  1. Thanks to everyone who posts on the Daily Report! I spent the day reading James Patterson's biography yesterday. It was really good. Today I'm thinking about going for a drive, but it's yet another grey, overcast day, so I might just stay home.
  2. Thank you for everyone who posts amazing info on the Daily Report! So happy to read that Kazu and Scrapnana are both on their way home!!
  3. The drink sounds similar to the way I have hot chocolate on a cold winter's night. Make a cup of hot chocolate and pour in a healthy shot of peppermint schnapps. I think it's call a ski hill, but I know it's good.
  4. I was just about to explain about the salt brine when I read all the other explanations. LOL!
  5. Thank you for the Daily Report and all the contributors. It's minus 1C here today. When dh and I went out to get groceries we noticed that the roads had been sprayed, so I guess they are expecting some bad weather.
  6. Thank you all for the Daily Report. My heart is breaking for @kazu. 3C here today with yet another overcast day. No snow to be seen anywhere and some ditches still have water in them from all the rain earlier this week. We had turkey thighs baked on a sheet pan last night. Not sure what we will have tonight.
  7. It's 3 C and sunny out, but there are clouds in the sky, so I will enjoy the sunshine while it lasts. Cuddles are always a good thing.
  8. Thank you to everyone posting in the Daily Report! I finished sorting out my cross stitch supplies and some works in progress that I want to finish this year. I spent at least 2 hours a day for 6 months working on my dh's Christmas gift, so I didn't work on anything else for the past 6 months. Now I can get back to a couple that are almost finished. The rain finally stopped at some point during the night. When we put the garbage out this morning the patio was almost dry.
  9. The rain hasn't stopped for 2 days here along with being foggy. Right now the east side of our house is being pummeled with what sounds like freezing rain, but it's 3 C right now.
  10. @Rowsby I remember that blog. I think they took numerous cases of wine and (I think) Dr. Pepper. I think her name was Barbie. Pre 2015, if I recall.
  11. Thank you to everyone who contributes to the Daily report. My dh and I have spaghetti once a week. (He is 1/2 Italian.) It's pouring rain here, which is better than snow. Nothing important on our schedule for today other than watering the inside plants.
  12. Thank you to all the people who make the Daily what it is. My dh LOVES fruitcake as long as there isn't any icing on it.
  13. Thank you for all who contribute to the Daily/Fleet report! Another nice day here in our neighbourhood. We had chicken pot pie on New Year's Eve. I spent most of yesterday tidying up my library and that included the area around my recliner where my cross stitch supplies are. I spent a lot of time going through all my floss to see if I was getting low on any colours. It was a very enjoyable day. My dh watched American football.
  14. Happy New Year! Thank you to everyone who makes this thread what it is every day!
  15. Thank you all for the Daily and Fleet report! Thank you for being so welcoming to newcomers to the thread and to these boards. It's currently pouring rain here. Maybe that might have some tourists deciding to stay home instead of coming into Niagara Falls for the New Years Eve fireworks. I don't know if the concert will go ahead or not. There is a map circulating on Facebook for locals to avoid the tourist area. My dh and I will be doing what we have done every year. Staying home and going to bed early. Pretty much what we have been doing since New Year's day of 2020 as I had a major surgery coming up on January 13, 2020 and was told to stay healthy for the 2 weeks before my surgery. I told friends and family that I had to isolate myself. By the time I was able to get out and get back to hanging out with friends, everything was shutting down. Here we are, still isolating 3 years later.
  16. Thank you for the Daily Report. I really want to get out of the house today. I have gift cards for a bookstore, so I've told dh I want to go there. I have a lot of books on my TBR (To Be Read) list that I already have in my library, so I really should read those first. I also need to go to either Walmart or Costco, but I don't really want to go to either of those stores until the kids are back in school.
  17. @puppycanducruisemy DD and her SO drank it with supper. Sorry!
  18. Thank you for the Daily Report! We had an absolutely awesome visit with my dd and her SO. They found a winery that was open yesterday because they wanted to bring a bottle of something. It was the one right across the street from us. Unfortunately my dd bought a red wine. I had a taste and I still don't enjoy red wines.
  19. Everything is done other than making shortbread. I'm waiting for the brownies to come out of the oven. There isn't any alcohol our fruitcake, which is good because dh has been recovering from his addictions since 1999. @sailingdutchy there were 3 highways closed in Ontario yesterday. One in Muskoka, 401 near London and QEW from Niagara Falls to the border. Queenston/Lewiston bridge heading for the states had a 5 1/2 hour wait to go south!
  20. Happy Boxing Day to my fellow Canadians! My daughter and her SO are coming for our Christmas meal today. I need to bake some brownies and make the cranberry sauce this morning. I also need sweep and wash the floors and clean out the kitty litter boxes. Supper will be turkey pieces (nobody likes the white meat, so I just buy thighs and drumsticks) stuffing, scalloped potatoes, carrots and cranberry sauce. A large assortment of cookies for dessert. I also need to take a home made fruit cake out of the freezer. A friend of mine makes them and my husband loves them. IF I have the energy, I might make shortbread cookies. The first attempt was a recipe that I got off the internet that didn't work out very well. It turned out as dry as sawdust.
  21. @ger_77 Happy Birthday!! For those of you that don't know what "A'phabet Day" is, look at the word closely. There is "No L" Kind of like "abcefghijkmnopqrstuvwxyz" on a test in school during the week before Christmas. Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it. We are going out for Chinese food tonight.
  22. Thank you for the Daily Report! It's minus 11 Celcius here. The howling wind hasn't let up at all, so whatever snow is falling isn't really looking like much, but it certainly is white out there, so we will have a white Christmas. I think it makes the outdoor decorations look better. I need to make shortbread and dh would like me to make sugar cookies. My dd is coming on Boxing Day, so I would like to make brownies as well, but they won't last until Monday if I make them now.
  23. For those of you not dealing with the snow storms... think about how cartoons and drawings have little snow drifts in the corners of windows. Mother Nature did that to most of the windows on the north, west and south side of my house today. The wind was blowing too hard on the east side. Also, for those that aren't near any of the international bridges on Lake Ontario and the bridge at Buffalo, they are all closed due to the weather. They are calling it a blizzard due to the winds because there isn't a lot on the ground. Lots of flights are delayed and cancelled. The news showed people at Pearson airport being interviewed. We haven't lost power but there are numerous reports of lines down. We do have a nice cherry/apple and maple fire crackling away in the fireplace, so it's cozy in here and smells amazing!! Plus there are mincemeat tarts and "Chinese" chews on the counter. There was flour and maraschino cherry juice and sugar on the counter earlier, but I don't have a picture.
