Yeah, I keep seeing all these reports of "NCL skips Antarctica on Antarctica Cruise" which really isn't correct since they're still going there, just a different region. Still annoying but not as TERRIBLE as it's being made out.
-
From Cruise Hive "Furthermore, Elephant Island, which the ship is visiting for scenic cruising, is a geographic part of Antarctica administered by the Antarctic Treaty. While it is not the continentβs mainland, it very much is part of Antarctica."
-
So the articles and reports online reporting that "NCL drops Antarctica from the itinerary" isn't correct? Seems that way to me. I'd be upset like the rest of them had they switched at the last minute, but they're still technical going to Antarctica.

Norwegian Star Not Going to Antarctica?
bortman23 replied to aussiegirl's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
Technically it's still going to Antarctica (from what I've read). It's now going to Elephant Island, which is not the area they were originally supposed to visit, but it is 100% part of Antarctica. -

Angled balcony on the Getaway question 11182

Just got off the Jan 17-27, 2024 sailing, and was in 11182. Great location and great balcony π -
Everything.. Norwegian Aqua / Prima class #3

What would the reason be for wanting the side with the slides? I assume most people would want to avoid the side with the slide so their balcony does have the slide going through? People lost their sh*t over those slides cutting into the balconies on the Prima/Viva lol. -

We also loved the Prima, warm weather ship for sure, I wouldn't want to do a cold literary. -

Not really surprising, I've never seen any cruise ship charge for a slide, even NCL. No one would use it if it cost $10. -

We love the Prima racetrack, but to each their own. I think more waterslides is probably a better idea for this ship though. -

Saw some news reports saying it should hit some cold water as it heads north this week, and will "likely just be a remnant of a storm by the time it makes it's way to Canada" and even a chance it could head back out to sea without making it to Canada.

Thought the same thing, seems very sus. Kinda hated this review for that reason. Seems like they're just trying to "go with the popular opinion" rather than form their own. -

Reception for Canadian Cell Providers - East Cost Cruisers

Thanks for all who responded. I was mainly asking of times when I'm not in port. Basically I'm debating whether or not I'm going to pay for the unlimited wifi (I'm on NCL so I have the 150min). Our ship leaves on a Wed from Quebec City, with two sea days during the week, where I'll need to be connected for work. I have a great roaming plan that gives me a huge amount of roaming coverage in Canada and the USA. I guess the real question is how far coverage usually extends off shore in Gulf of Saint Lawrence. Thanks for sharing all the coverage maps, seems like I might have to bite the bullet and buy the package even though I only need it for a couple days... TY! -
Hi all, Anyone have experience with cell phone reception in Eastern Canada? I'm Canadian and have a cruise out of Quebec City to NYC. How good or bad is reception while sailing between Quebec, Nfld, NS? I have a plan that give me (basically) unlimited roaming. So I'm wondering if I'll have reception or if there will be dead spots. TY!

Review Spirit May 17-24 Alaska Seward to Vancouver

That's because there's no TSA in Canada π We have the CATSA (Canadian Air Transport Security Authority). I love having Nexus as that gets me expedited security in Canada. -
As @eileeshb mentioned, iMessage for iPhone is something completely different than traditional SMS (aka "texting") which uses a network from a cell company. Recently google rolled out RCS for Android phones in the messages app. All pixel phones should support it now, with other android phones using it depending on the brand etc. It's fundamentally the same as iMessage, but for android. My brother was on a cruise in April and was able to message me (not on a cruise) with no issues. He was in airplane mode with the wifi turned on; but with his internet package turned off. It appears that Android users no longer need to have iPhone envy when on NCL: https://www.androidpolice.com/how-to-enable-disable-rcs-chat-google-messages/

Needs some helpβ¦. Flight was just canceled to get to MIA
bortman23 replied to Ricks's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
Very true. There's no difference to booking on your own, or booking through the cruise line, the only exception is that people expect the cruise line to help them (much the way a travel agent would). Still a crappy situation to be in either way.
