  1. norwegian emphasizes freestyle cruising. there are NO formal nights. If you want to bring a tux, suit or cocktail dress no one will stop you, but i assure you, you will look horribly out of place. Im 72, have been cruising with ncl for 10 years, and , i have no regrets not dragging along a suit. Im on vacation, its jeans, tennies, and t's. Le Bistro insists that men wear long sleeve or collared shirts, consequently i avoid that restaurant, even though we get a free meal. If you really feel strongly about the "good old days " of cruising, I suggest norwegian is not t he line for you

Someone told me to buy a soda you need to buy a soda package or a drink package that I could not buy them as single ones is that true?

no,  you can buys cans of pepsi products sold separately. its about $2.00 per can. if you drink a lot of soda, it'sprobably cheaper tobuy the package,

  3. hate to be the bearer of bad news. we were on the star 3 years ago,and they had the same mechanical problems. we are taking the march 14th cruise, and as i understand it, 2 of the ports have been cancelled as the same problems still exist. since one of theports was grand stirrup caye, i'mnot overly upset, but we now have a bunch of sea days

  4. haven and suites are 17.95 perperson per day, anything less is 14.95 per person per dya. this will be shown as a charge on your final bill. that being said, i usually give my cabin steward $20 at the beginning of the cruise, $20 at the half, and $20 at the end. usually give the butler $100, and the concierge $50. We also usually leave $5-10 dollar tips to whoever waits on us, and a couple of dollars to the bartender. these are not required, as the tips are incorporated into your bill. however if you get the same people over and over they do appreciate the extra money, and you get a little better service

  5. there is no guarantee that your haven suite will be ready, but once you are checked in the concierge will take you to the haven restaurant for a nice comfortable lunch. eat, relax, have a glass of wine, andby around 1:30 your room should be ready.

Fair warning: if you have never stayed in a haven suite with all its extra goodies, you may never book a lower category cabin again. its surprising how quickly one can get spoiled with the haven amenities

  6. things to consider: if you arrive in rome at 10:30, figure at last half hour to 45 minutes to get your luggage. it takes about an hour plus to get from rome airport to the port. ncl insists you be on the ship not later than 2 hrs before sailing. which means 3:00 it might be cutting it close if there is a problem, but i would go with option 1. also you can call ncl and make arrangements to be picked up at rome airport on one of their shuttles. i believe it's $60 per person. hope this helped . bon voyage!

  7. im sorry, imgoing completely in the opposite direction, ive lived in los angeles for 50years and 17 degrees is way out of my comfort zone. we had one drink, and got out as quickly as possible, i havent been that cold in over 50 years, and i doubt i would do it again. i agree its a very interesting experience , but never again

  8. no, i think ncl prices are pretty competitive if not lower then some other lines. check celebrity and you'll find they are much higher. suites on princess cruise lines and rcl are actually smaller and dont give you a butler. we've taken over 15 ncl cruises, and there are many things i dont like that they do, but pricing isnt one of them

  9. actually neither cagneys nor moderno care as long as you look presentable. I usually wear only jeans and a polo shirt with tennis shoes, and have never been denied a seat in either since i started cruising with ncl in 2010. word to the wise, if you've never been to a moderno style restaurant, make absolutely sure you come "HUNGRY"

  10. i havent been to grand stirrup cay in years, but as i recall, the tender boats come in quite often, i think we spent about 2 hrs on their beach then took the tender back. personally, i'd prefer to stay on the ship, last time i was there, i was underwhelmed to say the least. i know its been highly upgraded, but i would personally not feel i missed anything not going ashore. ( the opinions expressed herein are strictly my own)
