  1. OK I just knew someone would ask me this question  ....well it might be because DH & I just want "privacy" . Please don't suggest to us not to answer the door ..we wouldn't ....we would not want to explain why we didn't answer the door if friends casually asked..since they knew we were there. Very embarrassing.

???.....So if anyone knows for sure if this device can be turned off & on during the cruise ...it would be very much appreciated to have the answer.

    Thanks in advance .

Hello and Happy Sunday. I did not mean to scare you or creep you out with this technology. Suggest you go to youtube and watch the CEO of Carnival at Jan 2017 CES in Las Vegas. It is about an hour video and explains everything you want to know about the Medallion program; how it works, what it can and can't do. Have you been to Disney World this year; if so, they use this technology there.

  2. Thanks for the info. We do drink but not enough to make a AIBP work for us so we will probably make good use of what's in the mini bar. lol. We have thoughts of purchasing the Unlimited Soda & More package, though. Thanks for spelling it out. These are some nice benefits. Are the cocktails in the elite lounge free or reduced price?

Funkat, we never visited the elite lounge which is located in Skywalkers. We had our two grandkids with us; and didn't feel like leaving them while we went to lounge. I am sure someone on this thread has used the elite lounge and can tell you what they offer. The unlimited soda package will get you fountain soda; you will not get a can of coke; you get the fountain drink. My wife and I bought this package before and did not care for it. A lot of the times the fountain soda tasted funny like it was watered down. I guess that has to do with the carbonation from the fountain. The coffee card gets you unlimited regular coffee from int'l café; and fufu drinks like frappacinio's. My wife would get a chai tea latte every day. Hope this helps.

  3. Shutterfly is one cloud photo service that won't delete any pictures; even if you don't buy anything from them. We usually make photo books from our travels so we may buy something twice a year; but use their storage for everything[/quote

I have a few albums uploaded to Shutterfly, and occasionally make a photo book or framed print as gifts. I didn't realize their storage is unlimited, and that you can upload automatically.

I started the automatic upload from my iPad, and it looks like it will be going for a few hours as it uploads around 3000 pictures! :o

Since I don't have a "right click" on my MacBook track pad (at least I don't think I do!), I tried to copy and paste, but was unsuccessful. (When I select it in my album, I can't find a copy/paste option.) I was able to select a picture, then go to share - create a new share site - and then drag that version of the picture onto a Cruise Critic posting. (I copied photos of my Seattle Port Valet information sheet onto that thread). So it took several steps, but I was able to copy the photos.

Sorry I'm so slow with this, but I couldn't find a quicker way. Thanks for your help getting me this far!

I think you can set up your track pad on macbook so right side will copy and left side opens things. On ipad you just press down until you see the copy logo pop up.\

Below is how you change your trackpad on macbook

Open System Preferences either by clicking on the cog icon if it is in your Dock, or by clicking on the Apple icon at the top left of your screen and then System Preferences. Then click on Trackpad and in the Trackpad preferences select: 'Click or tap with two fingers'.May 1, 2015

  4. Yes, that's what my head is telling me but my heart feels a little guilty doing things that they won't be included in. My DH has no problem with it at all. lol I guess we'll just play it by ear and see what happens.

Besides what's listed on the Princess website, do they let you know once you're on board what perks are available to you as a suite guest? Or are you left to figure that out on your own? Since this is our first Princess and first suite, we have no previous experience here.

    .

We stayed in a suite in July. First time on a Princess Cruise. Whatever is listed on website is what you will get. Here are a few things I found out. My wife and I don't drink so we asked to have booze taken out of room and replaced with soda's. We had enough soda's for the week. Or you can have a coffee card instead of the booze. I pre purchased coffee card so did not use this option. We used the free laundry service. Our cabin steward took care of that. Every afternoon we had a tray of food in cabin waiting for us to eat. Two corsages were there on formal night. We used room service breakfast twice. It was on time and hot. Our room steward did not tell us anything about what suite benefits we had. We received letters telling us we had access to elite lounge for drinks every night. We used club class dining which was a great perk. We used crown grill on first night; also a suite perk. We ate breakfast in Crown Grill

  5. Please give details on Feb 2019 R and R cruise, princess having hard time finding it. Thanks.

since the rules of cruisecritic will not allow me to post the website; because the website is a travelagent site; they have been hosting rock and roll cruises for 25 years. From what the gal who runs it told me is; they can book the entire cruise with entertainment package; or you can book thru your own travel agent; and pay the tour operator for the entertainment. They entertainers will headline in the Princess theater; they only sell enough tickets to fill the Princess theater; so I am guessing that is 800. Since the ship holds around 3100, 800 people will have special access to all the mainline shows in the theater, and side shows which will be in both Club Fusion and Explorers lounge. If you would like more info search for concerts at sea

  6. Thanks for the quick reply and for describing your procedure in more detail. I'll research Shutterfly options for my MacBook Pro, iPhone, and iPad. An automatic upload to unlimited storage sounds great, as I found that the pictures use up storage on the iCloud and Google Drive (which aren't free) very quickly!

