  1. Be very careful in following this advice. Remember that while a birth certificate and government issued photo ID can be used by US citizens on certain close looped cruises from a US port, this is only meets the US requirement for reentering the US at the end of the cruise. However, other countries can require a passport for cruise ship passengers and there are countries in the "Caribbean" that do (Caribbean is in quotes because many think that if a country borders the Caribbean Sea or Gulf of Mexico, they fall under the BC and photo ID use). One must always pay attention to the itinerary and the written information on document requirements as posted on the cruise lines websites and provided by the cruise line in booking information. Cruise lines can also require passports for all passengers or just specific groups of passengers. Just ask a small group of passengers left on the pier at embarkation on a recent Princess cruise (24 out of approximately 3,000 passenger) who ignored the requirement for a passport because of the itinerary and went with "Caribbean" closed loop cruise from US port.
  2. Passenger space can be misleading. If the public space includes areas that are only useful to a few a certain times and not available for all to use whenever they may wish, then passenger space is much less than one may thing. Areas that curtail the amount of useable passenger space include the following: specialty restaurants, "entertainment" features such as any amusement park ride, private cabanas or other rented spaces, ship within a ship areas (limited for those in the upscale ghetto and those outside the area), and additional cabins added to a ship that originally had libraries, game rooms and larger or more lounges.
  3. He reminds as young head waiter who had just graduated from university with a degree in hospitality (or whatever that course of study is called) and was on his first assignment on the Rotterdam. He talked to every table in his section every night. My husband smiled whenever he saw him coming because my husband knows my type (husband is also a blue eyed blond ).
  4. Yes, exactly my advice as especially in this case, there is minor child that will not have the adult booked in the cabin checking in with him.
  5. LOL - I do remember a cruise where Celebrity allowed shorts in the dining room based on the specific itinerary. It was on the Zenith Bermuda cruise, two nights in St George, three in Hamilton. Men were allowed the proper Bermuda short attire - dress shoes, knee socks, belted dress Bermuda shorts, collared dress shirt, sport coat or suit jacket.
  6. On apps for other cruiselines, the health assessment section does not become active until 24 hours before boarding (hours based on scheduled sail away time). I just received a reminder to do mine the day of embarkation (another cruise line). The health assessment questions are the more general ones used before Covid. Remember if you are a male, do not check that you are pregnant (read some funny threads about this error, just needs to be fixed at the pier).
  7. No it hasn't. Read the other posts from cruisers with more experience in how buffets work as far as open hours and number of stations in service. This whole thread and at least one other, is based on unconfirmed rumors or very limited observation. By the way, I would not be surprise if the Constellation (for near upcoming cruisers) has only one side of the buffet in operation for dinner for all or part of the dinner service. That was the way it was on our Constellation cruise in 2022 and on the Millennium Alaska cruise (fully booked) last summer. There was no need to both sides to be open. The stations that were specialty (like the pizza and soft serve) were open if the side they were on was the closed section.
  8. I lived for many years in a very wealthy neighborhood. Some of the largest houses had very expensive cars in the driveway and the inhabitants of the house wore designer clothing. However, when on walking paths that ran behind the houses, one could see that the furniture in the house was the plastic web outside furniture. Flash on the outside, but not able to afford the inside.
  9. If I am reading your post correctly, your current bookings is for two rooms (one reservation number? two reservation numbers?). Balcony cabin with husband and minor son. Interior cabin has yourself, nineteen year old son and his girlfriend (age?) You need to talk to your travel agent or Carnival before arriving at the pier or you may have trouble embarking. 1. What is the great rate? If it is specifically tied to your husband, he must be sailing to retain the rate and all of you be allowed to board. 2. Your minor son will not be able to check in without the responsible adult in the cabin with him. You are officially booked into another cabin. 3. Your nineteen year old son is not an adult under Carnival rules and neither is his girlfriend unless she is 21 or older. However, there must be a passenger over 25 in the cabin for them to be in a separate cabin or have a patent or guardian in an accompanying cabin. There are rules on how close the cabins must be to each other. Do your current two cabins meet the restrictions for "accompanying?" (I do not know them). 4.Your cruise is at the start of spring break time for colleges. Carnival will be especially vigilant in checking that under 21s have proper adult (over 25) supervision for their cabins. I personally would want to have any kinks in the booking/cabin requirements officially worked out before trying to slip by at embarkation without the required adult supervision for the two cabins. I do not know what fees will be involved with the change.
  10. To add to the historical sites others have listed: Remnants of the mound builders that are found from Florida up through the eat coast and central portion of the state. Fossil hunting at Calvert Cliffs State Park in Maryland or other fossil sites through out the US. Impact craters in Arizona and the large one known as the Gulf of Mexico. The list can go on....
  11. I was about to edit my post to add about the aft mooring ropes, but chengkp75 beat me to it. If you google for images of other Vista Class ships, you can find pictures of the stern area of the ships. I used the Zuiderdam. In the pictures you can see the windows for the two levels of the aft dining room and under them is an open area where the hawsers are deployed from. If you are in that aft cabin next to that area, you may hear noise during the mooring process.
