  1. We did the same thing a few years ago. Traveling with my mom who has mobility issues. We took a water taxi from the airport to our hotel near St Marks (Hotel Violino d'Oro). That allowed for us to spend the afternoon and evening in that part of town.

The following day, we took another water taxi to the ship. Overnight on the ship. The following morning, some of us got off the ship and wandered in areas closer to the port and train station.

Back on he ship mid-afternoon for sail away.

Staying near St Marks was more expensive and water taxis are about 100€ each way, but well worth it for convenience.

  2. Water taxi:

Well worth the money in my opinion. Yes, it is expensive. Round trip from airport to hotel, and hotel to cruise port was nearly 200 Euros. Still, the ride in was amazing for someone who has never been to Venice, and the convenience really could not be beat. We saw countless others struggling to roll their luggage over cobblestone or lug them up the bridge stairs, and it looked awful.

I agree, water taxis are worth it. I too did it on my first trip to Venice when we stayed near St Marks!

  3. Don't pay attention to those that say your cruise will be repriced. It absolutely won't. They've got your money. They don't care if anyone shows up.

All you have to do is call and ask what if..... to confirm this

If you don't cancel her, you will not receive double points

Unless they changed things recently. My friend tried to cancel her husband, now ex-husband, from her reservation. They tried to charge hundreds of dollars more. She said, just leave it alone. Basically, the husband no showed.

  4. I'm pretty sure there was a gratuity added. I meant to buy it pre cruise from the cruise planner but ran out of time.

Also tall drinks required two punches. Our daughter bought us coffee one morning with her card and it was 4 lunches for two tall coffees.

Thanks. I sailed in November, right after it was introduced. I used one punch per drink no matter the size. 2 punches makes it not as good of a deal but still something to look at.

  5. The included coffee is ok. Not great though. If you buy the coffee card pre cruise it's about $31. On ship it's $36. We both think they offered iced coffee but really can't remember. The coffee card is a good deal though. Cuts the price if the drinks in half.

Did your cost include the service charge? I paid $36 late last year, on board, and that included the service charge.

I have another cruise coming soon, and want to make sure the card isn't more on board.

    Thanks

  6. Hi, I booked a beach bungalow for my friends and I on our upcoming cruise stop in Coco Cay.

I didn't have their reservation numbers at the time but now I do. I went to the website to modify my reservation to add them and received an error message. Called RCCL to add them, and I was told I didn't need to add them. I know I can go to the shore excursion desk when we board.

Is it true, they don't need to be added? Don't they need wristbands?

    Thanks

    Dena

  7. In 2015 we took an English language cooking class at the main (La Bouqueria) market on La Ramblas. My husband was reluctant and whined for days prior, but I could see he really got into it. Afterwards, I asked him "so, when did you stop being bored?" "When the chef started talking!" It was the highlight of our trip.

First after a little introduction, the chef took the group down in the market to buy our lunch ingredients. We learned how to select the best ingredients. Then we went back upstairs and everyone had tasks to do to prepare the lunch. We made gazpacho, Spanish omelet (with potato in it), Paella, and Creme Catalan (including torching the sugar on top). While we were cooking, a server came in and set up a lovely table, which we then filled with our food and ate together. She also cleaned up ALL the mess!

Afterward, we had a little restaurant talk, with addresses and what to order. Our recipes were emailed to us.

The class cost about ~$80 in Euros. We booked on line well in advance. It was worth EVERY PENNY!

That sounds great. Do you remember the name of the company?

  8. San Giorgio is very popular. I waited too long to book my hotel so it was much higher in price. I stayed at Hotel De La Ville. It was about a block from the San Giorgio and closer to the train station. I was traveling solo and ended up with a huge corner room with an ocean view. Great breakfast too...I would stay there again.

  9. I recommend Hotel Arlecchino. It is one small bridge from a Piazzle Roma (last spot for vehicles to Venice). It is easy to take the bus from the airport and walk to the people mover to the ship. Great location, and if possible get a canal view room.

  10. Yes at café Promenade but not at the free standing starbucks.

On Anthem last week. Lady had the coffee card and they had just changed the policy. Small 1 punch Med 2 punch and large 3 punch. she was upset because she had been on a month ago and it was 1 punch for 1 coffee. She was mad because it cost her more to get a large coffee with the card than it would have without. I watched them charge people 1, 2 or 3 punch all week. warning them when they ordered. So I don't think it was mistake.

I agree. This policy would no longer make it worth it. Since there is no deal to buy ahead of time, I will buy on board. It was one punch per beverage in November.
