  1. Not me, but definitely others, year after year. Listen if RRI is your preferred brand if motel, that’s fine, but if I literally had a ton of other choices, I might stay somewhere else.
  2. I’m not talking old towels, I’m taking prostitution and drug dealers, dirty, police arrests. Someone mentioned the Hotel Hershey which is $$$$ and a nice vacation, there are literally hundreds of clean and affordable and safe places to stay along the way. No need to start a vacation with scabies and bed bugs.
  3. I don’t think the OP would’ve been eligible for a refund or a FCC in this case. The ship sailed, for the time it was supposed to, port changes don’t allow for a cancellation on the consumers end.
  4. My 14 year old daughter was asked to leave, her 16 year old sister was allowed to stay. Both were competitive athletes (xc, track, soccer, dance), and my 16 year old is 4 inches shorter. They were surprised.
  5. I could write a book with the information I’ve learned since our first cruise, which is why I originally assumed the OP was a new cruiser, but this isn’t the case. I do fell sorry for new cruisers who don’t realize the differences between a cruise vs. a land vacation (like ending up in Canada on a Bermuda cruise).
  6. Every plan due to weather is a last minute plan (I’m assuming they assess all of their options, and all of the other lines are making the same changes). If you choose to cruise, you know that there can be port changes, trip extensions or shortening, that’s the industry.
  7. It cost about $5 pp (7 of us), no restrooms (we had day passes to Atlantis and RIU when we went).
  8. We left our five kids home on our first cruise (ages 9, 7, 4, 2 and 2) and it was amazing! All kids are different, #1 would’ve been fun on a cruise, #2 a nightmare. My kids were all eating table food at 1. I’d definitely get a balcony for nights and naps. I think you’d have a better time without a toddler, all of our kids were left behind at some point (diapered kids especially).
  9. At 2 of my kids’ colleges there are red roof inns right by campus. Folks are warned to sleep in their cars if that’s the only reservation available (at homecoming, family weekends and graduation that is often the case, this is in DE and SC).
  10. The OP is going on a 12 nighter (I actually went back to make sure the cruise wasn’t presidents week, which will have tons of kids).
  11. I’d call the hotel and ask if they could give you taxi information, I’m sure you could take one from the hotel to the cruise port. Back before Uber we’d call for a taxi to get to the airport.
  12. If it’s a weekday you will be in rush hour as well.
  13. Was just at a gathering this weekend, we all agreed that tipping in advance is definitely a bribe, and well worth it in certain situations. I’ve found the practice very effective at open bar situations. On cruises we just tip $1 of 2 with each drink since we frequent several different bars.
  14. It’s been a while since I had little ones, but I’m pretty sure you have to drop and go at the kids clubs after the first day, parents aren’t allowed in for security reasons.
  15. I’d choose the Gem, love the Great Outdoors area and spinnakers lounge, both great places to get away from the crowds during the day. I also think the MCT gets too crowded with the big ships, on our cruise on the BA my kids sat on the floor.
  16. With a maximum of 8, RCL doesn’t expect up to 8 people sitting in the cabanas all day, of course folks will be coming and going.
  17. Vapes were invented with nicotine as another way to inhale nicotine.
  18. Yes, I think you would get a refund. Some of my kids at that age chose not to eat off of the kids menu.
  19. They are lined up and begging you to get in their taxi (we are a family of 7 and two guys argued over us).
  20. Why not save time and money and take an Uber, it will cost the same or less and it’s only a 20 minute drive.
  21. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that week coincides with a big vacation week for NJ students. Some kids have off that week, in our district schools are closed Tuesday for Election Day, and Thursday and Friday for NJ teachers convention. Not a lot of learning goes on since many parents pull their kids for the week (that was always our week to cruise with the kids).
  22. Healthy people sometimes need expensive medical attention. Both my 19 year old son and myself have hard emergency appendectomies in the past 5 years, he also had a horrible ankle break requiring surgery. We rarely get sick.
  23. NCL will bring an iron and ironing board to your cabin.
