  1. I know - I so miss the old QSine. I did La Petit once when I was lucky enough to score a Royal Suite because speciatlies are included and it was ok, but definitely a one and done for me! I used to eat at Qsine at least once per cruise before they did away with it.
  2. It would be great to hear how many other Blue Chip cruisers feel the same way. Celebrity claims they were asked to do this by their casino players. Obviously Blue Chip cruisers are the most loyal casino players. Would love to hear if anyone who is a higher level Blue Chip cruiser had ever expressed that desire to Celebrity?
  3. Exactly. Lots of people post comments about the wonderful upgrades, as well as move up wins, they got last year or in 2021. Those were very, very different times. No one should get their hopes up that those kind of wins will continue happening now that ships are sailing at or near capacity (and apparently in some case, even over capacity!). Of course Move-up bids can still work, and maybe even near minimum for lower level cabins, but in the majority of cases there will be no free upgrades and moving up to a higher grade cabin (AQ, CC or above) will require a lot more than minimum on most sailings.
  4. Following. There have been a number of posts about this type of thing but I confess I get very confused with the instructions. If the answer is yes, I hope someone can be very specific about how to do it!
  5. Celebrity does have a chat feature that shows up sometimes but is not always there
  6. They'll keep upping prices until they reach a tipping point where people stop buying. I hope it comes sooner rather than later!!
  7. We have a couple of Chase cards that offer a certain amount of travel insurance. Don't recall the specifics. One is the United Club Card (which costs quite a bit, but we travel often so make good use of the United Club and free baggage), and sorry, I don't recall the other but it is a Chase card.
  8. Are there any car rental companies near the port, or who will deliver to the port? We are in town until 11:00 pm so thinking renting a car for the day would be a nice idea. But I am not seeing any close by. Does anyone have any experience renting a car in San Diego?
  9. We recently sent an email to the Captains Club email address - and got a response that it will take them 30 days to get back to us! Just be forewarned. Despite the aggravation of waiting on hold, if this is important you may want to call instead.
  10. Technically you are not allowed to switch once assigned. Some have reported being able to do so by calling, but you can't count on it.
  11. That's not the point of the question. Some people prefer to sail on more adult cruises. Kids are kids and even well-behaved ones result in a different vibe on the ship. You can't expect them to act like mini-adults, even if they are behaving well. I know, some adults cause more issues than any kids. Again, not the point. And I am not anti-kid. I have three, and I sailed with them as youngsters as well.
  12. I can tell you one reason - they can't fill the ships. Cruised on the LA/Mexico cruise recently and they were giving away tons of free cabins through Blue Chip. On my upcoming two coastal cruises the lower category cabins were less than $50pp per night. Suites of course were full and expensive :(. I don't get it - those cruises are some of my favorites. But I guess people who fly to the US for warmth think of sailing out of Florida first, and California and nearby folks apparently are not all that interested. I guess because they don't have to drive far to experience the ports, or similar ports.
  13. Even with my poor sea legs, I've sailed more than 75 times! I always prefer mid-ship but will pick any location if need be. A lot depends on lsailing ocation as, as you know being experienced, different locations trend towards different sea conditions, as does time of year Also, if I have a lot of sea days I definitely prefer mid-ship so I don't have to worry about it. If there are a lot of days in port it limits the chances of lots of time spent rockin and rollin.
  14. My understanding is that you stick with the night's menu, unless you have dietary restrictions in which case you need to notify them ahead of time
  15. I vote for Equinox for several reasons. First, she is my favorite Celebrity ship! They are also close enough in size and design that I would go for one extra day. I personally couldn't care less about either the Lawn Club Grill or the glass blowing so that is a wash for me. If in Aqua Class, be aware that there are more AQ cabins on Reflection but the Blu dining room is the same size so it feels more crowded than the one on Equinox. But I would be happy on either. In fact I am sailing Reflection in November and Equinox in January!
