  1. Ok @Bigmike911 and @frankp01 and @Tonopah let’s have fun with this! I have no idea what that looks like on-line but, let’s enjoy our national game together. Who else is watching with us?
  2. I really don’t enjoy these events, but on this last cruise I made a point of sitting down with two ladies with walkers. I had a wonderful time visiting with them and hearing their stories. I’ll share a very sad story now - my parents had two close friends who lived next door and cruised with them. My dad died several years ago, the wife died last spring. The husband has just fallen in love and scheduled an Alaska cruise for next summer. But last night he had a stroke. My mom cried as she told me this morning, “I’m the only one left, I’m so glad we cruised when we were able.” All four of them loved the social events with the officers. Let’s all cruise while we can!
  3. Yeah @Lanky Lad! It is Halifax taken from a Holland America ship berthed directly in front of QM2. My husband immediately went online and read about her and announced we would cruise on her some day. Love Halifax!
  4. @swjumbo I’m comparing the two places by color schemes. I’m comparing the fact that both places have a distinctive color palette. Our neighborhood in the Pacific Northwest has lots of browns, greens, greys. It all blends in with the tall pines and cedars. One of the first things I noticed when I went to San Francisco were houses in lighter colors. Think of Santorini! All of that blue and white - it’s traditional, but the white color also keeps the homes cooler. Stavanger doesn’t need to worry about keeping homes cool by painting their homes white. The example of Bergan posted by @groryjm is another example. Thanks for the post groryjm. Now that I’ve typed this I’m not sure why I took the time swjumbo, I think you knew what I meant.
  5. I need to correct the title of the book in my post above, it is 6 Minutes in May.
  6. @exlondoner Why would you not? Is this logic or conformity? We lived in one housing development that stipulated a color palette. That rule was supposedly about house value and aesthetics. I think about the color palette of San Francisco or the Amalfi coast. Stavanger was all white and I really did wonder why. If you know please share. Painting pebble dash must not be very fun!
  7. This has already been identified, but a different perspective.
  8. @photosg I am wondering how much WWII history was obvious/displayed/explained in Narvik? I’m reading a book 7 Days in May…about Winston’s becoming P.M. and it begins with the situation in Narvik and his nephew being held by the Germans. Also, do you think there is a lack of colorful paint in Stavanger? We’re in the process of choosing a new color for our house, and it would be great to just know your house is going to be white. Perhaps there are city rules that state all houses on these 2 blocks must be white. And, how would such a tradition begin? If your house is surrounded by white snow it won’t appear? Your house looks like every other house, conformity is a good thing. Imagine telling a visiting fried, “Ah, our house is the 2nd white house after the first stop sign.” Little kids in class being asked to draw a picture of their house. Those poor blue and green crayons! 🙂
  9. I wonder when I will receive a copy of this magazine? Perhaps after I sail. Thank you for answering.
  10. @Host Hattie There be bears there! 46 days until I’m onboard. Lunch may have to wait until I have a bear in hand. What’s with the dogs? Thank you @photosg.
  11. @Tonopah Glad you’re getting everything ready for Thanksgiving, it will make your life simpler later. Have a great time and keep us informed if you can.
  12. DH and I discussed this over dinner last night. It all depends upon what is on the $12.00 limited list. I’m going to search the threads for the latest list. If I can’t find one then we’ll wait until we’re on board having a pint in the pub and make a decision. Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and keep them coming.
  13. Please excuse my posting here, but we just got a call from the concierge regarding what they can do for us…isn’t that nice? We have the drinks package with the $12.00 limit, if I order a glass of wine that costs $14.00 do I pay $14. or do I pay $2.00? Thanks.
  14. @Victoria2 Thanks for letting me know to order many days ahead for the Peking Duck. It is one of my favs and my mouth is watering thinking about it.
  15. We went between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for worst air on the earth yesterday. Today is no better. We went from red dots to purple, and the current rate is 201. Looking forward to the rain tomorrow.
  16. @Bigmike911 Astros vs. Yankees. Hmmm. Your Astros may be able to beat them.
  17. @Host Hattie I get my booster and flu on the 28th, it was really hard to find an opening to get it. There are forest fires burning in our area, and usually the rain clears out the smoke. We’ve been in air alerts for several days. The kids can’t go out and play and even watering the lawn made my DH cough. Rain is on the way on Friday. Red dots are bad.
  18. @buchanan101 So great to hear from you! We are in cabin 9052 in December. Take care of it for us and please tell us more. 🙂
  19. You got your Bloody Mary! Hurrah! Just what you needed for that Eggs Bennie. As I looked through the food pics I made a mental note: kippers, avocado salad, scallops, Beef Wellington. I need to check the calendar for our countdown. Thanks so much for posting all of the beautiful pictures.
  20. I bet she’d prefer a cuddly Cunard Bear. Enjoy her!
  21. Oh Bigmike911, that was quite a game. Your team is very good and simply played better than we did. This series was best of 5, so we are out. @Bigmike911 do you want to play the Yankees or Cleveland? I was sorry to see the Braves lose to the Phillies. Guess I’ll be rooting for the Padres.
  22. That is a most impressive bar. Did you bring your own bitters?
