  1. It was nice to be outside on deck 7 . the promenade deck . The Large Spinnaker Lounge 5 O ' Clock Bar somewhere Photo Gallery , cameras , Binoculars both ways Grand Atrium Photo walk Ginza Atrium Ginza Entrance
  2. The NCL Sun is docked at the pier while the HAL Oosterdam is having some problems disembarking by tender . We have been there 4 times with the HAL Zaandam missing Ushuaia on Christmas Day on 2018 . Thus we only made it 3 times , less than an mile away from the dock .
  3. Another painting of Gatsby's . The next photo was some art on the left , left center was Gatsby's while the middle distant was the Casino and the far right was a desk where we saw Monica at work several times . The main dining room where we never ate at .
  4. The next up was the Casino which reeked of stale smoke . We're not players . Gatsby's is at the confluence of 3 dining selections Upstairs is Ginza A walk through is Le Bistro And to the left is La Cucina . We didn't eat here but did have it delivered to our room our evening The Kitchen reminded me of a morgue which I've seen too many of , all stainless Steel
  5. The morning after the Falkland Islands was relatively calm so I decided to take my camera for an early walk of the ship . I usually do this on the first day to familiarize myself with ship and learn to best routes as to where we want to go . Since we were in Montevideo on day 2 I decided to wait when we had a couple of days at sea . So we begin our tour on Deck 9 where our cabin was . First up was a map and the decision to drop down to deck 6 forward with the Stardust Theater . I immediately recognized the Art Deco theme from my childhood when I grew up surfing in South Beach , Miami . They used to have a fishing pier then and a dog track at 1st Street which we natives considered to be the true South Beach . We didn't find any shows to our taste there so we didn't go even though suite guests had a special section . We did consider the Band on the Run show as we thought that it would be a Palm Mc Cartney and Wings tribute band since it was named after one of his Albums . We did see him and Wings in Concert in Miami once , but this show featured other music of the era , not a tribute band .
  6. Well you are in the Bay and we are praying that you have good weather and a nice day with lots of penguins and whales . 🙏 🐧🐳🐋
  7. Almost time for the Super Bowl here so guess who we will be pulling for ? And to cap it off Larry Csonka , the MVP of Super Bowl VIII from 50 years ago will present the Lombardi Trophy to the winner of Super Bowl LVIII . That year not only did Csonka and the Miami Dolphins win the Super bowl but they are the only untied , undefeated team in American Football history . I was in boot camp in the U S Navy and as RCPO I made a bet with the previous RCPO of the special companies that we were in . He was from Washington D C , the Dolphin's opponent for the game and we had bet $ 50 on the game . They graduated that weekend and so I thought that I'd never see him or the money again . But true to his word he paid the money with a handshake . The Dolphins one the next Super Bowl also and tonight the K C Chiefs will try to duplicate the feat of 2 in a row .
  8. The Falkland Islands was the second high point in terms of scenery so we had planned dinner at Le Bistro to celebrate before we turned and burned our way back to BA . We were seated in the center section on a busy night . So when we saw a corner near the window open up we requested it . Fortunately our wish was granted . We had saved our sail away from BA bottle so it was our drink for the evening Dinner was served We noticed a pin on one of the employees that they showed us The best part of the meal behind the excellent service and food Pat had the rat and I had a roll but we shared of course !
  9. We don't understand that type of logic ,When you spend all of that time and fuel to reach there why not stay and play ? That's why we usually add on days before and after a trip if we can . It doesn't seem to be a good marketing strategy for NCL .
  10. We will try to help if you with ports would like , especially with food . We do think that is a nice way to get to know a place . And we did hear that news and the story about Princess Kate . We both had 2 abdominal surgeries and it can be quite trying . She can't afford the weight loss . I'm 6 ' 2" and dropped to 65.5 Kg. And poor Pat couldn't drink anything for more than a week with hers . As for the King he's only 2 years older than I so it always prudent to watch and learn . We will keep him, the Medical staff and family in our hopes and prayers . It sounds like the transition that Argentina is going thru something similar although they threw a strike on the week after we disembarked from our cruise . It did throw us off a bit but we were out of BA when it happened and a number of people in our hotel in El Calafate had to spend an extra night as the airlines had some strikes throughout the country .The Labour Unions mostly .
