  1. well  if the price was 3263 when you booked, thats the price you should be paying. i booked a 2 bedroom suite on 12/11//2020 sailing on the awn. the price was $6400 per then went down to $5100 per so they gave me the reduced price

WOW!!! Does anyone even remember what the original post and question was. A simple question turns into this. LMAO!!!

yeah, should she leave out of port canaveral or new orleans.

and your're  right, the rest of these post have gone way, way, way off topic. but on the other hand, bigotry is nothing to laugh your ass off about !

  3. sorry honey, the term "poor whit trash" always has had a distinct meaning and i'm sure you knew exactly what you were saying when you used it in that context. they couldnt be too poor since they were on the same cruise ship as you.  let  it go already, the more you post the less credible you sound.. "methinks thelady doth protest to much"

     Poor White Trash?  Seriously?

WOW! my wife, grandson and myself left out of new orleans a few years back on the ncl spirit. we stayed at harrah's hotel for a few days prior to sailing and a day after. we could walk to riverfront, i got up in the morning went over and bought begneits ( im sure that's misspelled) we had a suite onthe ship, my grandson who was about 14 at the time had a great time, and i didnt have any problems at all. we live in l.a. but what problems could you possibly have with people from arkansas? maybe your expectations are a little high, or you should look in a mirror (just saying)

Totally, right? Strange mix. I have never done a TA before. The Med cruise is SOOOO packed. I've done those before and they are incredibly exhausting.

there may not be many sea days, but you dont need to take an excursion at every port. sometimes its nice to get off the ship and just wander around taking pictures at your leisure. while its not possible in rome or florence, im not sure about malta, cypress or rhodes.  definately you want to see the ruins at ephesus in kusadasi turkey

Agreed! The price on the Getaway is a lot cheaper...plus on the Dawn, with all those ports, I'd be spending a lot on excurcions. I can see the total cost being at least $1,000 more just on spending.

well you can save money by renting cabs instead of the excursions from ncl. also if you meet people on board see if they are imterested in sharing cabs with you. last time i cruised to rome, i got a cab for $100 for 4 people. he took us where i wanted to go, and back to the ship in plenty of time.

  7. been on the getaway twice, and we love this ship. that being said, however, the dawn 12/1/2020 itinerary seems much more interesting.  we're booked on that cruise. looking forward to seeing istanbul and israel.  also staying in civitavecchia before the cruise andin rome after.

by the way flights from rome to the u.s. on the 19th seem very limited timewise.

I research like crazy, so we can be "spontaneous".  so I look up any special events or things to do in whatever port we start from (we arrive at least the day before), so i have a list of things that might interest us and then we can decide what we want to do.  I research the airports (if I am unfamiliar with them).  I start tracking "our" flights arrival and departures for about a month before our actual flight.  See what gate we fly into (usually the same 2 or 3 gates), what gate our connecting flight (if we have one) flies out of.  Look at the terminal maps, figure out how to collect our luggage, catch transportation to hotel, what restaurants are around hotel, what is in walking distance...how are we going to get to the port for embarkation...I try to commit this stuff to memory, so we can travel without...getting lost.  Yes, we have smart phones, but my husband lacks patience for such things, or for asking directions. as our getting lost in london attested to, when our phones died, and it was dark, and if he had waited the 2 minutes (if that) that I needed before my phone died to figure out where we were and where we needed to be, we would have been at the hotel 5 minutes later vs. the 45 minute detour he led us on...just saying..

ok - now i really need to get back to work...

youre about as anal as i am

Sorry, your analysis is not accurate.

I've cruised 4-5 times per year for the last three or four years. They regularly price real high in advance and then cabin dump anywhere from 14 days until sailing. They rarely sell out there ships prior to 14 days from departure.  I only sail NCL when they dump cabins and have had no issues with getting last minute cabins at decent locations to a variety of destinations. There are other CC members that have the same experience. You have to carefully understand NCL's pricing models and use them to your advantage to get the last minute deals. 11 day cruises at $499. 7 day cruises at $299, 15 day cruises for $499. The list could go on and on. The pricing method you described above is not the model I use.

I only sail NCL because it is the only line that dumps cabins. They have made cruising extremely affordable for last minute cruisers. They can't be beat for last minute pricing, (at lease based on history).  For early bookers, not so affordable.

well, if you wait until the last few weeks, arent you limiting  yourself to the choice of cabins and locations?  im not a snob, but even if  the cost for an indoor cabin was $100 i wouldnt book it, its like spending a week in an walk in closet. obviously some people dont mind but id rather book early and get what i want

  10. while i can truly sympathize with your plight, dont you think this is getting a little off topic? this thread is supposed to be about what we would miss cruising, and unfortunately not your fear of escalators.

besides, what can be so hard about riding up or down on an escalator. you put your feet on the first step, hold onto the handrail, stand still and go up or down. at the end you put one foot off then the other and voila! you have taken the escalator.

  11. specifically to michael (who responded to me). of course you are correct, not all people sailing have access to the haven or a suite. while i am not wallowing in dollars, a few years back with the promos ncl was offering for free, it cost wasnt much higher than a mini suite so we booked a penthouse suite on the getaway, first off, we absolutely loved that ship, and 2nd in's hard to downshift once youve been in a suite with theextra goodies. it's even worse once youve booked a haven

now, my wife (the sweet and lovely diva that she is) wont even discuss sailing unless i book a suite. (although i must admit im slightly the diva now myself).

  12. im not going to be the cheerleader for ncl, but i have been cruising with them exclusively since 2010 when i was offered a free cruise thru cesars entertainment. while the freebie was an inside cabin, my wife and i have always upgraded.

ive checked other cruise lines, and after 10 years i have determined that regardless of all other factors, in terms of price, ports, days of the cruise and all amenities, ncl still gives you the most bang for your buck.  per prior note, i did look up msc yacht club, and although the amenities are similar, the choices of ports and times i want to sail dont work for me.

at the end of the day, whatever problems have arisen on our cruises (and there have been about 15 since 2010 all on ncl) they were all little annoyances that could  be overlooked.

if ncl stays afloat (no pun intended) i will continue to book with them. i will concede, however, that we always book a suite or a haven whenever possible.  once youve been in the haven or a suite its hard to downshift to anything lower and i dont man that to be snobbish in anyway

  13. basically you are correct, but its hard to beat (1) freestyle dining,(2) 24 hour on call butler (3) priority boarding (4) concierge service.

while there is not much a concierge can do for me on board,  (its not like i need him to get me tickets to a broadway show), the ability of the concierge to get me disembarked and to my luggage within 10-15 minutes while everyone else is clogging the halls and stairways waiting to get off the ship is to me well worth the price of admission

  14. allow me to elaborate further (1) i am an avid photographer (2) i usually book a cabin on the port side of the ship. i find that when the ship docs, that's when you can see the harbor. i have my camera and a trusty telephoto lens and start shooting away (3) with camera in hand, i await patiently on my balcony as the sun sets, and therefore i am able to take some amazing shots of the sun setting into the sea. They look even better blown up to an 8x10.

its hard to describe unless you cansee it for yourself, but you get this great big orange ball surrounded by clouds, sinking slowly into the sea.if that doesnt make you miss crusing, i dont know what else will. the cold beer or glass of champagne doesnt hurt either
