebook. I don’t have an account, so it was hidden in my luggage.
  20. I highly recommend this service. I used it the first time from CA to Boston. I tracked it all the way across country. My bag arrived several days before I got there. It arrived home a day earlier than scheduled . I am now traveling by myself. I do not have anyone getting the bags off the turnstiles for me. It was so nice to say to the HAL representative that I didn’t have any luggage. I was apprehensive when I disembarked about where my luggage would be. It was near the exit and a rep saw me, and carried my bag out for me. I’m using the service again in May.
  21. Good evening, I couldn’t agree more with everything said here. One thing I might add is luggage . From reading many post on here, I suggest Luggage Direct for your luggage. It lifted such a burden by not having to travel with a large bag. I simply could not comprehend trying to lift a 50lb bag from the carousel. In fact, I just made contact to have my bag picked up from Vancouver. It will be delivered to my house in California on my return.
  22. I was also on this cruise and on deck 5. There were two blues trays near the rear of the ship. My travel campion now has Covid. Her nephew sent her with medicine to take in case she had it on the ship. She did go to the shows, but did not wear a mask. For breakfast, we ate breakfast by the pool. She had lunch in the Lido and dinner in the dining room. Our table mate had Covid. Because she spoke so softly, I was very close to her so I could hear what she was saying. One member of our CCgroup had Covid, and his wife not. She also shared a room, but she wore a mask also. They definitely kept the cases hush, hush.
  23. HAL transportation has reached its maximum, and are not adding new passengers. Thanks for the responses.