  12. As the Venezia is a Vista class ship, my guest is that it is crew space.
  13. We have the Smithsonian channel as part of our cable line up. We can also pull up episodes in the "On Demand" cable section. I frequently ask my husband, "Are we cruising or training tonight?"
  14. You are worrying about something that is basically a rumor. Your experience in February (in the slow season) gives you a good idea of what you will find in a July Bermuda cruise which is the Bermuda cruise season. While the Edge is carries about seven hundred passenger more than Summit, the buffet offering should be equal (and maybe more as the July sailing is a peak sailing season vs slow season).
  15. Journalism at its finest. The number of passengers affected was actually twenty four. Twenty four out of the approximate three thousand passengers did have the correct documentation for the cruise. And BS on the story was called by those of us familiar with Princess notifications of documentation needed for a specific cruise itinerary. If nothing else when all the other information provided by Princess was ignored, on line check in for that particular itinerary would not have worked with a birth certificate. Remember, the allowance for a birth certificate and government ID for US cruisers on a closed loop tour is only the US requirement for reentering the US. Other countries have the right to require passports for cruisers and there are countries in the Caribbean, South America, and Central America that do. Maybe in denial of what was being told to them in writing about the passport requirement, a call was made to Princess customer service and the question was "Do I need a passport for a closed loop Caribbean cruise?" Short answer would be no. However, if the person had also stated that their Caribbean cruise included Martinique, Guadeloupe, and Cartagena (Colombia) as was the case for the Princess cruise, they would have been told the correct information. Princess also requires passports for all people on a reservation when it is a single adult (parent or guardian) traveling with under age children So be a savvy cruiser. Remember that one must always check the ports of call for a cruise for the requirements for the country one is visiting. Cruise line websites always has this information available for the ports of call for their ships. There are also cruise lines that require passports for any of their itineraries.
  16. Such a lot of drama for someone who may be trying Celebrity for the first time. Celebrity provides gluten free food in the buffet. Depending on the ship, it is in a well marked section of the buffet or the gluten free items are labeled and put in with the similar food items (desserts with desserts, main entrees with other mains). Do not believe all the sky are falling posts or rumor spreader posts from some posters who are known for those type of posts. You will have a selection of GF food in the buffet.
  17. It is not so much the changes in the cruise experience as our ages. We haven't stopped buying green banana yet, but I am more reluctant to put money on trips that are more than six months out.
  18. The smaller number of stations open in the buffet and open seating sections can also be an indication of managing a problem with crew numbers. As has been reported, cruise lines (not only Celebrity) are having a problem with having a full staff on board. Those dinner waiters in the dining room also pull duty in the buffet at breakfast and lunch. As a result, some of the MDRs are closed for lunch on days when they were previously open as staff is needed in the buffet. Conversely, at dinner time, the staff assigned to the buffet may be needed as wait staff in the dining room. Also, if one is cruising in January, one is cruising in an off season as far as number of cruisers on a ship. It is the reason that January has lower fares than most of the rest of the year. The number of passengers on board will be lower than the peak and shoulder seasons. This will affect where crew will be deployed at different times of the day and what venues may be open. Over our years of cruising, we have noticed that buffets at dinner have different peak hours for passengers. The heaviest use is early in the time period when the buffet is first open. Traffic greatly slows down after about an hour and a half to two hours after opening. We usually do early dining in the MDR, but my husband often prefers to leave the MDR to browse the dessert selection in the dining room. This means we are up in the buffet around 7 - 7:30 PM and across the board on all lines (before and after covid). Many of the stations that had been open at the start of service are being closed and the food offerings consolidated to one side or section of the buffet. The sky is not falling.
  19. Unless one is color blind. I showed your post to my husband and he said the so called impossible to miss print was a slightly darker shade of gray on a gray background.
  20. Greatly lower your expectations from Celebrity. Carnival will meet those new expectations and possibly be even lower.
  21. I didn't know that the Magic School Bus was available to make the crossing to Cozumel....
  22. Or above a kitchen area. The pot scrubber or dropped pans at 3 AM for the baked goods can be loud.
  23. The website clearly states the time period when the tests must be done BEFORE embarkation. You are on your own to find a testing site, have the test, and have the hard or electronic copy of the results available to show at pier check in.
  24. Keep in mind if the ships can not make it into port because of heavy fog, Tampa airport operations for inbound and outbound flights will also be affected. The local Tampa new station showed the arrival and departure board at TPA. There were many delayed and cancelled flights because of the fog. Part of the story also involved the excellent job done by the local county sheriff's deputies at keeping order at the port terminals for incoming passengers by making sure that the terminal drop off areas and parking lots were clear of departing guests before allowing incoming passengers.
  25. Belize City is a port stop where I will only do ship excursions. The reason is simple; excursions to many of the sites (ruins, caves, tubing) involve bus rides of over an hour on roads that are dirt once off the main highway. Any problems and the ship will probably hold a late tender for you to return to the ship. You may save money on a private excursion, but if something delays your return, and it has on several of my Belize excursions, it is good to know that the ship is waiting.
