  1. After seeing the menu posted by XBGuy above, I will definitely pass. I used to live in San Francisco and frequented Caymus Vineyards regularly. None of the wines paired with the dinner are especially wonderful enough to command that high of price point.
  2. Every bagel place I have ever been to had, and still have, these. I like an egg bagel toasted with butter and great heaping piles of bacon!
  3. I used to worked 30 years in the travel industry (including one cruise line), and my job required me to take frequent cruises (just over 60) and provide detailed reports on the ships and the cruise lines themselves. I then spent 10 years in a police department. During that time, and now that I have to "open my wallet" and pay for my travel, I choose to spend that money with Princess. The style of cruising on Princess suits me....it's comfortable and has a familiarity about it that I enjoy. The overall quality of the food has been extremely good, the entertainment (for the most part) is enjoyable, the prices for the ancillary services are not out of line, the cabins are roomy and generally well taken care of, and they frequently have itineraries to destinations I now wish to travel to. Not to mention the ships' themselves are appointed in a stylish, but not over-the-top gawdy fashion.
  4. God I hope not! I want to get away from all the techy stuff when I'm on a cruise. I only touch my cell phone to snap a few pictures, other than that I'd never even carry it with me on the ship, though I will while on a shore excursion in case of an emergency.
  5. Ahhh....thanks for that. I found it. Can I assume the the DMW reservations/requests cannot be done until final payment is made and closer to sailing date?
  6. I have the Medallion App on my phone, but is it possible to also have it on my laptop? I really much prefer using my laptop to my cell phone. I understand using it on my cell phone while actually ON a cruise, but it would be much more convenient if I could do everything before embarking on my computer.
  7. I thought it might be obvious.....no fries.
  8. OK.....dumb question (or two)....... Can you just keep the Medallion in your pocket like a coin, and will it still work? Or do you have to take it out each time to use it? I don't wear a watch as I don't like anything on my wrists, and I don't want a lanyard dangling around my neck. Soooo......can it be used if it's in your pocket?
  9. Reviews of any given product or service are only useful to you if you've already experienced similar products or services reviewed by that specific reviewer previously. Back in the 80s and 90s in San Francisco there were two very well known restaurant critics in the local newspapers. My wife and I each went to the restaurants they each reviewed and quickly realized that anything critic #1 liked, we hated, and anything critic #2 liked, we liked. Therefore we could reliably count on critic #2 to provide us with the best information. Some unknown person (on here or anywhere else) telling you the food is bad/cold/tepid/putrid/wonderful/tasty etc, on any specific ship or cruise line is absolutely USELESS to you.
  10. If I could just get that tracking app to work for me when my wife goes into a department store I could save enough money for a dozen cruises! 😉
  11. We haven't sailed (on Princess or anyone) since before the pandemic and the before the creation of the Medallion App. All I have to say is WOW! What a glitchy, inconsistent, slow, piece of technology to be forced to use. It's such a bad experience so far, we could very possibly be looking at other cruise brands.
  12. More disappointing than a "disaster." We sailed on the Delta Queen from New Orleans over Thanksgiving week years ago. There was a lecturer on board from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries who did a lecture on the types of fish consumed in Louisiana. It was a VERY interesting lecture but less than a dozen passengers attended. I like to go fishing....so I attended. He noted that they have five species of Catfish in the state and that many people think of Catfish as having a "muddy" taste. He said that issue generally only exists with Yellow Catfish. That day at lunch they had a Catfish Fry which most of us ordered. My fish was VERY MUDDY TASTING!!!! I asked the waiter to check with the chef as to what type of Catfish we were eating. Yep......it was Yellow Cat.
  13. Bagels, like pizza, are a very personal thing. Everyone have their favorites, and everyone have ones that they will NEVER consume. Generally I have not found any bagels on a ship that I truly enjoyed, though the best bagel I found on board a ship was on the Volga Dream during a cruise from St, Petersburg to Moscow in 2007.
  14. Has anyone come across an issue with a bartender on board that will not make a cocktail that they are unfamiliar with, even though they have all the ingredients at the bar?
  15. Reindeer Steak on a Trans Atlantic crossing on the QE2 back in the 90s.
  16. We are generally a three course dinner couple. Though, depending on what soups/salad/appetizers are on offer, we might stretch that to four. My wife almost always will have dessert, but more often than not, I will opt for a cheese course to finish the meal.
  17. I'm going to have to say......none. I know I will be back home again and there will be plenty of time to enjoy those things. While on board (and ashore), I want to try something different, or at least regional or local.
