    I just did a thing....

NCL Joy sailing Sept 10 from Quebec City to Saguenay River, Charlottetown Prince Edward, Sydney Cape Brenton Island and Halifax.  Returning to NYC.

Pretty far out booking, for me at least.  But, found an excellent fare and jumped on it.

This sounds like a wonderful itinerary!

Dealing with stressful work stuff and just feeling down in general since the first of the year.

Our next trip is to Washington, DC in a couple of weeks during Andrew’s spring break. I really wish it was another cruise, but it’s important to show Andrew the capital city. It’s NOT going to be relaxing at ALL, and scheduling is such a challenge now that most of the sights require a timed-entry ticket. But I’m finally starting to feel a little excited about it. Hoping to see some cherry blossoms this time since the festival begins the week afterward.

This is nice that you are doing this. As an adult I think "no thanks" on dealing with the DC stuff. But when I was a kid I went on a Girl Scout trip there (my mom was the leader) and I still remember and think about it. It is very cool. For kids anyway...!

I ended up at urgent care last night after work. I just couldn’t keep going, I’m exhausted and done. They took me back and examined me and determined it’s not a sinus infection, but pneumonia. 😬 I’ve got a bag full of meds to take and am spending today just recouping. It felt good last night to FINALLY get some sleep with the meds they gave me to help with my cough. I’m hoping to rebound and be ready for my cruise with mom in 2 weeks!

Oh that stinks! I hope you feel better soon!!!

last night as we hit the halfway post to 90…. Local joint down the street in an old historic house. They do a seasonal menu and we’re still on winter, which is my fave..

Looks incredible! Regarding being at the halfway post of 90--it is all relative. Now I get to think of myself as at the halfway post to 140! Darn you anyway! :-0 :-0

Just because that’s a negative test doesn’t mean you don’t have it.  Midway through our Celebration cruise last June, I started with a sore throat that morphed into feeling just horrendous with a cough.  I went to the medical center, and was tested for the flu, strep and COVID.  All came back negative.  Two days later, still felt terrible after flying home.  I tested myself again and was positive for COVID.  Even after 3 days of taking Paxlovid, I was still positive.

I later learned that one can test negative for a day or two even though you have it.   That was certainly the case for me.   Started feeling poorly on a Wednesday but didn’t test positive until Sunday.

Truth. Mr. Greenpea was sick for 4 days before it got to me.

So my sister just called. Last night, as we were driving home from the concert, she said “I can’t taste or smell anything”… 😐 well you all know how this story goes. I just tested since I had the migraine yesterday due to sinus.., still (you know what) free since ‘83. At what point do I get offended that I’ve never had it.

Don't be offended. Be grateful! It was very unpleasant. Stay healthy, girl!

  7. My big news (yeah, that's a relative phrase I know) is I renamed my car. I just was unable to remember the name sometimes, which cracks me up but it is true! And he-who-needed-a-name never did really like it. I'm convinced. It was just a vibe, but still.

So I renamed hime Mikey. Formal name is Michael--who is the Patron Saint of protection, and the Head Guardian Angel. He can help overcome any danger and give me fortitude and the ability to stay strong in times of conflict. No, I'm not Catholic. I probably sound like I am though!  PLUS Mikey was my first childhood dog--a wonderful German Shepherd who protected me. I carry his tags in my wallet and even though i was just a tyke I remember him well and loved him so much. So... Mikey is a perfect name. And one I will NOT forget!

"News" #2, I just spent all afternoon making my red sauce with vegetables--something I used to do every couple months. Now we have lots for the freezer. Yum

The food arrived along with another round of drinks, and I was feeling pretty good around this point. Maybe a little too good. We finished up before taking some pictures with Bill the bartender, and ended up taking a couple of "roadie's", not that I needed anymore, but these will be the very last margaritas from Bill ever, so... Probably not the greatest idea ever, as I ended up driving us back to his house in the Range Rover. Fortunately without incident, and pretty soon I was on my way home. When I got here, that's where things begin to get blurry. I remember sitting in my recliner like usual. The TV was on, but I don't remember watching anything, or what was on.

