  1. Disagree, Seats were very similiar to current PE, it was under 3 hours to New York. Wine was £200 a bottle stuff , at 30 years ago prices. So very enjoyable flight. It was amazing to feel the heat of the skin. Only Pity you can't hear sonic boom from on board.
  2. I urge everyone to read CAA rules about downgrading https://www.caa.co.uk/passengers/resolving-travel-problems/delays-and-cancellations/downgrading/
  3. It's more about going to ship. Arriving when all food is closed that I don't fancy.
  4. How long you stop for depends on pick up time. In our case 5 hr journey . Start at 8am get there at 1pm , happy for just a loo stop. Pick up a 10am get there at after 3pm, expect to stop for lunch
  5. Unfortunately the law regarding flights does not treat downgrading as a cancellation as you are still getting from A to B. It only allows for substantial compensation. The only arguement is whether no PE is a major change. Therefore entitled to all money back . What are rules if P&O downgrade from say balcony to inside are you entitled to cancel. If so use this as analogy.
  6. Even though flight is bought as a package it is still covered by Eu261 and the CAA flight cancellation, delay and downgrading rules. Thus for example they tell you the flight is cancelled , but there is a scheduled flight, that would get you there on time , you are entitled to demand to be put on it, or pay for it and get money back. No question. Similiary the CAA rule that says you get 75% of fare as compensation overrides p&O conditions. Law trumps P&O t&cs. A court would take fare to be equal to a scheduled PE fare if P&O tried to pretend it was free and therefore zero value.
  7. The CAA rule is 75% of the full fare paid , for each leg with no PE , which is more than the PE premium.
  8. If you've booked premium economy and there is none, need to read CAA rule on downgrading. You are legally entitled to a refund of 75% of fare.
  9. During meal service don't recline seat. But after meal , if you weren't meant to recline seat then they should be non reclineable . Most short haul seats are now fixed. Long haul answer turn left.
  10. Sorry forgot about suites getting free laundry. We are going for a month but will pack light and use laundry. No dry cleaning though certainly not free. The butler service is as it used to be on Cunard and P&O, but no special reception party for suites . Outside of your suite everyone on Saga gets exactly equal treatment , a high level of equal. This is part of appeal of Saga.
  11. I will try. Two times are acceptable for a nice journey. Leave at 10 am stop midway for a light lunch, but that depends on others being agreeable to this. Or leave at 8 to 8.30 with a comfort break , late lunch on ship. Wait and see what Saga propose.
  12. We are 210 miles away far end Cornwall, all A roads not motorway, so 5hrs plus with comfort stop. So our 10 am got us there at just after 3pm. Seems a bit later than arrival times stated here. Will push for a civilised 8 to 9am.
  13. We had a midships suite, didn't eat in suite , as table a bit small. So only used Butler for booking Speciality restaurants, 100% success whenever we wanted. Also for replacing mini bar and snacks, let him know what we liked at beginning of cruise, then always topped up without asking. Service seemed on a par with Cunard, but we are not heavy users of the butler on either line.
  14. Oops looks like my 10amm for 5hrs away a bit of aberation will check my November Caribbean time . Information on times vs distance useful
  15. We live 5 hours away and were picked up at 10am
  16. The good news is whatever time they choose it's their responsibility to get you to ship on time
  17. The trick is try and keep to same cabin every cruise.
  18. Be annoyed if it blocks WhatsApp messaging, understand no phone or video calls. Suppose resort to email We are going to Caribbean so roaming expensive.
  19. We are on same cruise, my plan is mainly US dollars and Euros for Maderia and Azores. Cash is needed for taxis , but elsewhere mainly credit card.
  20. We always had plenty space between tables on Saga in the speciality restaurants which we used about every 3rd day. Our fixed table in MDR was about a foot or more from next table, banquette seating enabling people to get in and out . A lot of 2s on Saga are banquette.
  21. All I can say is I've an Arvia suite booked , and thanks to people on here , will stay up and hope to book speciality restaurants and entertainment for every night , fingers crossed! in advance as soon as it opens. If it all works out will be a great cruise and great value. If can't get speciality restaurants booked then not so great. Just booked a 30 day Carribean on Saga suite this afternoon, on impulse , much more expensive , but don't have to worry about availability 0f restaurants and shows. I'm looking forward to both. It's not an either or.
  22. I think Saga is better than Queens Grill on Cunard
  23. Saga can offer all of these but in it's own but different way to P&O. Its people's own money if they like what Saga offer, it's their choice. Clearly everyone's definition of value for money differs. So you shouldn't impose one's own views on others. Some say a suite on P&O is a waste when an inside cabin gets you on the same cruise. Some wonder why turn left on a plane when an seat at the back gets you there just as quick. Whether Saga cruise are expensive, value for money, or cheap is up to everyone to decide. Exactly the same can be asked of P&O or any cruise line. This 5 star vs Travelodge is an argument for arguments sake. Bound to be divisive. Anyway, I'm sitting in BA first lounge, of to the Royal Palm in Mauritius, which makes our Saga suite in November look cheap. But that's not to denigrate Saga or P&O, both of which I've got cruises booked on. Like everyone has said how we all choose to spend our money is no-one elses business.