  11. If you are looking for something to do in Ushuaia there is a small Kiosk near the end of the pier that runs a 4 hour harbour tour at 10 AM at a good price . If not the lunch place where we ate was good but we would have gotten the Large Crab instead of the medium as the tummy stretching exercising aboard the Star were working their magic .
  12. We aren't there so you're our man on the scene . But you appear to be headed to Elephant Island with the dotted line projection course show you bouncing back to the Falkland Islands . No projection toward the Antarctica peninsula . We hope that it is wrong and that you make it to Paradise Bay . https://www.cruisemapper.com/?imo=9195157 There is a new thread on the Roll Call section that says that the next cruise on the 18th will miss Antarctica totally . We hate it when cruise lines do that after final payment .
  13. Have you made any plans for shore excursions on the Canal cruise ? It may seem like an off the wall question but I just read something about Queen Elizabeth II today . We don't hear much about the Royals here so we wondered how the new King has been received .
  14. Excellent , when and how long in Ushuaia ? Any plans ? The only photos we got from Cape Horn was in 2013 . We made a sprint and missed it on our Zaandam trip to Antarctica , the last trip .
  15. You're welcome . Mic and Rosie did do something different perhaps they can offer some help if you haven't chosen yet . Have you heard the rumors or anything official about reduced time in Antarctica Chris ?
  16. Instead of heeding the words of some new friends from the ship we just bit the bullet and joined the line . About 1630 , 2 -1/2 hours after the posted time we boarded our tender . It was a 1 hour wait in line . It seems like we were not the only ones waiting Pat had tried earlier for a priority tender boarding that was in the NCL suite literature but that didn't work here . The last time that we were here they had used both docks to load tenders including the one where the sea lions were . More tenders and docks could have speeded up loading time . The other dock in use . We did pick up a little penguin for later Recovering the tenders We were scheduled to pick up our passports before dinner but we were leaving and I wanted to take some photos of the sail out . Pat agreed to pick them up while I took photos . She said that there was a large , well attended Mass being celebrated in Portuguese , next to the Library where our Bible study was held . We were curious how they got the word out since it was not posted in the Freestyle Daily .
  17. Meanwhile back in Stanley , after touring the church we noticed that the Queue for return tenders had passed the church and it was nearly 2 pm , the cut off date for the last tender according to the Freestyle Daily We decided as all good cruisers do to allow our stomach to regulate our actions and headed for the Victory Bar , Neil's choice for a pint and some fish and chips . The gent seated at the Bar helped us and posed for a photo while the video took in the scene . And since the line was still blocks long after the Victory , we went to where we had wanted to go on our last trip here , the Globe Tavern to compare the experience ( besides , we had 60 GBP to spend ) .
  18. Like 2 ships that pass in the night . The Hal Oosterdam headed North to Ushuaia from Antarctica passed the NCL Star headed South toward Antarctica from Ushuaia . Good sailing and fair weather to both of you . https://www.cruisemapper.com/?imo=9221281
  19. It looks as though the NCL Star and the HAL Oosterdam may pass each other this evening or early tomorrow morning going in opposite directions .
  20. The interior of Christ Church Cathedral we loved the Stained glass windows . The first 2 were Jesus as the Good Shepard and Jesus loves the little children . Next were the Disciples , brothers and fishermen Peter and Andrew The great Commission The windows behind the alter The Alter woodwork detail Pipe Organ The church from the Alter
  21. We did do our longest single cruise from Alaska to Ft. Lauderdale which included the original Canal and lasted 6 weeks . You may like to read about it and get some ideas if you would like . You can find it here but on a different cruise line , HAL .
  22. Whale bone graveyard and the Christ Church Cathedral The Whalebone Arch https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christ_Church_Cathedral_(Falkland_Islands)
  23. After our walk on the beach we decided to make one last trip to the Kings round table to look for eggs or chicks before grabbing our box lunch and heading back to the Stanley . Some of the penguins were still napping oddly . We did spy this one checking it's egg More people were crowding in so we had hoped to head back . Even the Kings seemed to feel crowded and 3 of them engaged in a 3 way slap fest . We drove back a different way near the water
