  1. Transfers are the easiest option, but as you say they are quite pricey. It is a fairly long drive from Rome to Civitavecchia.

If I were doing it then I would use the train. That can be extremely cheap if you use the local train. However, I would suggest looking at prebooking a ticket on the fast train. This has a couple of advantages over the local train. It is quicker and less busy than the local train, especially when there are ships in port. We used it when we were in Civitavecchia on a port day and it was much more comfortable and we were able to reserve seats.

It was surprisingly cheap, Just having a quick look online, it is showing a price of 9.90 per person for Termini-Civitavecchia for a randomly selected date on the intercity.

    The website is trenitalia.com

The negative side of this is that you still have to get to Termini to catch the train, and also to the cruise port from Civitavecchia station, which is about a mile. Only you can say how much of an issue that would be, but a taxi from the station should be quite cheap.

Edit: I notice you are flying in the day before and staying at Civitavecchia that night. Does that mean you aren't planning on going into Rome itself? If not then a transfer from the airport becomes a little more attractive, as on the train you have to first get into Rome from the airport and then back out to Civitavecchia. That obviously makes it more expansive and is starting to become quite a journey after a flight. At least you will arrive at Termini from the airport so are just changing trains, but you the total journey is going to take a few hours.

Another Edit: I thought I recognised your name. You were on the Spirit at the same time as us at Easter. I take it you enjoyed the ship. :)

I agree. I hadn’t planned my transportation before arriving at FCO. If I was tired, I would pay more and take private transport. If I felt ok, I was taking the train.

I took the train. It was very easy, even with the train change. If in Rome, I would take the express train from Termini. Yes, it costs a bit more but I appreciate the convenience.

If taking the train, note, you may have to carry your luggage down and then up a flight of stairs in Civitavecchia.

  2. Only if prices are the same! I got assigned in April for a February cruise. Would have preferred a higher deck, but rebooking now would be several hundred a person more.

Exactly. It is a lot more money now. It is fine, but I agree, I was surprised the cabin was booked so early.

  3. I booked a balcony guarantee on the Bliss in July 2017 (sailing fall 2018). I was assigned the lowest balcony cabin (BF) late last year (almost a year before sailing). I was surprised it was so early. I asked, but unlike other cruise lines, you cannot move cabins within the same category (with a guarantee). I got a really good deal, so not complaining.

  4. I see Tenors of Rock listed on the Daily for tomorrow...if these are the same guys I saw in Vegas in January, they are freakin' amazing! If so, I hope they are on the PC cruise also.

And thanks for all the studio photos. It looks great.

They are great. They were on the initial Escape TA a couple years ago.

  5. I have AT&T. I used the $10 per 24 hour plan in Europe last year. I turned my phone on around 1pm on Friday and shut it off around noon on Sunday. I paid $20.

It uses your data plan, phone and texting plan.

Getting off the ship will be a bit different, though. If you turn your phone on when you arrive in port, it will cost $10 per day. Even if you don’t use it for 24 hours.

You use your phone on land just as you would at home. Make sure data is off when you are on the ship. I generally have my phone off on the ship as the costs are much higher.

Yes, it is cheaper to have an unlocked phone and a local SIM card is cheaper but I liked the convenience of my phone number in case of emergencies.

    Hopefully this helps....

  6. If you're in a suite, talk to your butler and see what he can do. We just got back from our first-ever cruise today, during which our butler brought us another bottle of the sparkling wine when he noticed we had opened ours, said that not everyone wants them. The steward tracked my husband down on the second day and gave him a bottle of merlot. We found the sparkling wine drinkable but just fine for mimosas while the merlot tasted like nail polish remover. LOL

    Mimosas, it will be....

  7. Someone mentioned latitudes members get a bottle of bubbly in their cabin. Is this something new?

Relatively; when they change the "perks" for Latitudes in Feb 2017 what was a perk for Gold and above was applied to everyone.

Look at https://www.ncl.com/nz/en/shorex/225902259/latitudes#!#tab-rewards-3 for all the perks.

Has anyone been able to get it switched to a white or red wine (no bubbles)? Thanks

  8. I just had priority check in from our TA on Princess. However, it only allowed us to go in the priority check in line but not priority boarding. We didn’t use it as there weren’t any lines when we got there.

I expect people think it is priority boarding too....

  9. Here’s an example: in December 2015, the Pacific Princess was sailing its 50th Anniversary cruise with the Love Boat cast onboard for the whole 14-day cruise. It sold out quickly and unlike the norm, few people canceled so that Guarantees could be assigned. Two days before sailing, there were still about twenty cabins to be assigned and no available cabins. Passengers were offered great moveover packages (free cruises, huge amounts of onboard credit) but few took the offer. Don’t know what the final offers were but they had to have been huge. My sister and I each had oceanview cabins. We were offered the Owner’s suite if we would give up our two cabins. We did. Somehow, and with a lot of juggling, Princess found cabins.

You’ll have a cabin and will be sailing. Enjoy!

Wow! That is a great offer.

  10. Are you past final payment? Who did you call to change payment? I paid a few days ago. I'm thinking of buying OBC but I know I will not use all of it. Would it be refunded to a different credit card if you register a MasterCard to shipboard account?

    Yes.
