I agree with you. I miss the old school entertainment. I was on the Veendam in 2014 and 2015. One night there was a singer who had been Christine in "Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway for several years. I loved the music and she had a beautiful voice. The crew shows late at night towards the end of the cruise were terrific. There were songs from Indonesia and the Phillipines. Those were the days!

Years ago on the Veendam, the Captain would sometimes make an announcement that we would skip the next day's port due to weather or if the icebergs were too big. At dinner that night the waiters served glasses of champagne. I said we didn't order it and were told that "it's from the Captain." The port taxes for missed ports were deleted from our account. The cruise director made an announcement that more activities were being added on to schedule because we would be at sea the next day. I miss the Veendam.

Years ago on the Veendam, some people would come to the Lido buffet for breakfast and lunch wearing BATHROBES!! I can see that if you are by the pool, but not at the buffet line. I ate dinner in the MDR, so I don't know if bathrobes were allowed at the Lido buffet after 6 PM. I would hope that was not the case. I enjoy dressing for dinner in the MDR, so I am "old school" like you. I did see one woman wearing jeans with holes in them in the MDR for dinner on a gala night. She was in a Neptune Suite and no one asked her to leave.

Years ago when I was on the Veendam, we were cruising through Prince Christian Sound. I think I was on the Crows Nest deck. The crew came around and served the Dutch Pea Soup. It was the best pea soup I have ever had!
