When did Pinnacle Grill start charging for appetizer?

Agree with you. Quality depends on ship and chef. -
Live: Zaandam Boston to Montreal 8/27 - 9/3
BetsyS. replied to ACorgan's topic in Holland America Line
I got off the Niew Statendam on 8/27. Because I have a peanut allergy, the waiters in MDR gave me the next night's dinner menu after I finished eating. I circled what I wanted on the menu. HAL wants to know about food allergies before you board. If I ate dinner at a specialty restaurant, I mentioned my allergy before I ordered. The wait staff were aware of it. Have a great cruise! -
I agree with you about free laundry being the most important perk. The laundry staff does an excellent job. I never do ironing at home, so on the ship I loved how great my clothes looked. I don't remove the laundry tags. When I see them, they are a happy memory of past cruises.

When I was at Boston terminal on 8/3 before boarding the Niew Statendam, a crew member had several big boxes of Dunkin' Donuts that he carried onboard. I heard that the crew love donuts and that they bought them at Tim Hortons in Canada also.

Thank you. I did give a lot of feedback on Let Us Know, so maybe that's why I didn't get the survey.

I got off the Niew Statendam last Saturday, 8/27. I did not receive survey yet. Before the cruise, HAL sent all emails to my travel agent. She will be out of her office until Tuesday. Did anyone disembarking on 8/27 get the survey? I gave feedback on Let US Know on Navigator app, but I assume I will still get survey. Thanks in advance for any answers.

Years ago on the Veendam, the crew shows were terrific. After the shows ended, the crew lined up as people were leaving and they thanked everyone for coming. HAL should bring those back. Also, my stepfather liked the chilled soups.

Which deck is recommended when you are prone to Seasickness?
BetsyS. replied to ninaks's topic in Holland America Line
I agree. I also recommend Seabands. They are wristbands with a small button that you put near your wrist. It's acupressure. I wear them when the ship is at sea and take them off when I shower. I like them because they're drug free. At Walmart I think price was under $15 for 2 wristbands in a package. CVS cost was a little more. You could probably get them on Amazon too. -
Thank you.

I was given a medallion on my recent Niew Statendam cruise that left Boston on 8/3. I had earned 4 stars on a previous cruise years ago, but they wait until after the end of the cruise that you earned it on. They give it to you on your next cruise. Our room steward brought it to my room. He also gave my stepfather and me tiles. I did not wear the medallion on board.

Agree about Dover Sole in Rudi's Sel de Mer. It was delicious. It was a big piece and the waitress deboned it at the table. I would recommend making reservation asap. I bought 2 of Rudi's cookbooks that that sell - one for me and one for a friend back home. Also agree that the Italian food on this ship is terrific. When my stepfather and I ate at Canalettos, I ordered chicken parmesan. I ordered 1/2 size and it was big enough for me. My stepfather wanted the veal meatballs as an entree, but it was an appetizer. They gave him an entree sized portion. It's good to ask.

HAL vs Princess (2k vs 3,600 passengers) for Alaska
BetsyS. replied to redroses's topic in Holland America Line
I have never been on Princess, but I am currently on the Niew Statendam. There are 2,100 passengers. My stepfather and I have breakfast and lunch in the Lido every day. It takes time to walk around looking for a table because it's very crowded, even on port days. However, the food is good and the crew are very efficient. One day, there were long lines waiting to get on the tender from the ship. All the crew who work on the tenders are very helpful. Almost every shore excursion was sold out before we boarded the ship. By the day after we boarded, all restaurant reservations for both MDR and specialty restaurants were booked solid. My stepfather and I were lucky thst we have the same table and waiters in the MDR every night. I would not want to be on a ship with 3,600 passengers. It would be okay for you if you don't mind waiting on long lines every day. My stepfather and I have enjoyed our cruise. The food is great and all the crew are top notch. -
I am currently on the Niew Statendam. Creme brulee has been on the dinner menu in the MDR every night. If you were on a different ship and it was not on the menu, you should ask for it.

What are your recent boarding time experiences?
BetsyS. replied to CaptJerry51's topic in Holland America Line
Thank you. Good to know. -
Thank you very much. I have paper copies of everything too.

I agree that they should not schedule mariner events on embarkation day before some passengers (who are invited) have not boarded yet. Like you said, some ships have scheduled these for the next day. All the ships should do that.
