  1. Thanks.. that was the conclusion I'd come to as it didn't mention anything included.. Looks like Cunard grills on QV for me then... Apart from anything else the made to measure dinner jacket/suit has cost me £275 per occasion worn so far
  2. Kind of what I was thinking...trying to justify the 50%+ premium for Cunard. Loved the space on the QM2 - couldn't believe how uncrowded it was (maybe that was partly a Grills thing - but that's only really the restaurant on the QM2, but the whole ship seemed so quiet and it was supposedly at 2500 passengers). Guessing the QV doesn't seem quite as roomy...? Of course, there is the P&O Iona that does the fjords...makes Britannia look like the QV I reckon
  3. Having a browse round cruises from Cunard and P&O for the fjords next summer with a view to booking 2024 when cruises are released. PG suites on QV and around £5700. Suites on P&O are about £3700 (though full fare is £4600) How different is the experience? Really liked QM2 QG recently, and the P&O cruises seem to be on Britannia or similar crowded monsters and their adult only cruises are Norway + Iceland I'm still leaning towards Cunard grills. P&O cabins look bland, but their suites look better proportioned than Cunard PG so QG may be a better comparison (about £6700). And there doesn't seem to be any Grills type dining on P&O As you can tell, I'm new to all this with just the one QM2 crossing under my belt. I do like the Cunard interiors, but have heard that P&O are one of the more classic alternative lines?
  4. I’ve worn a polo shirt (a decent quality fairly new one) in QG restaurant, both with and without jacket. Not a problem.
  5. How do prices vary over time? I know that's probably a "how long is a piece of string" question, and I believe that Cunard use dynamic pricing, but is it generally better earlier or later? A 7 day Norway cruise for next summer is just under £6k for a PG cabin and maybe £7k to £8k for a QG. I guess those are reasonable targets to look out for (plus 10% inflation no doubt) Are there any sites that track pricing over time?
  6. QG was like that trolley in October - only a choice of 4 cheeses though
  7. Has anyone signed up to https://www.cruisedeckplans.com/
  8. Yeah - was going to ask about them! Bit more motion up front...
  9. Ah, good point. Those ones on the corner (e.g. 4089, 4092)...was thinking for the views in the fjords. Anything on those two 4095 and 4097?
  10. Thanks - seems to be the views; will be looking at relative prices of PGs to QGs when they come out, but thinking of ways to save a few ££; PG v QG, P2 v P1, travel agent v Cunard direct... There is Britannia Club of course, but liked QG on QM2 Just the long thin shape of those PGs I'm not totally sold on!
  11. Thanks again... Certainly a few funnies on the plans.. 4095 and 4097 seem 50% larger than normal PGs. Are they disabled cabins? Some PGs have a part forward facing balcony - are these cabins of choice?
  12. Thanks Why higher? Just better views? Wondering why I wouldn't save £200pp on Deck 4... Ah of course, lifeboats are fore and aft of the stack, hence it can be wider. My bad!
  13. Looking to book a cruise on one of these and have seen that PG/QGs are generally in the central, wider, stack. The (slightly) cheaper cabins seem to be on decks 4 and 5 - are the views obstructed by lifeboats? Why are they a bit cheaper? Lower down = better for ship movement... a few more floors up to the restaurant, but there are lifts, so what...? (Had QG on deck 9 on QM2 last month, and the view was just above lifeboats which would be fine for a Norweigian fjord cruise if similar view on QE?) Also noticed that something like a 5% discount is possible through some cruise agents rather than direct with Cunard, and the same add ons are offered (on board credit, or parking, or coach). Any recommendations? Any way to get a little extra if booking early - (in this case Summer 24 when they become live)?
  14. How would they know...? Quite happy with the wines provided in QG...
  15. Ah - that lump at the top of the QE and QV is the grills restaurants etc. I see what you mean about views etc!
  16. Thank you - yes Grills restaurants on QM2 have a nice view of the promenade deck, mostly where it is built in...!! And yes, not a lot to look at mid Atlantic (which is actually quite something in itself); saw a couple of seabirds on Day 5 and a tanker on Day 6 which was quite exciting...
  17. Didn't matter at Southampton - turned up an hour early (as had taken fast cat from IoW) and were on board 15 mins before scheduled arrival time
  18. Looking at a sample cruise on QV to fjords next summer seems that there are many who think like you: QG sold out, PG good availability QM2 grills for me mainly meant the larger room (and larger balcony) and the dining. Wasn't too bothered about the other facilities though I guess a nice grills outside deck would be good for a summer trip (not relevant to an October TA crossing). What are the other grills facilities that are much superior? TIA.
  19. Thank you for the tips - there certainly seem to be different routes on the 7 dayers and can't yet see a 2023 that does Flam Not too worried about ship - be interesting to compare with the QM2, though the PG suites (would probably do grills) don't look as good as QM2 PGs (long and thin). We did QG on QM2 - may look to economise a bit with PG. Any thoughts on ship? The QA trip looked interesting, but I'm guessing it's fairly similar to QE and QV and a fair bit different to QM2 Hamburg is on the list sometime - only been there once years ago for a couple of hours after a business trip to Airbus.
  20. Thanks - will keep alert... early booking worth it or not? I guess it depends, but are there generally any offers? The 11 or 12 dayers in 2023 either seem to go via Hamburg (so are basically a 7 day + Hamburg) or go right up Norway. I'd take Hamburg in one direction as it'd be nice to visit, but not both ways. There seem to be subtle differences in the 7 dayers - what are the must dos... my parents liked Flam when they went on the QM2 15 years ago...
  21. Saw a video by the Tips for Travellers guy on Youtube yesterday... He must spend his life cruising; he's found a nice living! DIdn't realise that some Norwegian fjords are stopping cruise ships from 2025. I had been considering Queen Anne there in spring 2024, but that's been cancelled now (as QA delayed), and there are no other spring/summer 2024 cruises on the Cunard website When are these likely to go on sale? Also, I've only been on one crossing (last month) and I bought that direct from Cunard; what is likely to be the best way to buy a new cruise? There seem to be minor discounts on other cruises from the online agents. I also see that there are 7 day and 12 day cruises to the fjords...I assume the latter are better, but are they worth it? Sorry about all the questions! (We liked the class, quality and uncrowdedness of the QM2 - are there other cruise lines that are similiar-ish? P&O is supposed to be reasonably traditional; is it sacrilege to ask such questions on the Cunard board?!)
  22. Are the QE and QV better than this? It wouldn’t be enough to stop me sailing on the QA, but I did quite like the QM2 promenade deck.
  23. Got back from breakfast on disembarkation day on QM2 and they already converted the double to two singles Two singles don't really work even in a QG cabin