  16. It's a scientific fact that by moving away from the center of the ship you will feel more motion, if there is motion to be felt at the time. Many people, including myself, feel that the motion at the front of the ship is more noticeable and bothersome than that at the aft of the ship. That said, I am susceptible to motion sickness and have sailed very far upfront (not quite that far) and was able to handle any rough seas with proper medication and preventive measures.
  17. I keep reading this from you and others on this thread but have yet to find it. I guess I need to look harder. But FYI, not all TA group rates include the drinks, wi-fi, tips, etc.. I recently booked a group rate with a TA and while the cabin price was less it definitely did NOT include those things, nor did it include a refundable deposit. As Zenith I already get premium liquor and wi-fi so that is not a deal breaker for me but not all TA group rates include everything mentioned.
  18. Even though at times the ship sails close to the coast I have never found the hours to be an issue. Once the ship sails the casino opens soon thereafter. They must have some agreements different than the standard ones of how many miles they need to be offshore.
  19. The dress code is the same on any cruise. That said, I have found people on Alaska cruises definitely tend to dress more casually than on others. In the MDR it was not uncommon to see people coming to dinner in jeans, hoodies, and hiking shoes (I'm not recommending - just stating an observation). Chic nights as on all cruises are a little dressier, but again more casual than most. I don't even bother to bring a dress on those cruises anymore, although for the record I always will follow the dress code
  20. I am both shocked and dismayed that Celebrity would even consider this, much less implement it and believe it is a good idea. The cruise line I've loved for many, many years is changing in unwelcome ways. But it's not just about me. I understand they need to continue to bring in new customers as us old folks eventually can't cruise anymore. But a key word is eventually. Many of us loyalists have 20+ years or more of cruising ability yet to come and we had hoped to do so on Celebrity. Three and four night cruises are not just for a younger crowd, they are for a much, much younger crowd. What's the logic in that??? If anything, aim for the 40-50 year old crowd whose kids are grown or off to college and bring them into the mix for long-term survival. Having experienced a 5 night "Animal House" cruise during spring break several years ago with 700 college students onboard, trust me, Celebrity, this is not the demographic you want to attract, but I fear this change will do that.
  21. Hope all is well and not much damage happened. That would be scary. Reminds me of one cruise of ours years ago on Celebrity. All of a sudden our ship leaned over to the side significantly - lots of damage to glasses and dishware crashing to the floor. As it turns out there was a boat that shot across right in front of our ship and the Captain had to do a very rapid turn to avoid hitting it. My adolescent son was sleeping in the cabin and almost fell off the bed.
  22. Actually I do have some arthritis in one hand. Not sure when you sailed, but maybe you got one of the original cans. The current ones are easier to open than the ones they originally had. Try bringing a rubber jar opener - it helps me a lot (although I usually don't need it anymore on the newer versions)
  23. If that's true, that's frustrating and deceptive IMHO. The minimum bid should be the minimum amount they will accept - at least in my perfect world. I've bid multiple times, mostly from Aqua Class trying to get a suite. Didn't bid minimum, but didn't go to 70 or 80% either. Am also Zenith (they give a token amount extra to us - I think it is 5%, which is why I am mentioning it). Have never won. I think besides capacity in general, the type of cabin matters as well. Suites almost always sell out, so on most cruises they are hard (albeit not impossible) to win bids for. Easier to win bids from inside or OV to a balcony of some type. On my upcoming cruise there was a fabulous price on insides and OV's. They are fully booked. AQ and CC have lots of openings. I'm sure move-ups will fill a lot of those categories when all is said and done. I also think if someone is doing analysis, they really need to disregard the first year or so after restart. Ships were at much lower capacity so I don't think it's comparing apples to apples to look at what happened then versus now, when many cruises are all but sold out. So many people reporting how lucky they were to get this higher level cabin and that, may find that it's an anomaly that will likely never happen again.
  24. I thought the water tasted better as well. It also seemed easier to open - I didn't cut my hand like I have on the original cans.
