  1. overall it is pretty nice. I find most of the ships have the same items. Good salad bar, and the WJ you can look out at the ocean if sunsets are after 7pm. Also quieter and easy to get in and out in under and hour if you have lots of places to go. BUT, breakfast is the most hectic and so go early or late. Lunch in WJ during sea days is really good.
  2. and those are two things IMHO that would make me NOT go on the Joy. Love the spa on Bliss and Escape.
  3. I would say a small to medium cross body bag with zipper compartments. or a fanny pack.
  4. depends on how important predinner drinks are to you. You can also do specialty restaurants or the Buffet which more and more folks are doing as it is good and fast and view of the ocean. Also, eating later say 8pm is not always so good if you want to be in bed at say 11pm. fuller stomach
  5. wow that is interesting. But then again it was delivered to the room and so should be good to go. Sorry to head NZ required this again.
  6. I had the same thought. I suppose some folks like the level of service but honestly I peeked into one of those, and was not overly impressed. I guess the peaceful place to gather except if a noisy bunch shows up to drink and laugh too loud. I mean for me, I just go on a cruise to see the ocean, visit the ports, and see the shows. I do not need any special attention.
  7. well since this is Celebrity threads I hear ya. But for the big ships on RCI or some on NCL, the shows do book up. However, good news is they are starting to let us reserve on line ahead of time too.
  8. aw but a lot of Europe has been rebuilt after WWII and also Europe has their ruins as well. I agree Pompei is amazing to see but I feel like Athens has too many ruins lying around even if historical.
  9. in a way I understand that you mean. I watch some You Tube guys post from N Zealand yesterday and well those fjords are not any nicer than Norway which is closer for me in east coast. And there are areas in Iceland that remind me of Yellowstone Park with the geysers. And of course, going to Utah and Arizona is very beautiful and that is why those places attract a lot of Europeans. Europe never put aside lands like we did (thanks Teddy R). I do think that visiting other countries for their quaint towns and beautiful cathedrals are worth it. Also, to taste foods and see their history. For me the British Isles, Norway and Switzerland is the most appealing. I know for me I would like to see Japan, but no thanks to China. I would like to see Greece, but no thanks to Egypt or Israel. Comes down to comfort level. But in conclusion, USA has so many places to visit and best to see as much as you can especially all the historical places on East Coast. And of course, Alaska and/or Hawaii. and all the national parks as well as Presidental libraries. toodles
  10. well that is a shame. I mean the ships behaved by anchoring out further. time will tell how this ends up.
  11. I think the solarium should be good. If you want a really good thermal Spa experience, go on the newer NCL ships especially the Escape or Bliss. Large Thallsophy (?) pool and lots of loungers
  12. oh wow I am so glad I got to go on ADV OTS last fall. That town might just regret it. They have a short season and it is the gateway to the national park
  13. omg can you imagine who fell out and where they landed. BTW I chuckle at your CC name GRUMPUS.
  14. One day Homeland security might just want to get involved for whatever reason. I for one (to change the topic slightly) do not understand why Europe is now going to in a year or so make it a requirement USA citizens to pay travel visas. I know we charge them, but not sure why now things will change for USA folks.
  15. I do not think you should have tips removed. If your budget is that tight, then find some other way but to remove tips is just unkind
  16. never once have I ever seen one that was worth it.
  17. like I keep saying, if the strongly advise it and whiners say no I don't want to, then just make it a requirement. the fact that the words are there should really mean something.
  18. best reply yet. In answer to your comment on reality of cruising once, so if folks don't cruise they might fly to a destination outside the USA and guess what they will need, ..... aw yes a passport. Hoping the Fed Govt will require it.
  19. oh yes this is one of my peeves as well. I like that Celebrity has the front section always open until 1am for pizza and ice cream. and on rainy days, allowing folks to sit in the middle of the day to play cards or games is nice. Yup RCI is very good a shutting and chasing folks away.
  20. aw but given all the fuss in bar Harbor wanting to limit 1000 passengers a day, that rule just might happen. One never knows.
  21. says you. I guarantee you if it is a requirement, folks may fuss, but they will still book. I mean if prices keep going up and folks still cruise, then just add passports to the mix.
  22. I swear it works that way when flying. If I check in at the 3 hour mark, my luggage is towards the back. But for ships, I wonder if getting on later means any issues with reservations for specialty or shows. I see lots of people rushing around or on phones to do stuff.
  23. aw okay and thanks for replying. I wish you a wonderful trip and I will check in to see comments and perhaps reply back.
