  1. As the cruise is showing sold out , do you think upgrades are possible
  2. What is wrong with opening two tabs on your computer, making two bookings for adjoining cabins and completeting them simultaneously . However why not use Phone or friendly TA
  3. I've plenty of old wet suits to spare.
  4. Oops , Valet on holiday , having to press my own clothes ready to pack in a few days.
  5. Have to have a real book in the sun , otherwise happy with electronic
  6. Agree but does it matter, practicality we very rarely have even 4 courses and who needs big portions when you have 3 meals a day plus afternoon tea and ice cream by pool . Just wait till they have to put calories on menu. is there time for 5 courses if they want 2 sittings, even in freedom want to use table twice.
  7. Do you have a copy of the original agreement. Anything in small print.
  8. From what David05 and Nosapphire have said glad I did it myself. However I hope everyone is either computer literate or has someone to help them. Perhaps Saga should have said if you need help and have no-one to help you please let us know. Rather than do it or you can't come on cruise which is how I read the below. Each guest will need a copy of their ESTA ready to show our staff at check-in as this is a mandatory condition of travel for this cruise and you will not be able to board without one. Should you have any questions about the ESTA or completing it, please refer to the FAQ section of the application website which can be found at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/faq.
  9. I think the Saga description of exactly the same code is unambiguous, by explicitly saying no polo shirts "A shirt with a collar (not a polo shirt) and trousers." Yes it does allow chinos, but so does Cunard, Chinos can be smart. Although it would allow for a short sleeved shirt, but aircon would deter that. Anyone brave enough to freeze to make a statement isn't to be messed with.
  10. Things are only as complicated as you make them. I know my wife wouldn't let me wear an untucked shirt at night. Something to be worn with shorts in the day. Untucked shirts even with long trousers are a fashion statement by the young and slim and can look very elegant. Or unfortunately an admission that it won't fit, which is something that definitely should be hidden under a jacket.
  11. You are perfectly entitled to wear formal gear every night you choose, just as anyone else is entitled to wear just a well tailored dress shirt and trousers on smart nights. As an keen dresser I hope when you wear formal you are amongst the 10% who tie their own bow tie , rather than a ready made. I am always surprised after all the fuss that is made about dressing up on Cunard formal nights , that the vast majority, 90% of men don't wear proper bow ties. A self tied one adds to the character.
  12. Cunard dress code "Smart attire simply means a dress shirt and trousers". simple
  13. That is not the Cunard dress code. Advocating ones own dress code is what causes confusion. Cunards dress code for non formal nights is simple. A dress shirt , that is collared long sleeved shirt therefore no polo shirts, and trousers, no jeans . It is very simple not a minefield . No need for dictionary or Google, just read Cunard definition.
  14. No need to Google it just read the Cunard web site. For men it's a dress shirt, ie a collared long sleeved shirt and trousers , no jeans Can't get any simpler. Some may say it too casual, but that is a different question
  15. I think it's very simple, a proper shirt ie with collar but not polo shirt and a pair of trousers but not jeans or cargo pants.
  16. Got email yesterday a bit of a surprise being told we needed ESTA, however thought I'd do mine straight away before I forgot. A bit of a repetitive process, took about 20 minutes for me , 15 minutes second time for my wife . I used tablet, might be a bit longer if uploading passport on PC. Got it back in 3 hours , printed out. I thought Saga's excuse for asking us to do it ourselves "an ESTA last's 2 years and you may well be going to USA again in this period " was a bit feeble. When the real reason was it will save us $21 a head and also save a lot of work if you do it.
  17. Follow the dress code, but there should be no pressure to wear a jacket unless your husband likes to wear one, even if 99% of others do. As for Hawian shirt the only question I would raise would it look like he can't be bothered to change. Also dress shirt I think translates as long sleeved, most Hawian shirts are short sleeved.
  18. Given that the average life expectancy in UK is 83 , and higher the more comfortably off you are , eg house owners it will be nearer 90. Then people inheriting house are in their sixties. Sorry all this money isn't generating a new demographic of young cruisers.
  19. Clearly P&O see future in big ships after spending two billion on them. They are in the process of abandoning the more affluent older cruiser. The ships offering have changed. P&O has decided on a policy of a cheap entry price and make the profit on extras - drink packages and speciality restaurants etc.. The standard of MDR food has thus fallen across the board. You get what you pay for. The smaller ships don't have the speciality restaurants to enable you to dine around. So those that like their atmosphere dont have the food and service they were used to. Traditional cruisers , want better MDR food and don't mind paying for it upfront. So by concentrating on the younger set who seem to be more influenced by low entry price they have made a mistake. For example The big ships have got cabin mix wrong If something sells out on launch there are not enough of them. - ie suites on big ships. Whilst rest of cabins are more than half empty even a year after .
  20. Looks like another company that doesn't understand economics. Exactly wrong time to abandon oldies. Interest rates soar and will never go back to the 1% of the last 15 years that was an aberration Families with mortgages disposable incomes will be drastically squeezed. Those oldies with substantial savings are seeing income rising. It's not technology that will put affluent oldies off , most are tech savvy, it's all the other things mentioned above . Hence move to Saga even though they are far more expensive
  21. Theoretically he could wear a Hawian shirt with a Hawian bow tie and cummerband (contrasting so we could see it) on formal night. Would look stunning with a white jacket. It would be within dress code. My view is always does the person look as if they have made an effort. If so go for it.
  22. Fingers crossed. They should I hope have one cheese I like , the isle of Wight blue. It's on room service menu. Asked about it in April but got no real response, never appeared. As QG was full when we booked and were in PG , didn't know if the if it's on the ship they will get if for you rule applied. However as back to QG this time will be insistent.
  23. 99.9% of shareholders will approve , according to .......
  24. Glad to hear cheese has improved on our April cruise it was abysmal, I put that down to last leg of world cruise. They said supplies had beèn flown into Capetown, but I doubt it. But no soft cheese except brie , which was too young or most likely kept to cold over long cruise to let it mature. Hopefully sailing out of Southampton should be back to normal standard.
