  1. Sorry to waste your time, I can still read your words but have only the vaguest understanding of what you mean. I have no idea how wifi calling works, I don't think I've ever done it, I wouldn't know how to try. I don't use FaceTime, I had no idea it's a separate app. Email is enough for me. Maybe someone who does understand what you mean can chime in with a reply?
  2. I can read the words in your reply but they still don't mean much to me, is that how FaceTime (which I never use) works? But then, the thing I hardly ever do with my phone is make actual phone calls, I do everything by email. So, sorry, still can't help!
  3. In the past (the old locks) I went through a few times on a Panamax ship - you could actually reach out from the promenade deck and touch the lock side. I was in total awe of the technology and skill that squeezed the ship into the lock, so close but never touching the sides or lock gates.
  4. Sorry, never think of calling anyone when cruising, and don’t really understand the question anyway, so can’t help you there.
  5. You can't buy it ahead of time, you choose what you want when you first make your sign in and password after boarding. Regular wifi is free to all for one device per person, or you can for a fee ($50 I think) add more devices. Premium wifi is free for silver suites and above, or it is about $20 per day if you choose the full cruise option, or $30 for a 24 hour period. This for up to 6 devices per person. For this you will get (approx): Regular wifi - old 0.6 Mbps, Starlink 2 Mbps Premium wifi - old 2 Mbps, Starlink 8 Mbps. On regular wifi heavy bandwidth or streaming sites eg YouTube used to be blocked - dunno about on Starlink.
  6. At least your trip home next time should be a lot easier! It was great to meet you both on the Moon, maybe we’ll share a ship and trivia again sometime.
  7. Nobody can help you yet, she’s too new, not in service till August so no one has sailed on her yet. Come back later in the year and ask again. BTW, it’s Silversea.
  8. Ouch. That's a shame. I'm boarding June 14th heading up to Nordkapp and love to eat outside ... I guess I may have to rethink that.
  9. Stumbles, I didn’t think you were that cheap. This is a woman who wants to put nasty yellow plastic ducks on the ship. And thinks we’ll be OK with that.
  10. Oh dear. If I found a nasty little yellow plastic duck imposed on the ship it would go straight in the trash.
  11. I agree it can be challenging to find what you are looking for on the SS website, but this ("General Information") is the page that will answer many of your questions if you follow the links: https://www.silversea.com/travel-informations/general-information.html This is the FAQs page: https://www.silversea.com/travel-informations/faq.html They can be found if you start at the SS main page, scroll all the way down to the black bit at the bottom, and look under "Travel Information".
  12. Back in November, Bruno was promoted from assistant CD to CD on the Dawn despite being a bit young and nervous about it. The Dawn needed a new CD because Vicki, who had been it, was going off to do the world cruise on the Whisper - and despite all we know and like about Vicki, she was VERY nervous about doing that!
  13. You might be interested in this recent article advising against using Vueling. The Guardian is a reputable UK newspaper. https://www.theguardian.com/money/2023/may/08/vueling-cancels-our-flight-to-florence-then-ignores-a-refund-request
  14. At the port. SS no longer send the 'Silver Box' by mail or courier, that was how you received the luggage tags. The cost of sending a great big and subsequently useless box always seemed an unnecessary waste to me, one good result of Covid.
  15. All of the above are available on an SS TA. Maybe bridge lessons. Table tennis, shuffleboard. Wine tastings. Probably all sorts of spa and keepy fitty stuff but I don't do those so I don't know.
  16. King John caused much of the mess.
  17. As you say, there isn't a comfortable contraction of UK citizen, so we mostly call ourselves Brits even if it's not absolutely completely accurate.
  18. I have sailed both and as far as I can tell, the only physical difference you might notice is that the Moon only has USB A charging ports in your cabin, while the Dawn has both USB A and USB C. And currently the Moon has rather more than the Dawn (though still not a lot) of books in what they laughingly call a 'library' . Otherwise it's difficult to remember which one you are on, they are the same.
  19. The last two cruises I have been on, Nov and Mar, mask wearing for pax has been at their own discretion. Crew had to wear them for the first five days if they were newly boarded, then they were freed if they tested negative. SS are soooooo slow at updating their website/emails.
  20. It’s a shame that Muse class deck 11 is mostly so narrow, it sets up walkers/joggers and sunbathers for conflict. Just a bit wider, as on the Spirit, would have made it more comfortable for everyone. I’m a bit concerned about the Nova class …
  21. Of course you can run on the jogging track. It’s not very wide though so it’s important that everyone - running, walking, sunbathing, standing around chatting - is aware of and considerate to everyone else. One can live in hope …
  22. To the OP, Firstly, ignore Stumbles, that's what we mostly do. (Although he's absolutely delightful in person) As for tender versus dock - no, you won't find that info on the SS website. You can sometimes infer it from excursion descriptions but not reliably. I was on the Wind doing the Norway itinerary in 2019 and as far as I recall the only tender port was Flam. I remember that well because the tendering got a bit messed up and we missed the train which is of course the main attraction at Flam. So that gave me the excuse to do the itinerary again and I am on the Dawn June 14th this year, hoping for better luck. One problem with tendering versus docking is that ships are at the mercy of port authorities and if dock space is limited and there are several ships, a ship may have to tender when most times they would have docked. Generally this is known to the cruise line ahead of time but they don't always publish it in case it changes last minute and they have disgruntled pax. Norway is a maritime nation so tends to have good docking facilities. I haven't done the Baltic so can't help you there.
  23. Hi Ann, Is it lying on it's side because it's a Sea Day so it's resting? Hope you're still loving your 54 days. B
