  1. From a price standpoint Dial7 and Carmel will be your best bets (hardly a bit of difference between them as they are aggregators). That being said UberBlack will literally be the same pool of cars that Dial7 and Carmel use.
  2. If everything runs smoothly with arriving on time should be plenty of time. It's a super short 30ish minutes from the center of town to YUL.
  3. Does your cruise offer a shuttle option? 10 adults is going to be a lot of moving parts doing it outside of an organized shuttle. That being said you can hire your own car service (or services), take a bus, or take the train (with a change in either Bologna or Ferrara). A minivan that seats 5-6 plus luggage is going to cost around 350-400 Euros for that trip and you'll need at least 2. The bus and train will be significantly cheaper per person (the train is around 20 Euro if bought in advance even using the high speed Frecce trains) but there will be transfers etc to get to the cruise port and you'll most likely need an Uber or taxi to connect you at either end.
  4. Wouldn't be too sure about the price-- just ran a week through Logan's parking system. It came to $287 for the main lots and $224 for the Economy lot. There might be some third party lots that could be less but $120 per week expectation is going to result in disappointment...
  5. Technically the starboard side will be the best when arriving. The ship may or may not dock on that side though. Honestly its incredibly dull sailing up the Mississippi until you are right on the city which will be a very short stint before docking.
  6. I stand by what I said at least-- there will not be folks hawking tours in Kona like you have in the Caribbean.
  7. Or there is an local app called Hitch which will call you a taxi like an Uber from your phone for a premium. Upside is they bill a credit card you have with the app so can cut down on need for cash.
  8. You could. It s easy enough-- quick Uber from the pier to Gare Centrale for the departure. WIth Amtrak you need to arrive by at least 9:30 so you don't have as much time as you think you do because there is paperwork and formailites to do before boarding. Although you should stay for the day-- Montreal is a wonderful city with a ton to see and a fantastic food scene. It is the only train of the day-- so if they were to miss it that would be game over. That being said it is the origination of the train so there aren't any unforeseen delays. It departs on time. But again-- I would really encourage them to stay a night in Montreal because of what a wonderful town it is.
  9. This isn't the Caribbean. There won't be folks hawking tours.
  10. I would book something outside the city with a very flexible cancellation policy-- 6pm the day of arrival for example, and then the day before or the morning of use an app like HotelTonight to see what might be available in the city. Its not unheard of for rates to crash the night before one of these things.
  11. Water will be too cold for (most) people. Mid 60s right now-- wont find me near it. Horseshoe Bay is nice but its going to be brisk. Even the air temp is going to be high 60s and maybe just touching 70. Not really beach weather. I would flip these days-- day 2 go to St Georges since its further away. You can either take the ferry back or work your way back overland. NCL runs a free ferry to St Georges. On your last day Hamilton is much closer to the Dockyard. Maybe even do St Georges day 1, Hamilton day 2, and go sit on the beach for a few hours on day 3 before heading back to the ship.
  12. The short answer is that they exist, they're great when it works, but Uber anywhere in Hawaii except for Honolulu is spotty and not 100% reliable. Maui has a decent amount but wait times can be substantial at peak times, like 6pm. Kauai has much less than Maui and it can be spotty. This isn't meant to sounds vague but it can work well and then be non existent a few hours later and there's no way to predict. Local taxis can be called to fill in the gaps.
  13. In the city itself, zip, zero, zilch. In a hotel garage overnight parking will be somewhere between like $30 and $75 a night depending on where. Boston is a major Northeast city-- no such thing as free parking. It's possible you could find that outside of the city but it will be a decent distance out. There are a handful of hotels that offer shuttles-- like a Doubletree, Hyatt Place, Hampton Inn. Theres a Homewood Suites thats within walking distance (their parking is $60 a night just as a comparison).
  14. Like you said, you did the major things. Personally I would ask my hotel for a late check out and sit by the pool or go for a walk on the beach. That's what we usually do when we have an overnight in Honolulu on our way home. No need to set anything up-- Uber works really well.
