Cunards dress code is clear. So I never understand these threads. And the dress code fanatics, who don't want to understand what is in black and white. By the way Saga has a more strict dress code, no polo shirts for smart casual. Also far less places where you can go if you don't want to adopt formal code on formal nights. So I don't understand Cunards reputation as a formal line.

Just my answer to the jacket police.
-
I think when walking, standing, or dancing a Jacket is elegant, but sitting down it looses it's elegance. So when going to dinner where 95% of time is sitting if you want leave it in cabin. However, Some people can be elegant without a jacket, for some a jacket is a must to make them slightly less inelegant. The NHS amongst others says that rather than BMI the better measure of healthiness (for men) is that your waist is less than half your height , so a 6ft man should have a 34" waist. The same rule applies to elegance, if you pass the waist test, you can look elegant without a jacket. If your XXL shirt is straining at the seams , then a jacket is a must. I know not a fashionable (PC) statement to make.

It is not as comfortable as not wearing a jacket.
-
I suggest you take it up with Cunard, jackets are optional, but best left in cabin if you don't want to wear one. If the dress code said women had to wear jackets, I expect there would be even more dissenters.
-
Jackets are not required, so I completely agree is easiest and better if you don't want to wear one leave it in room. Jackets on the back of chairs are not good for the jacket and asking to be knocked off, or spilled upon. But to everyone who is nostalgic for jackets, or thinks that people who wear jackets are somehow better. Sorry its the CUNARD DRESS CODE, which is what it is, ie jackets optional.

It's very easy to explicitly say that Polo shirts are not considered acceptable, Saga do this. As Cunard hasn't done this simple thing, one must presume that Polo shirts are within the dress code. Saga Therefore has the strictest dress code I know. Some thing is either within the dress code, eg no jacket and completely acceptable, or it is outside the dress code and shouldn't be allowed. Therefore Polo shirts are acceptable. The dress code is the standard , not the minimum. It's very easy to see the difference between a ready made bow tie and proper self tied one from yards away. Artificial ones are too perfect and often centre too small

Glad you had a good time, Fred sounds better. What was the % premium of Fred vs similar cabin on P&O

We did CMV once 6 years ago, it was the only ship going from Cape Town to UK when we wanted to come home in April. This was year after we'd done same journey on Aurora. CMV not in same league as Aurora, very basic , cheap and cheerful. Enjoyed the cruise but that was because of the fellow passengers not the ship. Ambassador cruise reviews are very mixed, some, about half the people think they are fine and good value, the other half think they are very basic, poor foodand don't live up to promise

..... in Brewery comes to mind. Any well done to those who managed to book , saves me staying up to midnight
-
I could book pay for , but included coming soon
-
Weird I can still book 10 minutes ago, but glad I have all I want, before they change things again
-
I booked at 55days yesterday, so just give it a try
-
Interesting when I was having trouble yesterday afternoon phoned up , the lady knew nothing about any change in timings, thought it was still 14 days for speciality restaurants.
-
Got the majority of my bookings eventually at 10pm last night, for Epicurean and limelight and Sindhu. Added Mizu.. for Sushi this morning , very quick this morning. Glad I persevered. So have speciality bookings for every night. All at discount and no trying on board. Downloaded my orders for safety.
-
Exactly Saga's market. Saga, offer better service, food (as speciality restaurants included) and drinks. But Fred seems to have more interesting itineraries, and sails from the North occasionally.
-
Waiting for email saying, sorry, ignore this and wait for 14days before cruise.
-
Even the lady on the phone couldn't pay manually
-
Snap , Who else got the email far to early

Queen Victoria delayed docking in Cape Town
Windsurfboy replied to Host Hattie's topic in Cunard Line
Very strange as only 15 knots officially recorded yesterday in CapeTown, which is normal for this time of year. The windy season is November to February, the "Cape doctor" , due to trade winds being accelerated by thermal effect of high inland temperatures. 40 knots+ in afternoon is not unusual in January but rare April, Table Mountain normally shelters Cape town city centre from worst winds Katabatic winds are normally at night or early morning and short lived, so won't have kept a ship at harbour all day. Unfortunately our visa ran out on 9th , or would have cancelled flight to get on Victoria. Winds were petering out as normal before we left -
Mine was a bit temperamental, seems to need a very fast Internet or it has a paddy. However once working it was very efficient.
-
The real comparison is what you can get on both lines for same money. So Fred vs P&O bigger balcony cabin , plus eating in speciality restaurants each night. Fred food is better than MDR, but how does it stack up to Epicurean, Sindhu, or limelight club
-
P&O isn't the only line to have kept number of dishes constant, but now have 3 vegan/vegetarian options. Cunard and Saga are similar. Vegans, vegetarians are 15% of UK population. So either that means 1 dish in 7 . Or a separate menu, as they deserve a choice , but not at the expense of the 85% meat fish eaters

First time Saga cruiser. Chauffeur service question.
Windsurfboy replied to Fox trotter's topic in Saga Cruises
One thing always let Saga know how much luggage, if you're not sure better to give them a generous estimate. This will ensure a big enough "car" -
