  1. Hi No168, I suggest you get the Geo Blue Trekker (Multi-Trip) Essential or Choice plan for your trips outside the USA that aren't longer than 70 days for any one trip. The Essential and Choice plans cover pre-existing conditions. Based on your age 59, the prices for one year are $151 or $175 respectively. You may see all the Geo Blue Trekker plan details here: https://tripinsurancestore.com/geo-blue-trekker-travel-medical-plans/ Steve Dasseos

  3. Hi rmemmer, Unless your airfare is bought as part of cruise, I generally don't recommend insuring the airfare cost if you didn't take this trip and would you likely re-use your airfare for a different trip. And, as Babr stated "Cost is based on a variety of factors such as age, amount insured, length of trip, and levels of coverage so I can’t tell you how much per day." Steve Dasseos
  4. Hi peacefulsiren, It's likely not worth getting and annual plan for just two trips a year since you are getting less coverage on relatively important coverages. Steve Dasseos
  5. Hi 0106, For starters, are you mainly looking for coverage should he get ill or injured on your trip? Or, do you also want Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption coverage (these include Emergency Medical & Evacuation coverage)? Emergency Medical & Evacuation coverage is a lot less expensive than Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption coverage because you wouldn't be getting your money back that you paid for the trip. Once you have that the answer, respond back here and I'll tell you what to do. Steve Dasseos
  6. Hi NorthStarStateCruiser, You're welcome. FYI for others reading this thread, I answered their questions. Since the answers vary depending on the exact plan, I won't be giving every possible answer in this topic. Steve Dasseos
  7. Hi BigWaveDaveAZ, I'm sorry you went through all of that! First, if you used a travel agent, are they helping you with your claim and explaining the coverages? > While we were deciding what to do, we contacted NCL, explained the situation and they offered to fly us to our first port which would have been Charlottetown Prince Edward Island, another problem with that was, the ship had 2 days at sea before it would arrive at Charlottetown PEI. I don't know which exact policy you have, but on this page https://www.ncl.com/freestyle-cruise/booksafe there is this: "What Happens If My Flight Is Delayed And The Ship Sails Without Me? Get up to $500 toward additional accommodations, meals and catch up transportation expenses if you are delayed due to inclement weather, strike, mechanical failure and other reasons as cited in the BookSafe Travel Protection Plan." I suspect AON won't pay a Trip Interruption claim because NCL offered to fly you to Charlottetown and your decision to return home after the airline's delay isn't a covered reason. Next, if you want to email me a copy of your policy's Certificate of Coverage, I'm happy to look it over and tell you what is and isn't covered. steve@tripinsurancestore.com Steve Dasseos
  8. Hi zzdoug, If the ship's doctor advised you cut your trip short and return home early due to your illness that started on your cruise, then the Trip Interruption benefits would cover you. Steve Dasseos
  9. Hi NorthStarStateCruiser, The Missed Connection isn't as big a benefit as it appears if you are using the same airline all the way from home to your destination. And, the reasons to trigger the coverage are different. Sometimes the Trip Delay kicks in, too. Before I answer your other questions, I'd like to know which policy you have. Will you email me the Certificate of Coverage to steve@tripinsurancestore.com and tell me who you are? Also, this page might help you: https://tripinsurancestore.com/travel-insurance-trip-delay-and-missed-connection-coverage/ Steve Dasseos
  10. Hi NorthStarStateCruiser, Not all plans allow this, but mine do. When your trip is farther in the future and you are paying it in stages, an option to consider is this: You would not have to pay for the insurance in full immediately upon purchase in order to get the pre-existing conditions and Cancel For Any Reason coverage. All our plans you buy after your initial trip deposit date allow "pay as you go" which means you insure your deposit now and as you prepay more trip costs, you must increase the insurance coverage any time (as long as nothing has happened where you would file a claim) before but not later than 14 days of adding any additional trip costs above what has been insured to keep the pre-existing conditions coverage. This does not result in any extra costs, just the incremental price increases. You have to insure the deposits even if they are refundable. The prices are locked in at your ages and the rates that were in effect when you bought it. I can't say why my competitors don't encourage the "pay as you go", but doing it this way is a lot better for your Cash Flow. From my customer's point of view, I don't see any benefit to pay the full travel insurance premium in advance for Trip Cancellation Travel Insurance coverage you don't need because you have a low risk of loss today? Steve Dasseos
  11. Hi romasi, Do you have a mailing address in the USA? If so, I have two plans that will cover you. Steve Dasseos
  12. Hi haynesra, If you ask your current health plan, it's likely they will say they pay primary. However, if you get a travel insurance that says it's Primary or First Payer, then you can submit medical to it first so it pays as Primary. Depending on your ages and what your current health plan is, you might not be better off allowing travel insurance to pay as Primary. Look at this page for more specific information and other scenarios: https://tripinsurancestore.com/how-primary-and-secondary-travel-insurance-medical-coverage-works/ Steve Dasseos
