  1. Could you please elaborate on that? Where is that and how do I get there? Thank you. :D

Look at them on gmaps and YouTube. I think they are too far out for any Cruise tours to get there. Look at snorkeling around the Blue Hole on YouTube. Still you did ask about the best snorkeling.

  2. I am so confused about what it best to do for snorkeling in Belize. I just booked a last minute cruise so now trying to figure out shore excursions. The ship has 3 tours, but they never give you info as to where they go or details.

It appears that Rendezvous Caye is the best place to go? But I have searched and cannot find a tour company that goes there that is still in business. Should we maybe just go on the Sun Kissed Goffs Caye through Island Marketing? Or just pick a ship tour and do it?

Any suggestions is very welcome at this point.

The best snorkeling in Belize will be on the atolls

  3. We will also be making a stop in Belize in April on the Carnival Magic and our port time is 8am-5pm. Not sure if you are on Carnival but they stay on Florida time. I have done a ton of research on this and local time will be 6am-3pm. You might want to double check all your water taxi times to this. We wanted to do the Hol Chan and shark alley tour and were told be the company we will not have enough time because the tour is 5.5 hours and starts at 9am local time. Our last tender is 4:15 ship time so 2:15 local time. We are now looking into booking a private tour so it can start at 8am local. Good luck!

Hol Chan and shark ray alley are on the reef at ambergris Caye. You can fly to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye and have more time in the water

  4. We are still trying to figure out what to do in Belize, nothing gives you much beach time. We are seriously thinking of just staying on the ship that day unless we can find something that gives us at least 3.5-4 hours of beach time, has loungers to rent and umbrellas. Not finding much to go with.

Belize is really about scuba and snorkel and national parks, cave tubing and kayaking rivers and stuff like that so yeah you might want to stay on the ship.

  5. you might want to check your times. I tried to do Caveman a couple years ago but the time difference in Belize in May will be two hours earlier than ship time once daylight savings time sets forward in March if I remember correctly. So you are really getting there at 6am and leaving at 3pm island time....which means later ferry and tour over by 1pm to get back to ship on time. We didn't want to risk it and didn't want to take a small plane to save time. Just double check before you make your plans, I could be wrong.

There is no daylight savings time in Belize. Belize time is the same as our Central Time.

  6. We are going on the Getaway in July and really have no interest in staying on Harvest Caye. My plan is to take the ferry over to Placencia and rent a golf cart. Are there any good beaches that I could go to that has decent snorkeling? Also, is it safe for a family to ride around the town on their own?

I should add that snorkeling is all about the reef or the atolls. Placancia is 20 miles from the reef and CC and AC are right next to the reef.

  7. I suppose you could say there's offbeach snorkeling pretty well anywhere on the planet. There is no place in Belize where the reef is close to the shore like it is on Roatan. Actually the center of diving and snorkeling in Belize is ambergris Caye/ San Pedro.

  8. There were several officers around that I assumed were port security, especially out around the buses. As for the locals most, if not all, of the locals we saw just ignored the tour bus. And since tourism is the second leading industry in the country I can't really see them not wanting the cruise ships coming in but I can't speak for them. Our tour guide kept trying to get our group to move to Belize.

I think you would be fine walking around the shops or taking a ship excursion, but I sure wouldn't go walking around Belize City on my own.

Belize is mixed on cruises. Some do see the money they bring in but some want to keep Belize wild and natural. Most of Belize is in natural parks. The locals tend to see cruisers as fearful tourists and obviously find that disconcerting

Belize City has a great little Museum and a nice Cathedral

The beaches in Placencia are amongst the best in Belize. Obvious Placencia is safe to ride around in giving all of the expats and tourists that are there and the fact that the cruise line has a ferry there.

  11. Thank you! I did some basic googling, but what I was having trouble figuring out was if these things were available if you just walked off the ship. Some reviews made reference to a ferry, and I just couldn't get a mental image of the layout. Especially since some reviews were complaining about lack of food. I was trying to determine if I had to sign up for something just to get a ferry ride to where there's actually stuff, or we could sign up for nothing, walk off the boat, and still have things to do. It sounds like it's the latter, which is wonderful news. :)

Have someone show you how to use gmaps. The thing is only a few thousand yards long so it won't take long to figure it out.

  12. I don't know why, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around how Harvest Caye works. From what I understand, it's a relatively new port, and the only excursions are the ones sponsored by the cruise line. So far, nothing has really stuck my fancy on the excursion list (at least not for the price points), but I can't stand the thought of going all the way to Belize and not even getting off the ship. I've only been on a cruise once, and it was MANY years ago, but I think I remember that at one port, we just got off and wandered around and did some shopping within walking distance without doing an actual excursion. Is that something we could do at Harvest Caye? Just wander around a bit? Is there any shopping? Restaurants? Open beaches? Or is there literally nothing there unless you do an excursion? The vibe I've picked up from reading is that it's the latter, but somehow I'm having a hard time believing that can be true...

Can anyone shed some light on this port?

HC is a purpose built tourist trap that gets laughed at by Belizeans. It is for those that are afraid of travel.

  13. Thanks for letting me know time wise how long by water taxi. I would prefer doing it this way than by airplane. I'm not into riding small airplanes.

You will have to watch the weather when you get there if it's really windy it'll be really wavy and the taxi ride will be very uncomfortable

  14. We are planning on being in Belize. How do we go about getting to San Pedro and Ambergris Caye? Do we need a tour guide?

The subway is down at the moment so your options are the water taxi or Tropic Air or Maya air. You don't need a tour to snorkel The Reef but you do need a guide to snorkel the Marine reserves in other words whole Chan or shark raye
