  1. I was on the 7/8 sailing out of Barcelona and booked the 7:30 tender ticket (7:30 is the earliest tender) right after I boarded on Sunday. The actual day in Cannes, I was in line with several people that boarded in Rome that did not have the early tender tickets, but they were told by shore ex staff to go down early and go “stand by”. Everyone that was waiting near me got on the early tender.

I was gold on this sailing (hit platinum on the last night) but found it easier to book a ticket since I was able to do so. You can book the tickets through iConcierge or your TV in the cabin.

  2. Thank you all so much. Going to Alaska in May 2019 with my friend and her husband and they will have balcony cabin. So I'm look at the studio & inside.

I’ve stayed solo in studios and insides (it was last minute and cheaper than a studio as there was no solo supplement). The insides are barely bigger than the studios, and you have access to the studio lounge when you stay in the studios. Unless the inside is cheaper, go with the studio.

  3. Wow - that's crazy. Wonder what the issue is, and if it's always like that. So did you get lunch and beach upgrade for free? Nativeways didn't charge you the extra did they?

It’s not always like that. I was on the Escape 12/9-16 and had no issues tendering. Walked right on in GC around 2:30; waited maybe ten minutes in GSC. Maybe it was due to the larger crowds on a holiday sailing?

  4. Be advised my son was wearing dress shorts with nice shirt and he was told no entry on Spirit ...so do wear slacks for main dining room ...it is not as freestyle as you think

We did go to other dining room ...Truthfully I was surprised by this ....so even dress shorts were not welcome

On Spirit, shorts are not allowed in the Windows MDR and Le Bistro. Shorts are allowed in the Garden Room MDR and all other dining venues. This is consistent with the other ships in the fleet - one dining room and Le Bistro do not allow shorts, while shorts are allowed in all other dining locations. This info is noted each day in the Freestyle Daily.

  5. Am I the only one that doesn't get the hype? I bought a Vibe pass on the Escape last November. I hardly used it. It was ferociously windy, and I wanted to spend time at the pool. I guess if I planned to be in a lounge chair all day it would be worth it, but I've never had an issue finding a chair, even if it's not directly next to the pool. I won't rush to buy passes next time I'm on a ship that offers Vibe (and I'll be platinum). Obviously, others feel differently, but it won't ruin your cruise if you aren't able to get Vibe passes [emoji4].

  6. I keep seeing that it takes 90 minutes to get from Rome to the port...is this via train? I was on the Spirit last month, and I used 90 minutes as the guideline when planning our transportation since I read that over and over on CC. It took 45 minutes from our hotel near the Vatican to get to the port on a Thursday morning at 10:00. Upon disembarking the ship, it took 45 minutes to get from the port to the airport at 8:30 on a Sunday morning. We had private cars both trips. Our drivers didn't drive crazy, either [emoji2]. Did I luck out?

  7. I sailed the week after Thanksgiving on the Epic in 2014 and on the Escape in 2016. In both cases, the crew was decorating the ship as we were debarking the ship in Miami, so no decoration were up during our cruises.

On an additional note, I was also on the Epic 12/31/11-1/7/12...they were taking down the decorations as we were debarking the ship in Miami.

  8. You still don't have luggage your luggage? What does AA say? I did a ten day Med cruise earlier in the month and my friend made fun of me for having a carry on and checked bag. Stories like yours are why I do it!

Thanks for the review. I plan to do this cruise out of Barcelona next summer, also solo (unless I meet Mr Wonderful between now and then hahahaha).

  9. I was just on the Spirit in the Mediterranean that used multiple busses per excursion. They instructed one person in each group to hold the tickets so they could keep groups together. If there were only 6 spots left on a bus, they would assign the 8 of you to the next bus and fill in with smaller groups. A couple times they were looking for solos to fill in the busses. This is only applicable if there are multiple busses. Other excursions may require you to work it out with the tour operator. There's nothing special to do when booking; it's when you do your actual excursion that they assign where you will be. Best bet to ensure you stay together is to get to the meeting location early so you're one of the first ones there.

  10. Yes, carrying prescription drugs in your carry-on is standard protocol for travel. I keep my ibuprofen on me. You can buy it on the ship, but it's crazy expensive. Ultimately it's up to you if you want to take OTC meds and vitamins in your carry-on. I would. The vitamins wouldn't be easily replaced, and depending on the OTC med, it may not be available on the ship. Rule of thumb...if it's important/valuable and not easily replaced or you will need it before you get your luggage, put it in your carry-on.

  11. I was also on this cruise. I thought it was great! No, the ship isn't the best ship I ever sailed, but I thought she was kept up well. I met several crew members that went above and beyond. Food was great, bartenders great, my OV cabin was great. We had a minor maintenance issue in the bathroom that was fixed within 15 minutes of my BF calling.

We did not find the kid's club outstanding. My BF's 12 year old son was bored. He wanted to do the 13-17 year old activities lol.

I was not impressed with the entertainment; the singers were downright bad.

All in all, this was a magnificent cruise! I came back to get bronchitis (started on the ship) and flooding in my basement (I live in the north Chicago suburbs).

  12. I was on the 6/29 sailing. I'm so excited for you...I had a fabulous time! I never had any desire for a windbreaker or jacket. It was still warm at night on deck, and they don't freeze you on the inside as many ships do. Enjoy! You will love this cruise!