Next thing I knew it was 10:30, which is an hour after my usual bedtime. Whatever happened between when I got home and then is a mystery. At some point in the middle of the night I advanced the alarm forward 45 minutes so I could get as much sleep as possible. I REALLY didn't want to go to work today, but it's not my style to call out of work unless I am actually sick. The work day today seemed like two entire days. We had a couple of customers who lingered in the store for HOURS, and I wasn't feeling good anyway. I guess that's my payback for the heavy drinking last night.

Tonight, nothing going on. I took a little walk after work and stopped by the bank for walking around money. Ended up eating the leftovers from lunch, since I don't feel like cooking. It's 6:30, and I haven't had a drink yet. I'm debating right now if I am going to at all...

Couple pictures from dinner last night:

It looks and sounds like a really fun night! A blackout is not good, though! Be careful there--you know some of us (all maybe) are worrywarts.

My mother used to say that--that's a strange phrase, lol.

  11. On our last few cruises I upgrade to the unlimited, but that's because I post Live reports. My husband just likes to check in now and again so he stays with the 150 free. I will tell you, though, that sometimes the internet is REALLY slow. He found that he really only got about 20 minutes of actually being online with those 150 minutes. If you just go online to download then get off, your 150 should be enough. But it might not be...

Got a birthday dinner with B and the folks lined up for Friday at one of my favorite spots.... the whole menu is great, but let me just tell you that it would take a small army to keep me away from my country fried chicken piccata, one of my favorite dishes of all time anywhere, simple though it may be.... https://www.theheritagetable.com/dev/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/HT-Dinner-Menu-2-14-24-1.pdf

I am finally admitting defeat and coming out of the camper to go see the doc today. I just cannot beat this nastyness. I thought I was doing better when the sinus pressure let off yesterday and my ear popped, but it built back up overnight and I am just DONE. I am ready to feel better, I have a cruise in 2.5 weeks to prep for! Hopefully the doc will have something to help kick this junk out of my system.

Good thinking! I hope you get something to help and you feel better SOONEST.

One time at jury duty I said well if they arrested him he musts be guilty!!  Bye Bye, out the door.

The last time I did jury duty, it had to do with a certain toy made in China. I was asked how I felt about products made in China. I was honest, I said I try not to buy any (although that is basically impossible) and that I disapprove of America's dependence on stuff made in China and NOT made in the US. But that I would be a fair juror anyway. I thought I might be released. But I was not. And I voted against the defendant so the other lawyer was wise to keep me.

No, no, no! You just say you don't believe in the jury system and you will be shown the door.

LOL. I don't think I could do that though. I DO believe in it and I actually find it really interesting--I'd like to do it. Just not until I am retired!! But honestly, it is truly el toro poo poo that they expect people to lose income to do it. 😞

Ouch, that is definitely not good!  If called, you might have to resort to having a very strong opinion on a topic that indicates you would not be at all sympathetic to one side or the other. I was called once a few years ago and excused because I had a contagious eye issue. But they would not have selected me anyway since I retired from a law enforcement agency, where I worked in the legal department.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. As I remember each possible juror is asked at some point if there is any reason they cannot serve. Even though I know being self-employed is not a viable reason, I would bring that up. Also that my husband is retired and on SS, so my extra income is needed and it would be a financial hardship to lose my income.

One good thing about old age is that persons 70 years old or older are exempt from jury duty in Florida!

This prompted me to look into the rules here in NC. It's not good. In NJ I did not have to serve since I am self-employed/a freelancer. Here in NC that is not the case. No income during jury duty? Oh well, miss! That is not good. I hope I am not called.

@Funsince1983 - that cookie dough dip was amazing.

Thank you to @Mommapadraig @pirate4me2 @Jamman54 @princess76021 @ggooglyboogly @Greenpea2 and @TravelE for your well wishes on my cousin.

Unfortunately, Tommy had suffered entirely too much damage, and was unable to win this particular fight.  He went to join his Mother and our Grandmother/Grandfather last night.  It was clear that my Uncle made the right decision, as the machine was the only thing keeping him with us.  It was fast and peaceful.

As my cousin said in her post about her brother on the not-to-be named social media site, Tommy surpassed far beyond what any doctor had predicted, and faced and fought health obstacles his entire life of 55+ years that most people would never encounter.  With his fight, he loved like no other.  He never complained, and asked about everyone else first, even on his worst days.

