  1. I guess if you are trundling cases along from the MRT to the Cruise centre it would not be pleasant. Knowing my luck I would probably do a wheel bearing in or throw a wheel on my case. Bit too far to get RACQ out and I am certainly not going to take a tool kit with me or spare parts. Looks like I will have to use a Maxi taxi as I don't think a normal cab would be able to take all our luggage.
  2. This is a bit off topic and I have really appreciated all the post on here but I wondered if any one has gone on the MRT to Marina bay south pier MRT and walked on the under cover path to the Cruise Centre ( 10 min ) Obviously the weather would play a big part in doing this. According to the web site it cost $3 from Orchard MRT.
  3. No hate any shops high or low 😁 but got to keep the wife and daughter happy they will love it. I will stay in the hotel with my feet up and let them loose, as long as they bring food back 😂
  4. Presently looking at the Voco Orchard rd. Looks nice reviews are good. Used to be the Hilton. States it has refurbished rooms. 5 minutes from MRT and amongst all the shopping ( not sure thats a good thing,I hate shopping ) but I am sure the wife & daughter would love it. 😁
  5. Cant thank you all enough for your post, so much good information and plenty for me to start researching. I do enjoy a lead up to a cruise even if it is a fair way off. This forum is so helpful. Cheers John.
  6. Thanks Guys, all a great help. Has anyone stayed at the Mercure on Stevens owned by Accor if so I would be interested to know what that is like. Cost seems very reasonable but that makes me wonder. I will have a look at the V Lavender hotel, thanks.
  7. Hi guys, It will be our first time in Singapore towards the end of the year and just wondered if you guys that have been to Singapore could advise booking accommodation well in advance or not. Do not want to leave it too late when all accomodation is fully booked.Still trying to find a hotel that is nice to stay at but at a reasonable cost. If and when I find one is it worth booking 9/10 months in advance, it would have to be with free cancelation in case of unforeseen circumstances. Cheers John
  8. Yes its no fun thats for sure. We are fortunate that we now have power and have got the essentials in our fridge / freezers. Still not game to buy bulk. Mount Tamborine is a wreck at the moment. It is going to be a long time time before things get back to normal for them.
  9. Yes I do believe that is correct. Not a good situation.🫤
  10. Thanks Les, That was terrible for your sister & brother. It was bad enough for us let alone having visitors. Only bought a few essentials as we need confidence that the power is going to stay on. The wife said the supermarket shelves were fairly bare. The disaster fund pay out for the the food that was perished will be a big help, it does not cover for what we lost but I am grateful for what we got. You having no power for 2 weeks during the bushfire was a long time we found 6 days was bad enough. We feel lucky though after seeing the houses on Mount Tamborine that got smashed and I am not sure if they have power yet as it is going to take a long time to renew all the power equipment. They were talking about getting them on generators. Cheers John.
  11. Must be a wife thing, mine does the same. Seen many husbands / partners walking along scanning the isles. 😁
  12. Yes I read that. It is so disappointing. Fortunately they are in the minority as most people will rally around to help. We had offers from people with power to go to their house for a meal and sit in the aircon. Although they offered us to take our 2 dogs as well we felt inclined to decline.
  13. Thanks Jean, It was not very nice especially when you are in your 80s. We panicked when all the power went off and it was a good job we did not know how long for.It is amazing how you adapt. The worst part is we lost all communication no internet and no phone signal only sos so we had no idea what was happening.Shows how reliant we are on the electricity. We had nothing to cook on ( electric cooker ) and we ended up eating unhealthy with fast foods. Some people had generators and I did think about buying one to keep the fridge /freezers going but my mind kept saying you have lived here for ten years and the power has only been off once for 2 hrs, as soon as you buy it the power will be back on.😊
  14. Yes I have but somehow they always managed to find me.🤭
  15. Yep, from Christmas day until new years day without power, All food in the fridge /freezers perished including 3 kg prawns a big leg of Ham & all the bulk dogs food in a chest freezer. 😭 The housing estate has many trees broken in half and uprooted and is going to take a big clean up. We are still better off than the people on Mount Tamborine who copped it worse. The area is now dealing with floods from the torrential rain ( now where did I put my wet suit ) and just to top it off we had a heat wave all that time with no air conditioner, thank you very much Father Christmas. 😂
  16. You have to feel sorry for people these days. The rising cost of everything now is probably making it hard for people to replace their balls when they get older hence all the the tea leaves.🤭
  17. Brilliant thank you. That information is a big help to me and I am sure will be very useful to anybody else contemplating booking a ConXion shuttle. I would think they would have somebody on site co-ordinating there shuttle buses. I have learnt self disembarking does not always guarantee you getting off early. Spent ages trying to get off a couple of cruises where the line ended up all round the dining areas and stairways. To this day I still do not know why. 👍
  18. Thanks, I gathered that but can you book on another later bus. Will they accommodate you by automatically getting you on another if spare seats available. Have any of you guys actually missed a booking on ConXion if so what was the outcome.
  19. Anybody know what happens if you book a time with ConXion and are late disembarking and miss your time slot ?
  20. Gee you guys are good at knowing where theses are. I have only got a couple in the past. Mind you I have a good job remembering where I am now.😂
  21. Thank you libby. Yes very content with our decision. Would like to thank all for their thoughts as always very helpful. 🙂
  22. Our first time on the Luminosa but reviews do favour the balcony cabins. I just feel that we cant justify the $794 for a bit of extra room. Thank you.