  15. Boston overall is very expensive when it comes to hotels, especially the 4-5 star ones of higher quality. If you have Marriott/Hilton/Hyatt points it can be a good value to consider using them during peak times. Fairmont Copley Plaza is one of my favorites for walkability and the hotel itself is a local landmark. The Newbury is also a favorite and right on Boston Public Garden. Both of these can be expensive though (but you can find deals occasionally). The Westin in Copley Place you can sometimes find a deal at and the Boston Park Plaza Hotel (I think now run by Hilton) was always a well located option where you can find a deal. You can find options outside of the city that can be a lot cheaper. Some of the airport hotels would fit into this. There is a Marriott in Quincy that is essentially in an office park but it is a full service hotel for usually around $100-150 a night thats only a 15-20 minute Uber ride into downtown.
  16. You have time then. If you drove straight from where your ship is to Hana it will take about 2 hours. So if you slow down and stop at some places on the way out and back you're looking at a minimum of 6 hours round trip but that could be up to 8 if you stop for lunch etc. Still gives you a lot of buffer time with an 11pm departure if you can get on the road as close to 10am as possible. I would recommend actually driving beyond Hana to the pools in 'Ohe'o Gulch and use the large National Park parking lot there as a turn around. Another turn around we've used before is the grave of Charles Lindbergh which is beyond the pools a bit in a churchyard.
  17. I've driven the Hana road maybe 30 times and am about to again in two weeks. Is your ship overnighting in Kahului? If not what time do you depart? It's well worth it but you're going to want to make sure you have enough time. You can hire a private tour to do it-- personally I much prefer driving it myself rather then being stuck on a minibus. Most people start out very early because you can easily spend the entire day. Getting on the road around 10am (with a 9am arrival) you'll be a little late out of the gate but this might also mean a little less congestion on the road. This will depend on how much time you have. If you are overnighting and don't have to be back at a certain time renting a car is a great option which might be more cost effective. The apps, particularly GuideAlong, are great and add a tremendous amount to the drive. If you aren't overnighting then a guided tour makes a lot more sense. Personally I don't love them as I like to be able to stop where I want but being able to not have to pick up and drop off a car will save you a lot of time.
  18. Thats because Carmel is just an aggregator-- they don't own or operate any cars. All of their third party providers are the same drivers/cars you see on Uber or Lyft app. From an experience standpoint there's essentially zero difference between them.
  19. You can definitely use Apple Pay without a cell/data connection or even in airplane mode. I don't have experience with Google Pay but I would assume it would be similar.
  20. Widely accepted-- even for smaller purchases. Just make sure its a credit card that doesn't have a foreign transaction fee.
  21. Not sure if I would really worry-- you have a ton of other options if there is something off with the ferry. Just hop in an Uber.
  22. For helicopters, no. Blue Hawaiian is a good outfit and has newer equipment than most others in the islands but all of their helicopters are still single engine. I'm in the aviation industry and I wouldn't put myself on a chopper that wasn't twin engined for safety reasons. We've had great experiences with Mokulele Airlines with their Cessna Caravans-- bigger windows, rugged and reliable airplane. You could do a charter with them. Some of their regularly scheduled flights are essentially free tours. Wings Over Kauai is also a good operation and offers more in the line of tours. They have an Airvan which is good for sightseeing and can carry a bunch of passengers. They also have a bunch of Cessna 172s which I think are a little small for sightseeing and can only seat like 2.
  23. You don't really need to be to the terminal til maybe 3:45 unless you need extra time at the airport. Getting to the parking lot at 3:30ish would be fine. I always give myself a little bit of buffer in and around DC due to the traffic although you'll be coming in on 66 in the opposite flow of traffic during that time.
  24. It will most likely move faster than that. No formalities, small cruise terminal. If you are staying in Waikiki you are 10-15 minutes from your hotel. You might be at your hotel around 10 or not long thereafter if you are motivated to do so.
  25. Is it dual engine or single engine? How many hours does the pilot have? Not sure if I would be looking for the best price in a rotor operation. Personally would feel safer using a fixed wing option to tour.
