  1. Amazing that you got a landing on Elephant Island. Only seen it from a distance. Gives me chills. I'd be happy with a zodiac ride. 😃
  2. HAPPY NEW YEAR to all the Financial Coolers and especially out fearless leader Terry! Wishing you all Fair Winds and Following Seas. A few charts and thoughts to close out the year. S&P started 2023 on the low of the year, and ended 1 day shy of the high. We ended 2023 very close to the beginning of 2022. It took 2 years to return to that high. Oh lordy, please don't let it be a double top!
  3. Terribly frustrating. Failed upload can happen for many reasons. None of which are your fault. I'm sure you have thought of this, but just in case.... If I'm thinking and not being lazy I will only upload a few pics at a time. More importantly if there is a narrative before the pics I upload separate.
  4. In some 3rd world countries without bathroom doors many take umbrellas to the bathroom as a privacy shield. Perhaps SS should place an umbrella holder outside those bathroom doors.😁
  5. Fascinating, might have to put this on the agenda!
  6. Thanks for your thoughtful comparisons. IMHO It seems with the expansion of luxury expedition ships the availability of good expedition staff has spread out. Whilst most ships will usually have a few top members with local knowledge, the balance are now just zodiac drivers. If you're lucky you will get a good driver who is at least entertaining and made an effort to learn something of the local flora and fauna. Exceptions apply to this generality. On a recent Fiji to Broome, the first leg was one the best expedition teams we have ever encountered, the second leg after a change in Cairns paled by comparison. Perhaps the luck of the draw and not specific to any one cruise line. Over the years we have often seen some our favorite expedition staff bounce between Seabourn and Silversea. We now see some on other cruise lines. Perhaps the lure of better accommodations, different itineraries, and of course money.
  7. What a fabulous jaunt! Crepes everyday, yes please!
  8. @Port Power Great intel, thanks. I think it's your superpower. You always got to the bottom of things in the Kimberly's! 😃 Last time we were in Antarctica and South South Georgia we had 7 kayaks booked. Only 2 trips went. Not sure I'll book any for South Georgia this coming Feb/March. Don't want to miss a possible landing there. Private zodiac for a fee, very interesting . I bet it's a big number $$$.😉
  9. Just wondering, do you know if the kayakers are allowed to go on a zodiac cruise in addition to the kayak?
  10. It looks like Le Lyrial is on its way to South Georgia.
  11. So pleased to see you got some quality time with the Kings.
  12. I am so happy for you! Now that's a good Christmas present. Dont forget to toast at Shackletons grave.
  13. Hmmmm, are you sure South Georgia is closed to ALL landings? As of Dec. 20, many sites were still open. But it is a dynamic situation and things could have changed. Cloud is in Gritviken today. Might want to ask if they landed. Friends landed in Fortuna about 2 weeks ago. But again, things might have changed.
  14. Tough onenp is right. Sending you get well soon, as in really really soon vibes.
  15. Tough news. Any possibility of landings at Grytviken or Fortuna? I believe others have had landings there recently.
