  1. It may be correct, it may not 🤷‍♀️ Some of these things seem to change depending on who you talk to. That's also not just a Celebrity problem. If I was to bring one, I'd probably chat with someone online so I got a written response, then bring a heating pad that I wouldn't cry over if it wound up in the naughty room.
  2. I've got door decorations for when we sail at Christmas - just a little wooden "Merry Christmas" sign that has a wire hanger. I hang it from a magnet on the door. Honestly, I'm not at all inclined to do cutesy decorations but it's your vacation and it's not harming anyone so what the heck. If someone feels that it is 'tackifying' (yes, made up that word) their vacation then that's their problem. Ducks ... I worked a charity duck race for a few years and although we tried to corral all the ducks, some always went missing. And they wound up in bins around the area, which bothered me. I'd feel the same way about a lot of ducks on a ship. They'll wind up in the garbage.
  3. I was curious about this so looked up the policy. Here's what it says: "Certain items that generate heat or produce an open flame are not permitted onboard. This includes clothing irons, hotplates, candles, incense, and any other item that may create a fire hazard. Curling irons and hair dryers are allowed. " It doesn't expressly state heating pads. My experience has been that my heating pad doesn't get nearly as hot as my curling iron so I suppose one could make an argument that they are much less dangerous than a curling iron. But it would probably make sense to call Celebrity (or better yet, write so you have an answer that you can refer to) to confirm.
  4. Agree that Special Needs is the place to start. If there is a microwave (don't think I've ever seen one in a Celebrity ship?), it's not going to be close by. I would take either a heating pad or those first aid heat pads that activate when peeled.
  5. The peak of the baby boom will hit retirement age this year. This demographic is also the one with the most money to spend, and time to vacation. Not arguing that it would be great to have some free wifi (altho I really enjoy cruises because I have no excuse but to put down my phone), but I don't think ships are going to suddenly be filled with Gen X youngsters like me.
  6. On St Kitts we have had beach day excursions twice (the beach that faces Nevis), a rum tour once, and the last time we took a taxi over to the Marriott and hung out at the resort for the day. The resort was definitely the most relaxing, and not too busy.
  7. Years ago when we lived in the States, I used the Amex concierge service to get tickets to an event. I probably could have gotten the tickets myself, but it would have meant hours on the phone or online so it was worthwhile to have someone else handle it.
  8. After a couple of horrible experiences in 2021 and 2022, I became a carry on convert. The longest I've done is 13 nights on a ship and 5 nights in Europe. Early spring which meant layers and cold weather gear. I don't see myself going back to checked baggage again. The less stuff I have to haul around, the better. But I know it's not for everyone.
  9. Might be best to read Celebrity's policy. The fee depends on where you're a resident of, the length of cruise, and the time until the cruise. Here's a link: Celebrity Cruises Cancellation Policy
  10. We sail on Celebrity and find it's a good fit for us. We aren't into party bands or raucous parties on deck but we also don't want to sleep away the cruise. We like a good meal and a few cocktails with a bit of entertainment. They used to say that Celebrity was a more subdued line and I think that still aligns, Given that you've sailed Disney, you might enjoy the Retreat on one of the Celebrity ships.
  11. Not sure if the original poster will see this as the thread is 4 years old. Don't bother trying to book on the app. Instead, go immediately to one of the Specialty Dining reservation desks and they will help you. There are usually desks close to the area when you embark the ship and also up by the buffet.
  12. Am I interpreting this correctly? With NEXUS I get expedited entry into Canada and the United States no matter where I'm travelling from? That sort of seems like a no brainer.
  13. I checked and read all of the fine print. They must be charging the fee in the conversion. Guess I am gullible enough to believe that they would make the fees apparent. Just came back from a trip to the US and only used my USA issued Amex to avoid the charge. Thanks.
  14. We were able to go out on that deck on boarding day when the Spa had open house.
  15. I'm too lazy to haul things like cases of pop on a ship. We've calculated the costs and what/how much we drink (I drink alcohol, he does not), it's way cheaper to just pay by the drink if you're a moderate drinker.
  16. I've come and gone on CC since about 2009. In general, posts are helpful and there's a lot of good natured conversation. But there are a few people who post a LOT, have very strong opinions and tend to be really snarky in their replies. They think they're funny, but they're not. Thankfully, I can mute those people.
  17. If you're wanting coffee served in your cabin then you'll need to likely book a suite. Maybe look at the Retreat on Celebrity. It's not party city - more sedate but plenty of 50+ year olds who feel younger.
  18. Adding to @jelayne's response. There are also often line dance/dance style activities in the Grand Foyer.
  19. Personally, I love Tuscan. But if there's a LCG on the ship, the weather is good, and I have to choose one, I'll go for the view from the top. We've never had a bad meal at Tuscan.
  20. Depends what you like to eat. Lawn Club Grill is my favourite and I would pick it over Murano any day. (Don't eat most fish or shellfish because of allergies). I also like the atmosphere, especially on a nice evening. My husband would eat at Murano every single night. If you haven't eaten at Le Petit Chef, the food was really good. Definitely worth a visit at least once.
  21. We had an infinite balcony room on Ascent and it was the worst part of the room. Our pros and cons: PRO There's a bit more space CONS: You lose the use of the balcony as a second room. With a regular balcony, one can sit outside while the other sleeps, watches TV, reads, whatever. Even if one sits out with the door closed, once the window is open the AC goes off. Captain locks off the window from time to time for weather reasons and I would like the choice to go out on the balcony to see how conditions are It's not at all a balcony experience. It's like sitting beside an open window. You don't get the outdoor experience. The shade wasn't as room darkening as the old blackout curtains We would downgrade to a OV before booking another infinite balcony.
  22. @Tom and Ingrid summed it up well. On our last repositioning cruise (October), most people were in casual to semi-cocktail dress, but there was a group that dressed every evening. Tuxedos, gowns, the whole bit. They looked fabulous. I would like to dress up more but my husband hates suits, and the tuxedo is at the back of the closet. So it's cocktail-length dresses. And I bring things that are fussy to deal with. If something needs to be pressed, I pay the money and have it pressed.
  23. It's usually very quick. I'm Canadian but husband is American so that complicates things a bit. Last time (a year ago) we basically walked right through. Not guaranteeing this, but this was our experience.
  24. We sailed on Ascent for the Christmas cruise this past December. This was the 4th time we had sailed at Christmas on Celebrity so we had a good idea what to expect. It was impossible to find available times in Specialty Dining except for a few options at 930 PM (too late for us!). Beginning in early October, I tried booking online and I even spoke to Captain's Club. Everything was booked ... We wound up eating in SD only one night (Eden - and it was excellent, worth every penny). As it turned out, the sailing had a number of large families - big groups of 25 or more, and since many of those groups had someone in a suite, they seemed to snag all of the reservations. We've never before encountered this and I don't know if it was because the ship was brand new, or sailing from FLL, or people are still wanting special travel experiences. The downside was that we didn't get a chance to try any of the other SD restaurants. The upside was that we were always able to get a table in Blu the minute we walked in since so many people were dining with families in SD or one of the MDRs. So my suggestion would be to find out exactly when you can reserve and book early. You can always cancel later if your plans change.
  25. I've flown hundreds of times just in the past decade through airports in Canada, the US and Europe and it is VERY CLEARLY announced that you have to remove any medications that you may need. And if you can't hear the announcements then how would you know that they're looking for volunteers to check bags?