Oh my gosh, I love the beautiful picture you posted! The Ikebana boat was my favorite exhibit in the Chihuly museum.

Shutterfly is one cloud photo service that won't delete any pictures; even if you don't buy anything from them. We usually make photo books from our travels so we may buy something twice a year; but use their storage for everything

  7. AF-1, I have a question about your family suite...I know you said you couldn't use your balcony much, but what was below it? It looks like part of the upper promenade deck. Were there ever people below your balcony? Or noise issues of any kind?

No noise at all. Below we saw mostly crew who would get the ship ready to come into port. Because it is the most forward facing cabin; but on the side of the ship; there is no other cabin or wall to block the wind when the ship is at sea. Even sailing out of Puget Sound the wind was pretty strong. We loved the cabin; but would have liked to have used balcony more.

  8. Yes, we have been on Princess twice when the "Rock & Roll Concerts" described above were on the ship. We participated once ... the first year after Paul Revere died so now it's Paul Rever's Raiders.

OCruisers you are correct with the name. That is the cruise I am talking about. The Feb 2018 is sold out and the Feb 2019 just went on sail. We booked to get the sip and sail package.

  9. Thank you for this helpful tutorial! I have been using Tapatalk from my iPad, but the biggest problem has been trying to make sure pictures all of the pictures (from 2 cameras and 2 iPhones) are stored in the same place, so it's been somewhat of a 3-ring circus.

I have used Shutterfly for some photos in the past. May I ask, how you get your computer to automatically upload to Shutterfly? I have some pictures on Google Pics as well, and probably have some in iCloud, but it's all very confusing to me. :o Also, as a technically-challenged Apple/Mac person, when you say "right-click", does that mean copy and paste?

    Thank you!

Yes right click means copy and paste. I hope I did not confuse you. I have a mac and ipad; but I also use a pc with Windows 10. When I come back from a trip I put my camera media card into my pc. It uploads all my pics to Microsoft photos; from there they automatically are uploaded to Microsoft one drive(microsofts free cloud storage); I have an app on my pc called shutterfly express (which basically is a quick way to upload photos to my shutterfly account. So from media card to shutterfly app I upload all my pics into a new album; in this case I made a Alaska Cruise album which has about 600 pics. When I post pics on cruisecritic I open my album on shutterfly and copy and paste into cruise critic. I believe the same process is available on a mac. Use iphotos or use the shutterfly express app for mac.

  10. for those who want to post directly to cruise critic; I have found the easiest way for me to post is as follows.

    1. download all my pictures to my computer or laptop

    2. I have auto upload programmed for Shutterfly website (the website will never delete your photos)

    3. sign into shutterfly and go to my photo album.

    4. pick out the pictures I want to put on cruise critic and right click the photo and paste it here.

    5. this pic took less than a minute to do

  11. Awesome review! My wife and I will be on the Ruby next Saturday and these pictures have us very excited! We are scheduled to do the Dog Sled Adventure in Juneau. We originally scheduled the same tour (with the 2 landings) as you through an outside company, but received an email about a month ago that said our tour was cancelled. So we booked the Dog Sled Adventures by Helicopter through the cruise line and are hoping to do this because your pictures look AMAZING. I hope our tour goes as scheduled :D

How was the weather on the glacier for the dog sled tour? This is probably the most perplexing part of packing. Any advice on how to dress for the excursion?

    Thanks in advance!

We took the dog sled tour on the glacier in July. The temperature on the glacier was warmer than we thought. We wore rain jackets and had sweatshirt underneath; hat and gloves. Did not need hat or gloves

  12. Gang Princess does have rock themed cruises. They have one planned in Caribbean next Feb(which is sold out), and then next Sept 2018 on Emerald to Alaska. It is sponsored by a separate website but they have been using Princess ships for past five years. I just booked myself and wife; and my sister and brother for Feb 2019 on Caribbean Princess western Caribbean. We are doing a family reunion on this cruise. Lineup has not yet been announced for our cruise but the Feb 2018 cruise has Rare Earth, Drifters, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Mitch Ryder, The Cowsills. I like all these groups; the 2019 list should be up by end of this year. If you have any more questions let me know
