Ponant canceling South Georgia Island due to bird flu...
highplanesdrifters replied to mbanks1220's topic in Ponant
Slightly dated info. https://www.swoop-antarctica.com/cruises/south-georgia/avian-flu I've heard from an expedition member who landed on Fortuna a few weeks ago where there is a big King colony. But it's a rather dynamic situation that may change quickly. FWIW, here is an interesting link to all the South Georgia landing sites. https://gov.gs/visitor-sites/ -

Forgot...... Fair winds to you and all on board. May you be blessed with the Drake Lake and many landings. I hear that some landings are being made in South Georgia at Fortuna Bay. Hope that holds. Look forward to your posts. -

Some landing sites in South Georgia have been closed due to Avian Flu, but still allowing zodiac only trips. Do you have information that the same is true for some Antarctica landings? -
Love that you are in a "No Moss" phase!

Wouldn't that be sweet! You may be right, we may just muddle through this mess with all that sideline cash. As a market contrarian who is always looking over my shoulder, I am now a bit concerned. When the Government powers that be are going the Mission Accomplished route and some even taking a victory lap (ahem, Yellen) - I become rather nervous. AND, how do JPOW & Co. go from NO rate cuts next year to a firm 3 without batting an eye in such a short period? Got my hedgies ready to execute. -

Crazy right? Can this next move really take us to 5100 this Spring? If this happens, could be. For all my Gold Bugs....drool and validation. Still plenty on the sidelines. And what the heck is this Fed tool. Looks like a theatre seating chart. Dec plot. Front and center for the rally! -
On the Quest avoid 600 & 601. Anchor noise significant. The front windows open to the public deck. They have a one way coating but it is still rather creepy when folks are looking in. You'll only make that mistake once. 😉 If you Google the specific suite, you can often find numerous videos of that suite. Perhaps you have already found some. Use the category name, not the suite number. Remember that the Quest, Sojourn, and Odyssey are sister ships. Rooms and spaces will be very similar. Specific questions about what is or isn't included can only be answered by the cruise line. In general suites near the bow will have the most motion, aft, less so. Center, significantly less. Good Upgrades get snapped up fast.

Hear hear! But it has been made so much easier with your help! In the throws of Christmas travel and chaos also. I've filed all your excellent suggestions and will dig in as the merriment does down. 😁 In an earlier post you asked if I was a Potter. I thought what a strange question. Then the lightbulb went off. Yes, loved all the Potter books, but not the reason for the trip . Might be fun to see a few of the inspirations though.

One also needs to compare lie flat seats in biz class, as they are not created equal. For example: Many TA Biz seats on BA are just crammed uncomfortable lie flats with a small shelf. First class more traditional pods, quite nice. Lots of old planes still lurking about. Just looked at UA, ORD-EDI. Yes Polaris lie flat, but in a 2-2 config. No pod, no shelf, old plane. Seat guru has been very helpful in sorting it all out. -
Darn, sorry to miss you. We'll be on the Cloud, then doing Cape to Cape. Heard some good news from South Georgia. They have been landing at Fortuna Bay. Nice King colony. Hope they don't close it before we get there.

What's in City in The Clouds cocktail? Looks delish.

@Port Power. Thanks again for all your posts. I can see why SALT is so popular. What is LCR?

@edinburgher & @fruitmachine along with all others, THANK YOU for the invaluable information you have provided. I have put everything in my files and will be digging deeper in he next few weeks. I am especially grateful for the little bits you have provided. Just wrapping up airfare. Never easy, and always expensive. If I might indulge on your expertise - On to hotels. Any comments on Old Town vs. New Town? It's always nice to have some space. We are taking my sister. Looking at Cheval The Edinburgh Grand, they have a nice 2 bedroom. We also love small boutique hotels if you have any suggestions.
