  1. geeko1, thanks for your response. I do understand that we have to take a "tender" to the island. My question was, once we are on the island, how do we get to a beach, and other things we want to see. Can we walk, or as I said, take a Taxi on this island?

    The caye is 1.2 Acres

  2. Hello beshears, last time we were in Belize, we did the cave tubing and it was pretty cool. This time we are still looking into excursions as well. If I come up with anything I’ll post here. Sorry you’re getting some rude responses, that is unacceptable!! You will have a great time whatever you decide!

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

I know what you mean explaining facts to somebody is always rude

  3. Thank you for the info, I will keep those items in mind. So I take it the entire FQ is basically the tourist area? For some reason I always assumed that it was just basically 1 street and the rest was just town. Like Bealle street in Memphis.

The French Quarter is perhaps half of the tourist area of the city. The Garden District the cemeteries Battery Street Julia Street are all in other areas

  4. You can also download a website that has all the parade schedules just know that the local media will carry any last-minute cancellations or rescheduling. Most parades are going to go at the schedule time some parades will be rescheduled maybe an hour earlier to start depending on the weather and there is one parade in Plaquemine that's rescheduled to Monday night so there is no hard-and-fast rule.

  5. Geejo1, thanks for what you had for me to click on. I was getting excited, until someone posted that I would not be in that area, as I was coming in on Carnival. What a shame. Thanks for trying anyway.

sorry about that, cruises are a crap way to see stuff arent they.

  6. This tour is less than 15 minutes long, the chocolate was horrible in my opinion, very very bitter. The tour is right there in the port. Come off the tender turn left towards the Diamond shop and it is on the right hand side.

I know your comment is meant to be humorous but some may not realize it. Here is a recipe for how the Maya drank it. chocolate, mayan style. Remove the shells and grind the seeds into a fine paste. Mix paste with water, chili peppers, and cornmeal. Pour the resulting concoction back and forth from pot to cup until frothy foam develops on top.

  7. Can you provide the other information I asked about? Any info would be appreciated.

Getting a bit concerned that we won't find a good beach to get to for the day.

Actually I misspoke in my earlier post the airlines are currently not flying to Caye Caulker. I thought I had the post fixed but apparently not. You would have to fly to Ambergris Caye or Placencia. You would have to take the Water Taxi to get to Caye Caulker. People that go to Caye Caulker generally go to the split to the bar.

  8. Do you have more information on this flying option? Is it a small plane? A helicopter? Do you have a name or number? Cost?

At the moment there are no flights to Caye Caulker you would have to fly to ambergris Caye. They both fly Caravans.

  9. I Googled it. If I'm not mistaken, it's almost an hour long ride to Caye Caulker by water taxi.

I hear you can fly there in about 15 minutes, but I haven't figured out all the logistics on that yet.

It is pretty straightforward you take a taxi to the airport to get on the airplane and fly out there. There are two local airlines that fly out there Tropic Air and Maya air.

  10. If we do a beach that is close by, once we tender in Belize, are there any that are free, or do we have to pay to use one, and what would be the name/s? We don't want to snorkel, or anything like that, just lay on the beach.:)

This youtube will show you how nice the beaches are at Placencia. you can see it is a very beachy sort of place. The sidewalk in the video is the main drag.

  11. I'll be on NCL Getaway and going to Harvest Caye. I'm planning on taking the ferry to Placencia to check it out, but wondering if others have gone beyond Placencia to see other stuff.

Hundreds of thousands of tourists go to Belize every year and go all over the country for everything from butterflies to Chocolate to macaws. There are thousands of expats British American Canadian and even Italian living in Belize

  12. Thank you for the suggestion. I will definitely check this out. Did you take a taxi to the Eco Park? If so, about how much did it cost? Also, did you take your car seat? I just keep reading about the lack of seat belts, but we plan to use our car seat in Cozumel.

    Appreciate you!

You're all P wasn't quite as rational as your follow-up

  13. Hello fellow travelers -

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for what to do in Belize with a 15 month old. We have been to Belize a few years ago and didn't really care for it. (more situational - it rained all day, took this crazy boat ride, and I fell at the ruins)

My plan was to probably stay on board for Belize and venture out at our other stops, but I thought I'd ask if anyone had a suggestion.

And yes, I know, many folks have opinions on children and cruising, but this is our family vacation. :D

    Many thanks in advance!

I think it probably rains in a lot of countries
