  1. Is it always carriage 5? In any case, I'm following this thread and I'm adding it to the list of threads that I've started for our British Isles Explorer cruise next year. This is going to be a big help when I start planning our post-cruise adventure. I am sure I will have more questions once I do more than just skim.
  2. TL, you are losing track of time. Believe it or not but those Welcome Back cruises were almost 2 years ago, 2021. <TL smacks forehead -- and laughs> Time sure flies when we are having! 🥴
  3. Let us know how it works out! We used Uber for the first time while in Cairo this past January. I would love to hear how it works out for you in Bergen before I feel comfortable about using it in Bergen.
  4. If budget is an issue, it can be done on your own (with caveats) -- and that is talked about on the thread I linked to above.
  5. You are asking a very subjective question. Better how? What kind of information are you looking for? see also: Flam railway excursion availability
  6. You can buy Viking transfers. Usually they are $49pp but double check with Viking. As long as you have a flight on disembarkation day, you can buy them. The airport bus stops just a few block away as well. Lots of choices.

  8. I have in other threads that If you need a taxi at disembarkation time, you should arrange for it in advance.
  9. Also check out the Ports of Call/Europe section of these boards. The audience there is much bigger and you have a greater chance of getting a response. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/8-europe/ Viking has just begun to use Chioggia, so information may be sparse here.
  10. Keep checking MVJ. People change their minds. People have to cancel last minute. Viking does not keep a waiting a list and does not announce if seats become available. It is fist come first served. If you can only get one seat, take it. Then contact Viking (tellus@vikingcruises.com) to see if you can get a second. If you can't get one immediately, you still have until to 8 days before you board to cancel the one seat.
  11. You can always cancel the GL tour if there is space for you on the Viking tour. Even if there are no openings on the day booking opens, you can continue to check back to see if anyone has changed their mind. Just remember that MVJ closes to transactions one week before you board -- and GL has a cancellation cut off as well.
  12. That was our stop as well. Red X marks bus stop #8. You can even see the bus stopped in the driveway.: And here is where it stops at the port (Skarfabakki). The building marked 'Cruise terminal' was a retail location when we were there two years ago. The private buses pull up in this parking lot. Viking's buses will be elsewhere. I believe that this is the bus stop no matter which berth the ship is assigned -- but you you might want to double check that with the folks at GrayLine. The red line is the path you will probably take off the pier and to the bus.:
  13. Hobson, I did the Golden Circle tour with GrayLine. We were picked up luggage and all at the ship and then dropped at the bus stop near our hotel at the end of the tour. No problems. Loved the tour. Thought they did a great job -- and for half the price of what Viking is charging (but no meal included in the price). I suggest that if you want to contact them that you e-mail them directly and not try to contact them via FB. The couple of times that I did contact them, I got a prompt and helpful reply. https://grayline.is/contact
  14. Excellent point! I would like to suggest that anyone who wants to learn more about cell phone service on cruises should check out the Cruising Technology forum here on Cruise Critic: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/677-cruising-technology/
  15. As dd57 says, Viking is clarifying the existing policy. Maybe there has been some confusion as to how things work and they want to make sure that everyone is in the loop. It is not a new policy but it has never really been publicized: MVJ closes for all transactions -- cancellations and new purchases -- one week before you board. If you are thinking of cancelling a shorex on Day 1 or 2, you have to do it before MVJ closes to transactions because tours have to be cancelled no less than 2 days in advance. Maybe they have been having trouble with folks not understanding how things work, so they are sending out reminders. Now they can say, we sent you a reminder. We explained the policy. Not our problem that you didn't read the e-mail. No refund.
  16. But what is the current rate for what you have?
  17. Yes, but the road won't be quiet -- the motor bike will take care of that! 😁
  18. Agreed. Let's get back to helping newbies find their way through the Viking maze.
  19. And I bet they were in driving distance of the port.
  20. BUT, a reminder for those who, like me, don't keep location on all the time, you do have to turn on LOCATION to make this work. I know, stating the obvious, but there is at least one person reading this who is saying, "Wow! I didn't know you could do that."
  21. You have asked one of those crystal ball kinds of question. Only Viking can answer your question and experience tells us they won't.
  22. Oh I definitely know how that works! Only, I'm not limited to late night.
  23. @CurlerRob if we have been asked for recommendations (and we have been in this thread), we may name names and it may be done in this forum. Another place to find recommendation for tour companies is in the Ports of Call forum, where the conversation is not segregated by cruise line and you get many more people answering questions. What we are not allowed to is to post unsolicited recommendations, because that is considered advertising. Also note that the only place to solicit tour shares is in the roll calls.
  24. Loved it 2021. Glaciers up close and personal. A relaxing ride through the country. The Icelandic landscape is fascinating and I don't mind long bus rides. They do stop along the way for a bathroom break and a chance to stretch your legs.