Rest easy, Tommy!  You will be sorely missed.

Oh my ...this brought tears to my eyes. Such a sad thing but you expressed it and described Tommy so beautifully. He sounds like he was an angel among us. Rest in peace, Tommy.

    Update on my cousin Tommy.

MRI report was not good!  The lower half of his brain is very low which includes the brain stem.  (Personal note - not sure what it means by “very low.”  To me, that implies some activity, but I’m not a doctor.)  Shows he was without oxygen for at least 15 minutes after he had cardiac arrest.

Another Neurosurgeon is coming in later to talk with them about the diminishing quality of life Tommy is experiencing, and any improvement is not to be expected.  There has been too much damage.

My Uncle was originally optimistic about him making it through this, but now is facing reality.

You all are in my thoughts and prayers. A hard hard decision for your uncle. He will eventually get there but it will never be easy for him. I'm so very sorry.

So, being jealous of all you new car buyers, I went kicking tires yesterday.  I’m a huge Acura fan.  My current 2012 Acura TL has 113,000 miles.  I usually try to go to 125,000 miles on my vehicles.

But, it was cold, and had just snowed around these parts, I felt dealerships would be slow.  I was right.

But, I was in for quite the surprise when hitting the Acura showroom.  The replacement for my car was the TLX.  No biggie, except they are now ~ $12K more than I paid for my ‘12 model.  Yeah, interior was more “techie” (not necessarily a good thing).  But my old car’s stereo is better and I had a V6 bs the new car’s 4 cyl (albeit turbo charged.  The new one did not handle or ride better.  Interior materials were not better.  What in the world was I dropping 120 extra Benjamins for?

Plus, they acted like the Acura was somehow rare.  Hell, they had at least 20 TLXs sitting on the lot.  Yeah, that’s rare.

For grins, and given Honda is Acura’s Daddy, I went down the road to the Honda store.

Accord…drove a 4 cyl turbo.  Not bad.  Not slow..not fast.  They had a hybrid version but it was the General Manager’s demo.  Plus, it was the metallic white color I really liked.  It was the high end Touring model.  But, it didn’t have enough miles to qualify as a demo (800 miles).

Not sure about hybrids until…Test drove it.  Quite nice.  Rode and handled very well.  Quiet, spunky, very nice interior.  Tech that made way more sense than the Acura.  And, it cost way less than the Acura.

Told the dealer to let me know when they got more hybrids in stock.

I barely got home until my phone rang.  You guessed it.  “Mr GG would you consider the Manager’s demo?”.  Thought it wasn’t for sale?  It’s a car dealership.  All cars are for sale.  We negotiated on the phone.  Got a nice discount given it had mileage.  Transfered some money on line to be able to write a check.  90 minutes  later I was  taking delivery!

    Really pleased.

Congrats! Hondas are really good cars. And yeah, after not buying a new one (for me) for 15 years, the price was higher. But I suppose that's life--prices go up in 15 years. Enjoy and be safe.

this weekend is @HelloItsMeB’s birthday, so we’re headed out later tonight for dinner and drinks up in my college town. Grabbed a little Fairfield Inn for the night (Bonvoy has a 1k points and 1 extra night with each stay promo going on, so my Marriott account got the nod over her Hyatt account this time. Also, no Hyatts in town, sooo) so we can relax and crash there. Then tomorrow she’s having girls’ brunch while I wait patiently for the extended True Detective S4 finale that can’t possibly tie up every loose end…

    have a great weekend, y’all!

    Yay!

Think you’re confusing a lie for a misleading statement.

If you have to do “research”… finding that the words don’t have their usual meaning.. that’s what makes something misleading.
It’s not a “lie”—- since there is an asterisk, and on page 5 of the terms and conditions, you can learn there are charges so it’s not actually free…

A “lie” is a statement plainly untrue.

A “misleading statement” is a statement that suggests one thing, but more “research” shows is means something else.

Yes— lots of cruise lines use misleading marketing. yes, lots of companies engage in misleading marketing, not just cruise lines.
Jist because it’s common, doesn’t mean it’s not misleading.

Honestly? To me, as asterisk only means "Better check what that asterisk means before I decide."
