  1. @dobiemom and @smitty34877 Thank you for taking the coastal watches for 3:30 this morning. DH and I covered central time zone. What’s going on?  I rarely have a restless night, thankfully.

DH was a “paperboy” for several years in his youth. He was very proud of his throwing skills, carrying them through to being to star pitcher on his championship high school baseball team. During our extended power (and internet) outage we bought an actual paper copy of the paper. I was stunned that the retail price of a daily paper is now $3.00!

@dfish I’m laughing about the Tooth Fairy. I clearly remember my first payout in the early ‘60’s. A dollar and a dime and a penny. Fairly certain that was the biggest haul I got.

@cruising sister Always holding Murphy in my heart. More happily, thank you for the picture of your baseball fans!  We’re Royals fans, and it has been a most difficult year!  We really enjoyed watching Ned Yost’s pre-game celebration on Friday. Hoping for a complete turnaround next year!

@Crazy For Cats I am so sorry to hear about your DM, and do hope the prognosis continues to improve.

DH continues to improve and is just about as independent as always, just not quite as flexible. Thank you all for contributing to his steady improvement!

We have another week of dry upper 90’s, then it looks as if we might catch a break. HOORAY!

Everyone stay safe, happy, and upright (in every way)!

  2. Good morning, everyone!  First and most importantly thank you all for the prayers, good wishes, and positive thoughts for Nicholas!  I can't thank you enough - even though I haven't been attentive to CC, I've been well aware that this wonderful group has us in its collective mind.  🙏

He were released from the hospital late last Saturday afternoon. Odd how slowly hospitals work. We knew by 10 that we were homeward bound, but it was after 5 before we drove away.  Mercy!  He's doing well, up and around with a walker for stability. We've been gradually cutting back on the serious pain meds, and today he says is the day he stops taking them. These are all giant steps in the right direction!  He has an appointment with our Primary doctor on Thursday. Until then, he's taking it very slowly and carefully, and staying downstairs. I am valet, drug-dealer, laundress, cook, tech support, and all around on-call fetcher. I know MANY of you know exactly what I'm talking about!  I am also more than grateful that I have these tasks to do, and I'm able to do them.

I will try to catch up on how everyone is doing. I hope baby Murphy is continuing to improve and grow stronger!  Terri, Annie, Smitty, you've been in my thoughts. Also, I'm hoping to read that our Florida friends weathered the storm.

On a selfish note, we are supposed to fly to Seattle four weeks from today (6 weeks after Nick's accident) to board Westerdam for 4 weeks - trans Pacific and circle Japan. I am cautiously optimistic that we'll be able to do it, and SO looking forward to many sea days for both of us to recover.

Thank you all again, good and caring friends!

  3. Please add me to the list of Dailyites whose DH has health concerns. Mine fell on Sunday, and is now the host to four broken ribs and a gash on the forehead. We’re still in the hospital, but expecting to go home today or tomorrow. Fortunately no concussion, but he had a chest tube for several days, and is quite bruised. As others, he has displayed a dramatic streak, but is generally a cooperative and motivated patient.
it has been an experience - one that I didn’t think we really needed.
    Thank you all

  4. We're on the 26-day upcoming Seattle - Yokohama - Yokohama, and can't wait. As @Petronillus, all our post-Covid sailings have been on Pinnacle class ships. I'm thinking though - Holland America ship (check), Ocean (check), HIA (check). We'll be fine!
I do expect to miss Club Orange dining, Grand Dutch, and Gelato. I'll survive.
BTW, Petronillus, I do like your signature line!  You must be a darned good husband.

Paul, thank you for the explanation of another Jewish holiday.  Thanks to you, I'm learning more about your religion and traditions.  I think knowing more and understanding others beliefs makes a difference for the better in how we treat each other.

Lenda, amen amen to that!  That's precisely the same concept of my mantra "Travel is the only way to save the world".

@kochleffelI heartily agree with Lenda's thanks for the continuing education.

  6. So if it's for new bookings only, HAL will get an object lesson into how to P*** off ships full of otherwise happy HAL cruisers with AARP numbers. We currently have two bookings which would qualify for the $200 level credit, and I'm willing to bet we don't get it.  As I am an unlucky gambler (no lottery winnings here), I hope I am wrong again on my bet!  I do have my official notification that I've enrolled in the program though.

  7. Being an obedient cruiser, I always watch the video and get processed at my designated place with my keycard. On two separate sailings I’ve gotten a naughty letter that I haven’t done one or the other, but the letter is not specific. Has any other innocent party had this happen?

I’m mildly appalled at these infractions in my permanent record, and fear I may be used as a dummy in an overboard drill!

  8. It's been a while since we've been to one of the tastings, but I'm about ready to try again.

The last one, the Wine Snob and the Sommelier were going back and forth over whether the notes were red or black currant. My comment to DH - I smell baloney!

    Happy tasting, and many laughs!!

  9. I agree that these suites should likely not be Neptunes. HOWEVER, put me in the camp of liking them in the proper circumstances. We had one (knowingly) on NS last October repositioning from Quebec City to Ft Lauderdale. We thought that since there was a good chance of not-the-best weather, we probably wouldn't use the balcony much. We loved the forward-facing window, and the shower is the best we've ever had. We almost accidentally booked one on the Koningsdam, but changed that in a hurry when we discovered there was no forward window and the bathroom was small, and single-sinked. You'll want to carefully check the deck plans to be sure. Another plus to that sailing was that we also had the very best cabin stewards EVER in ~25 cruises.
