You can always get cash in the casino, charged to your shipboard account. Since I use the NCL card that gives back 3% on NCL purchases, ultimately there is no actual charge - although I use the points for upgrades so I get back way more in that case. Not always. The points I get by using my NCL card make getting cash in the casino at least a wash, but I can usually use $300 worth of points to upgrade to a balcony, an upgrade sometimes worth over $2K. If the card you use onboard gives travel points, you might also be able to score there. NCL purchases are considered travel, it pays to check the terms of your card. Note- I pay off my credit card monthly so I'm not paying interest. If you carry a balance on your card then you'd be paying interest so it's probably not the best deal to charge cash to your onboard account.

3% charge for money charged to your account in the casino. Posted as a travel expense, so rebates may cover some or all of that expense.

Oh, for the love of Cookies! Say it ain't so...
julig22 replied to Birdnutty's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
Or maybe cut back on the # of cookies they include with room service - that seems to be where the "waste" is coming from. I saw 2 different leftover cookie plates in the corridor on my latest cruise - looks like a plate is at least a dozen cookies. Make it 6, if someone wants more, they can request a supersize. -
Just got screwed out of nearly $500 can.

Without knowing why NCL changed the flights, it's hard to speculate on what might be covered by insurance or refunded by NCL. I once had flights changed due to an impending airline strike, but I hadn't paid for seats. OP needs to verify whether or not the original scheduled flights had any changes. -

If NCL changed the flight, you might be able to request some reimbursement - they usually offer $300 when people have to change flights, so worth a try - make your request in writing, not a phone call. If the airline made a significant change to your flight, you should be able to try for a refund. True that upgrades aren't usually refundable but that usually applies to just simply changing your mind. But since you were rebooked on a different airline, insurance might be your only recourse. -

Afternoon snack, Jewel casino. They weren't there until about 3pm. @dbrown84 only cookies, so far anyway. But sadly as I was walking down the hall from the casino to my room there was a full plate of cookies left in the hallway - someone's uneaten leftovers, probably ordered from room service. -

airfare with cruise/general question
julig22 replied to wintertexancruiser's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
I've always gotten regular economy through NCL but it does depend on the route and airline. Unless you get a SW flight, you'll pay checked baggage fees for domestic flights. International flights have always included 1 or 2 checked bags, depending on your destination. If your flight is delayed or cancelled, you don't lose your ticket assuming you go through the airline to rebook. If you cancel your ticket, any refund would go back to NCL. Seat choices/costs are variable, again by airline and route. -

I agree on the chip's ahoy - pretty much how they tasted. But today at the M&G they had Macadamia nut ones, along with the chocolate ones. And Oatmeal/raisin (I think), along with the macadamia ones in the afternoon snack buffet. -

On the Jewel right now - here's my cookie haul from Great Outdoors. Choc chip not fresh baked by any means, chocolate ones are the same as they've always had. -
Never. Anything extra available onboard is due to cancellations or, in rare cases, the tour company is able to add another bus at the last minute.

You are missing a big distinction. These are bags you personally carry on the ship so you know they didn't get left behind. Not about theft, at least in my opinion. And you can access them at anytime if you need something before you get to your room.

Interior to balcony free upgrade - Free at Sea perks

Generally speaking, changes made prior to final DUE date will affect FAS perks, changes made after the due date will not affect FAS perks. -
NCL Jewel-Tokyo to Alaska live review (maybe...)
julig22 replied to natefish95's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
I'm on the same cruise, we arrived on Saturday. I also had an issue using my BofA card to buy our Disney tickets prior to coming, I had to use my Chase card, not thinking I'd have to pay a foreign transaction fee. Oops. Haven't ever had an issue in the past using it while traveling, just assumed it was because it was an internet purchase?? My Charles Schwab debit card also wouldn't work at the 7-11 bank kiosk at the airport but worked just fine later at another ATM. -
They tend to close the security doors now so no access to most cabins unless you happen to find a back way in. As to lost luggage, only seen a lost luggage flier on 1 cruise out of 20+.

Dawn passengers left “stranded” on African island
julig22 replied to WonderMan3's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
And for the 99% of passengers who do adhere to the rules, that would be a plus. "We're not afraid to leave rude, self centered passengers behind so the rest of you can continue to enjoy your cruise" -

Banning them from NCL has been discussed, I'm assuming NCL could but don't know if they would. And I doubt if we'll ever know - unless of course they contact the press again about how NCL continues to harass them or something. But flying them home - Nope, not on NCL's dime anyway. Come back onboard where they can endure that walk of shame for the rest of the trip. I just hope the LateEight don't get any further compensation for their troubles - at least not from NCL. NCL, on the other hand, could actually come out unscathed IMHO. Free press, pointing out the NCL goes to exotic locations. And a warning to anyone who takes a cruise that if you miss the all-aboard time you might find yourself with some very significant problems. -

Yea, I questioned that as well. And find it interesting that the press is now phrasing it as "a pregnant woman and an elderly man with a heart condition." No further mention of a paraplegic, which I would think, if it was true, would add to the sensationalism the press is looking for. -
Question(s) about repricing before final payment
julig22 replied to duggage's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
If the price drops before final payment and you request an adjustment (it isn't automatic), they will refund back to your original form of payment. Technically I believe they are processing it as a rebooking in their system but your reservation # stays the same, and all of your payments stay the same. But if anything else has changed, such as promos, those will also change. So under normal circumstances, your final price will only change by the amount of the cabin price drop. But over the years I've seen price increases for flights and port charges (actually dropped). Or changes in the cost of the gratuities for the drink/meal packages. If that happens, your final cost may include those changes as well. -
Dawn passengers left “stranded” on African island
julig22 replied to WonderMan3's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
not exactly. They reimbursed the costs to get to the ship from Gambia, since the ship was unable to port in Gambia. "Despite the series of unfortunate events outside of our control, we will be reimbursing these eight guests for their travel costs from Banjur, Gambia to Dakar, Senegal. As of this morning, all eight guests have rejoined the ship.” -

Responsible for not letting them board - nope. All expenses - nope. Additional expenses incurred because they canceled Gambia and have to go to the next port. -

So I saw the GMA report - and, other than the fact that they actually ran the story, I didn't feel that they were sensationalizing or taking the side of the poor mistreated passengers. And the moderator's responses were along the lines of "don't be late" - not sympathy for the passengers or any mention of how terrible is was for NCL to just leave them. Anybody else notice the change in the newest reports in the description of the passengers left behind. Before it was a parapalegic, someone with a heart condition and a pregnant woman. So thinking that now the parapalegic has transformed to an elderly lady after some fact checking. Since the original info seems to have come directly from the couple that went to the press, puts more doubt on the credibility of other things they have said. One would think that they were left in the middle of the jungle with no way out according to one poster here. There is a hospital on the island if they need medication. There is an airport to fly them to the next port. No different than if they had missed the ship in the Bahamas.
