  1. I was on the June 18 Koningsdam sailing and we had a group of pre teen/early teen kids on board who behaved terribly. They would run up and down the stateroom hallways SCREAMING at each other and then laughing that they were screaming. At one point, we were walking to the MDR for dinner and they came running down that hallway screaming and laughing. I am in my mid 40’s and have kids of my own. I like kids. This cruise, however, made me wonder what was going on and why didn’t the parents ever tell them this was unacceptable behavior? The parents were there on the MDR occasion and they laughed because the kids were having so much fun. As another person pointed out, they always take the equipment away for Glacier Bay. GB is supposed to be a quiet experience and they don’t want the noise pollution going thru. Is it possible that’s the day the equipment disappeared?
  2. I booked this cruise also and booked one of the forward facing ocean view rooms. I plan to be out and about and maybe rent a cabana for the trip.
  3. All user error. Lol! I had to dig a little and do some research but the times I got the bonus days, I was on the Zaandam and the Veendam where the verandah rooms are considered suites. So, I did go from a suite to a suite.
  4. I’ve never booked higher than a verandah category. We travel on a tight budget still having kids at home. I guess we’ve gotten lucky. We’ve had 3 upsell offers over the years. The casino one we didn’t get any bonuses. But, the one we took before COVID, we got an upsell about 2 weeks before the cruise for $149 per person and accepted and got the bonus. It sounds like we shouldn’t have but I’ve been the lucky recipient 2 times. Now it makes me wonder why?
  5. I’ve received the suite bonus days when I’ve taken an upsell. The only time I didn’t was on a casino offer. OP, what room are you in? If it’s one of the sideways ones like 5050 or 5053, I’d keep that over getting an upgrade. Those rooms are really great
  6. It seems to be hit or miss. I’ve had mine show up quickly but others have said it’s taken months. I was able to book something right away and they noted it that I was waiting on the FCC
  7. We love Holland America and are branching out to Carnival (one of a kind itinerary). Holland America has great music venues on their newest ships. They have the Rolling Stone Rock Room, The BB King Club, and Lincoln Center Stage; a little something for everyone. We just got off the Alaska itinerary with them last week. Things are changing for them from what we've seen in the past. The had a painting class where there is an instructor on board and two hours later you've painted a nice landscape. They had line dancing classes. They had lots and lots of trivia (a few times a day). There was bingo on all the sea days. Happy hour in the bars. Sidewalk sales in the lido and atrium. They are lacking in evening stage shows but we don't watch them so it hasn't impacted us. We are also jeans and tee shirt people. Those are fine in the MDR on every night except the"formal" night which I now believe they call "dressy". On dressy night, a polo and slacks are sufficient. No need to dress up any more than that for men. I wore slacks and a nice blouse and cardigan. Food is always subjective but on the newer ships there is a lot to choose from. They have asian fusion, italian, a steakhouse, pizza, hamburgers and hotdogs, and the Dutch Cafe with lots of fun Dutch treats. I think they are worth trying to see if you like the product. I'd recommend the 3 newest ships though for the first time with them. We've sailed on all their category of ships and find we like them all for different reasons.
  8. It was the ships inventory department 1 888 628 8107. They were very helpful and friendly.
  9. I was. I just called the normal ships inventory department and asked what upsells were available. And once I knew the prices for the categories, I asked for a specific room and got it. Super easy.
  10. I’ve only sailed Holland America and have my first Carnival cruise booked. It’s disappointing to hear that Carnival does not have the same interactive TV options that Holland has.
  11. On my Alaska sailing, I had a free OV. At 3 weeks out I called to see what offers were available. It was $349 obstructed balcony, $449 Vista Suite, $999 Neptune.
  12. We got off on Saturday when you got onboard. We had a wonderful week and I hope you do too.
  13. We drove to Vancouver and border patrol didn’t ask. We got on the cruise ship and no one asked. We disembarked and no one asked. We drove through border patrol again and no one asked. So, I had the QR codes but not one person asked to see them. Maybe they’re attached to our passport?
  14. We saw a humpback whale which they said was rare, a bear, seals, and a few eagles. We were on the small boat excursion so we got really close to both glaciers.
  15. We passed the Spirit in Tracy Arm yesterday. Here are pics if you were onboard
  16. I don’t spend much time online much anymore so I hadn’t heard about your husband. I am so very sorry for your loss. 😔
  17. We sailed in December 2021 and there were tablecloths, tea time, and robes in the cabin. Not sure about a Captains party though. We had a great time and have another cruise in just a few days.
  18. I welcome the ending of most of it (testing, mandates) but I’m willing to roll with the punches too. It’s all about being flexible right now. And yes, let your wallet do the talking. Things will be or get to where the mass market wants it at based on how the money is being spent.
  19. We leave on Saturday for our Alaska cruise and have not received this email. It won’t change our plans other than making sure we have extra masks packed.
  20. A few years ago, I was booked on a cruise that was oversold. I live close to the departure port so I was able to accept the offer which was for a full refund plus a free 7 day cruise to a destination of my choosing. Definitely call to clarify the offer.
  21. Those are indeed dolphins of the Cephalorhynchus commersonii family. The first time I saw them in Alaska I also thought Orca but the naturalist onboard had great information and confirmed they were indeed dolphins. hope you’re enjoying your trip. Alaska is a favorite of mine. We’ve been at least 8 times now.
  22. It seems like you have the same version of the update that I have. I like most of it but need the cabin selection by number back again.
  23. Thanks for the screen shot. It looks like I have a different version. When I’m on that screen, I can only choose from a drop down list. No option to enter specific cabin. I haven’t tried on my laptop yet.
  24. We are like you. It’s not necessary location but specific cabin. Especially when we find one we really like, we like to re book those.
  25. Ha! He did ask for two and got it. But I think I’ll takes Ruth’s advice and have him ask for a larger portion. Never hurts to ask. ☺️
