  1. I thought it might be worthwhile to repost the OP statement. In its entirety. We are disagreeing about the interpretation of your question, @Jgrossman Were you asking about the code itself, about changes that may be coming to that written code, about our experiences on board under the present code, or something else? Although years go by, when I was first considering Silversea for our 1st ever cruise, I received so much help on this board from the people above & others who post elsewhere, and the regrettable few we no longer see, that it pains me to watch them search for the best answer to your post. Your clarification would be welcomed.
  2. It's a shame this topic causes such disharmony. The OP's past posts have been on Seabourn's forum. Just an observation. Nevertheless, my answer to the question posed is - if you are asking how strict the dress code is - you would best learn from Silversea's posted policies on its website. If you are asking how strictly it is enforced, well that's a different question. IMO, sensibly, based on my limited experience and reading the posts of others.
  3. Good one WWT. I'm still getting over he thinks my wife only went for me because of my legs... 😉
  4. more than that, a feeling we're slipping here, up North an anchor, but don't want to know who we'd be without them, or you across the pond, or really, when I think about it, all the different countries represented by those in the cooler. somehow, I think we'll work through it
  5. instead, adorable On Canada Day Eve, i thought this love song by a group from London on the beautiful island of Iceland could be offered to our Northern neighbors by an American still traumatized by the debate
  6. It is kind of funny to remember how things were compared to how they are now. So much has changed, and generally improved. Let's hope to continue on the generally better trend. If it hadn't been so stinky and unpleasant, I would've forgotten the outhouse from my early childhood. Love to read this. Thank you! I am having trouble dealing with the complaining about what I see as minor issues on other topics. I do recognize the right to complain, but I often feel it is failing to see the forest for the trees. OK debate about to start. I thought us old guys (including these 2 & me) went to bed around 9. Wife wide awake, guess I'll leave here and take a seat in the living room for a bit. If necessary, would the UK take us back, with a few seats in Parliament perhaps?
  7. Possibly. But with this unit, I'll try to prove you wrong, with an open mind Amazon.com: Breville Sear & Press Grill BGR700BSS, Brushed Stainless Steel : Everything Else
  8. Made me laugh, thanks Jeff. OK, budget doubled...
  9. OK, totally off topic here. Has anyone ever bought a home panini maker? The QSS household is, typically, a decade behind the trend here. Nevertheless, we recently had the most exquisite turkey reuben while on vacation that had been prepared on such a device. Turkey, sliced, with cheese, sauerkraut and 1000 island dressing. Need to know I can have again. So, should I buy one? Your experiences will help in the $40 decision. Actually, it's not just the money, but the storage space....
  10. @Catlover54 wrote well above, worth repeating, JP your travel posts are a delight, both for me and my wife. Thank you for taking the time to do so, welcome home.
  11. A Day at the beach, wife refusing to be photographed, so me, with apologies. I do tell her how beautiful I think she is; who is it that is telling her she isn't? TV? Put all that aside, because I just wanted to share a bit of our nice day at the shore. The blue Atlantic, a balm for all kinds of wounds. (I had a post deleted for being malicious, mom didn't raise a malicious boy, just a bit foolish at times I accept) After a hike through a maritime forest Hoping everyone is doing well.
  12. With the rain ruling out a beach visit or our favorite seafood store a few miles off, the nearby Publix (grocery store, as Lois can attest) had bay scallops, baking potatoes, & a premade salad for our 1st night dinner here. Also had a nice red blend from California which I am working my way through with the help of cheese crackers. Wife on a low cal vodka path - each to her/his own. The place is growing on me, even if I end up sleeping on the couch.
  13. We've rented a "tiny house" a couple blocks from the Atlantic Ocean for a few days, just a quick getaway from the sweltering heat back home. Arrived in a downpour but c'est la vie. Picture is from their posting on AirBnB. Quite nice in person too.
  14. I've started investing in stocks: beef, vegetable, chicken. One day I hope to be a bouillianaire. I love this one! It's not shown as a quote as I copied it to my (soon to be former) friends elsewhere & i guess I shouldn't have hit paste here in the cooler. Welcome BillC! Have a seat.
  15. Well, not in the same position as the Lady from Bath, but similar perhaps? Watching CNN with a nice glass of red (and of course a beautiful wife) and there is a segment about Prince William caught dancing in his booth at a Taylor Swift concert. My personal feelings - I like to dance but I have never heard a woman say I am a good dancer. Perhaps I've even heard worse. Regardless, why can't the media just let the man have a good time? Why is this news?? Besides, I think Ms Swift is quite talented. I don't like all her songs but this video might be worth watching for her skeptics. Interesting contrast to previous Christine & Queens... even if I find her outfit ridiculous
  16. But you didn't back down, I'm raising a toast to you tonight. Lois, we haven't been to those places, but they are on our list. I hope you have a wonderful trip.
  17. Fall off the perch! I find that expression hilarious, as I hope you meant it to be, and thank you for it. Our Silversea experiences have been consistently very good to great, and we've no intention to change, but will keep our eyes and ears open. I've seen what accountants can do to a good brand....
  18. This is a picture from a museum in Pompeii, or it might be Herculaneum, from our visit to Italy last year. Of all the amazing things we learned and saw, this one picture haunted me the most. It was on a wall from a house destroyed in the eruption; the tour guide said it was most likely a painting of the owners of the destroyed home. Like you say Jeff, just like us.
  19. Hope your cruise is wonderful! Also hope the Mt Dalsinibba & Eagle Road excursion works out well. We found the village charming. The seven sisters waterfall is close by, the ship will cruise by. Understood, have fun and be glad you're missing some weird kind of heat wave here in North America.
  20. Jeff, I'm not sure how it has shaped me. I would substitute seek the truth for seize the day, as difficult to find the truth is. But I am a happy man with a wonderful wife; brothers I hold close. Admittedly I've little tolerance for those who mock anyone with mental or physical limitations. I do enjoy thoughtful interactions with those such as yourself around the cooler 😊
  21. So, maybe one of us men should add some life background. I'm pretty sure other stories would eclipse mine, so I'll try to keep it short. My mom was born in the USA to Dutch immigrant parents in Iowa. My Dad's background was hidden till Ancestry.com revealed things just a few years ago. His mother was born to Norwegian immigrants in Minnesota, his biological dad disappeared with a woman unknown to me. Dad was adopted by my real grandpa (not biological) whose name I carry. Scottish. My mother's first husband died in Europe fighting the ***, air force, plane shot down by the Luftwaffe. Mom and Dad met in the US Navy during World War 2 after that occurred. Dad served in the Pacific on an aircraft carrier; attacked but never sunk by the Japanese. They married after the war and moved to a rural location in Pennsylvania. Their first child, my sister Tina, was born physically and mentally handicapped due to the umbilical cord wrapping around her neck during birth. My 2 brothers and I grew up well loved and taken care of by Mom; Dad's job required much travel, he was often gone. We 3 brothers were often called to defend our sister from cruel taunts by classmates. My father was driven - to ensure sufficient $ were available to provide the best care for Tina. We brothers resented his absence. Only recently I have come to understand his sacrifice for his daughter, and really for us all. Dad and Mom stayed married till Mom died of an aneurysm about 10 years ago. Tina passed away a few years ago. Dad's gone now too.
