  1. I would love to say that none of these hassles would happen on a B2B on Cunard, but, if I’m honest, they’d would probably be worse. 😀
  2. That sounds very grim. Poor you. I’m very glad you managed to gain enjoyment despite that.
  3. I honestly don’t think Cunard drinks are that expensive compared with, say, a London bar or restaurant. And remember, you get served at your table, provided with hot canapés, if you are lucky, and, from the Commodore Club at least, have the best view in the world. In fact the wine prices compare very well with the traditional hotel we sometimes stay at in Devon.
  4. Sad or happy? Both, I should imagine.
  5. I am not sure whether that is better or worse than the half hour conversation a whole coach heard, where a man described in detail breaking up with his girlfriend, which seemed to involve fairly public sex with a third party (him) and a television hurled through the window (her). At least you don’t get that on Cunard.
  6. The ship is wonderful on port days: calm and spacious. You would not be the only ones, and lots of people, like us, might get off for a wander in the mornings and come back for lunch. A minority of people never get off, but enjoy experiencing their ship when she is partly empty. Your children are very lucky and should have a splendiferous time. There are not so many activities but I think the children’s clubs are open.
  7. How did you keep warm when you lived in Scotland, if you eschewed sweaters? None of my business, I know, but vaguely interesting. 😀
  8. Indeed you the same happens on the train to Waterloo. 🙂 Some people seem to talk so loudly that they appear to be trying to banish the need for a phone.
  9. Anyway I thought this wondrous new system was supposed to work brilliantly from cabins, so no need to use public places.
  10. Thank you. Interesting. Whenever I’ve embarked there, security has been last. They must have completely reorganised it.
  11. What is that sinister green colour that looks like verdigris?
  12. In fact, the Q6s seem to have much more space to me, because they don’t have the huge bar unit thing getting in the way. On QM2, the Q5/6s are 500+ sq ft in the last brochure I checked.
  13. You can still use the train. There will also be buses/coaches between the three, but I don’t know anything about them.
  14. If it’s not a strike day, which can be checked on the National Rail website, all the above can be reached easily by train from Soton. Stay in Southampton, having arrived in the train from Gatwick, then you can abandon your luggage there, while you take day trips to the others. Bath would also be possible. If you can book tickets as early as possible.
  15. Yes, I too would find that too hot, but glad you got action.
  16. Interesting. I don’t follow this sort of thing much, but vaguely remember a TV programme where they analysed the DNA of some prehistoric bones found in a Somerset village, and were amazed to discover that several of the current inhabitants were descendants. Anyway to return to the coffee thread that gives him two language groups to use on the machine.
  17. Is Fruliano a Germanic or Romance language?
  18. If he comes from near Trieste, his ancestors could even be Austrian, which would give another language for communication. 😀
  19. No chocolate either. Worse and worse. And with the availability of hot baths and central heating, I’d have wanted to stay at home.
  20. Though not too difficult to catch up the ship at another Canary Island.