  13. Thank you @LauraS for your inviting me to do another Q & A here at Cruise Critic. This is the 7th one I have done and they are fun to do. If you are a United States resident and want to know anything about how a Trip Cancellation or a Medical Travel Insurance plan works, you may ask me here. I don't sell all companies because I only offer pre-screened companies, but I know how all the other plans work. In addition to what insurance companies offer, there are also plans from Travel Suppliers (cruise lines and tour companies). They are technically known as “pre-departure waiver / protection” plans that include elements of insurance to pay claims for accident and sickness medical benefits and evacuation / medical transportation. I cover these differences in detail here: https://tripinsurancestore.com/travel-insurance-vs-travel-supplier-waiver-plans/ Some of my past Q & As are archived on Cruise Critic, too Here's the Cruise Critic Q & A earlier this year: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/2558-qa-cruise-insurance-with-steve-dasseos-of-the-tripinsurancestorecom-jan-22/ Here's the archived link to the Q & A I did in Dec 2020 and Jan 2021 that was re-opened in June 2021: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/2500-qa-cruise-insurance-with-steve-dasseos-of-the-tripinsurancestorecom-read-only/ I also did a Q & A on Cruise Critic for June 2020: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/2484-qa-cruise-insurance-w-steve-dasseos-of-the-tripinsurancestorecom-june-2020-read-only/ Steve Dasseos
  14. Hi Mitina, > If we book a new cruise with these vouchers, can the entirety of the vouchers plus any additional cash outlay be insured? You can't insure the 25% bonus, but you can insure what's equal to the cash you paid. I wrote about this on my Blog 4 months ago: https://tripinsurancestore.com/blog/how-to-insure-a-future-cruise-or-travel-credit/ Steve Dasseos
  15. Hi deec, Do the vouchers represent money you had paid or any bonuses you received from Viking? If any are bonuses, you can't insure bonuses. Steve Dasseos
  16. Hi jclinard, > When I've asked if I'm incapacitated and unable to call the insurance people before medical treatment in order for them to pay (many people have noted they didn't follow that and were denied claims), I get silence on what I'm supposed to do. I'm sorry you weren't ever given an answer on this question. Not all travel insurance plans work the same way. Many of the travel medical only plans have "pre-certification requirements" while trip cancellation travel insurance plans don't have these same requirements. While I cannot speak for all travel insurance plans, all the trip cancellation travel insurance plans I know well will cover needed medical treatment whether or not you contacted the insurance company prior to treatment or not. Steve Dasseos
  17. Hi CruisingAlong4Now, > If it is primary, it will quite often guarantee or pay the deposit required by many foreign hospitals. If it is secondary, you will probably have to post cash bond yourself or accept an immediate charge on your credit card before getting treated in some ports. This isn't true. Primary (First Payer) isn’t better than Secondary (Excess). The only difference is the order in which the medical claims are paid. I know Primary and Secondary plans that will advance payment to a medical facility if needed to secure Your admission. And, I don't know any plans whose policy wording states that they will guarantee payments or deposits required medical facility. Trip cancellation travel insurance plans are “indemnification” plans (you will be reimbursed – indemnified) after your trip by the insurance company. Trip cancellation travel insurance is not a “pay on behalf of” plan. You don’t just give the medical facility a card. In some cases, a few companies can advance payment to the medical facility, but it’s on a case-by-case basis. I cover this in more detail here: https://tripinsurancestore.com/how-primary-and-secondary-travel-insurance-medical-coverage-works/ And, the Cruise Critic editors have let me do six multi-month long Q & As in the last 5 years. Here's the Cruise Critic Q & A earlier this year: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/2558-qa-cruise-insurance-with-steve-dasseos-of-the-tripinsurancestorecom-jan-22/ Here's the archived link to the Q & A I did in Dec 2020 and Jan 2021 that was re-opened in June 2021: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/2500-qa-cruise-insurance-with-steve-dasseos-of-the-tripinsurancestorecom-read-only/ I also did a Q & A on Cruise Critic for June 2020: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/2484-qa-cruise-insurance-w-steve-dasseos-of-the-tripinsurancestorecom-june-2020-read-only/ I hope this helps you. Steve Dasseos
  18. Hi Tom, You need to call them and ask if this is true when you are traveling outside the USA. Steve Dasseos
  19. Hi bones774, I haven't found an Annual Trip Cancellation plan that is good enough for me to sell. And, the Geo Blue isn't available to NY residents. Steve Dasseos
  20. Hi Tom, I've never seen a medical claim over $74,000 nor an evacuation claim for over $127,000. In order to give you more accurate advice, are you covered by Medicare with a supplement you bought on your own, have Tricare or are on a former employers' retiree health plan? Or do you have Advantage plans? Steve Dasseos
  21. Hi spikemom, Did you ask whoever you bought your travel insurance from? They should be helping you. Steve Dasseos
