  1. I'm so glad you are enjoying the review! I am enjoying re-living the memories as I write it. Sitting on my deck now with a glass of wine as I continue tonight's installment :D

I would love to visit Rome again in the fall or spring, but that will have to wait until after retirement because I am a teacher. I never complain that I have set vacation dates though because they are plentiful, just not always when I want to take them! Also, great point about the public water fountains in Rome! I had to convince my husband that they were ok to drink because I had read about them on cruise critic. We refilled our water bottles a few times at the forum and at Pizza Navona with nice cold spring water!

We actually took Brita bottles with filters. Never had any issues and used in all the different countries. No need to buy water.

  2. Puerto Rico is part of the USA, as is St Thomas, St John, Guam and Alaska.

You are paying ATT for service in the USA. (certain plans include Canada and Mexico)

Hmmm the last time I checked Alaska was a state, like Hawaii! [emoji6]

Love AT&T when traveling and with iPhone is wonderful.

  3. We haven’t been invited on a cruise with them, but have been to several land auctions. You get invited back by making purchases. We have always bought as the DH loves this time. I am his gage for knowing our limit. We have never felt pressured by Parkwest. We have always been treated more than fairly. Personally I would go if asked!

  4. If you have trip cancellation insurance, they will reimburse you for anything RC did not give you back when you canceled. You might check with the credit card that you paid with to see if trip cancellation coverage is a benefit they offer. I’m sorry to hear about your husband.

Agree. If you have insurance and have to cancel for health it will pay there may be a note it has to be new illness. If you have a diagnosis and it acts up, like heart failure, then probably won’t get a refund.

I am so sorry about your husband and hope this works out for you to get your money back and he does improve.

DH tried really hard to capture the magnitude of St. Peter's Square, but by now it was noon, and about 95 degrees and I'm starting to get cranky from the heat and lack of caffeine and food. Time to head back to the hotel for a short rest and to change into shorts. We walked a bit and found a cab, the driver told us we could probably walk back faster, but he was happy to take us. I didn't care, I was happy just to be able to sit down in an air conditioned vehicle for 20 minutes! :) Thankfully the hotel was equipped with a coffee maker and I had some trail mix that I brought from home. We had to meet our tour guide near the Colosseum at 2:15, so we had about an hour to rest and recharge before heading out. Because it was so hot, we were short on time and still had a lot of walking ahead of us we took another cab. Cabs are fairly inexpensive, I think it was like 8 euro.

Great decision because we got there about 45 minutes early, enough time for lunch! Yay, real food! Found this tiny deli style cafe around the corner from the Colosseum, La Prezzemolina. It had a Trip Advisor sign and smelled great so we went in. We had a salad and slice of really excellent three cheese pizza! Sorry, I never think to take pictures of my food because I'm too busy digging in :) All of the food we had on this trip was really tasty and relatively inexpensive. I can't remember what lunch cost, less than 15 euro for both of us (ish) Good food and wine was relatively inexpensive, generally less than you would spend in tourist areas in the States. One of my goals on this trip was to eat as much authentic food as possible! I was amazed to see several McDonads in Rome, and even more amazed to see people actually in there eating!! OMG WHY?

Agree about the food. We are local on the sidewalk and very reasonable priced! Never disappointed!

  6. Thank you :) More time would have been great, 3.5 hours is definitely not enough time for the Vatican! We would have loved another day to go back and stroll through at a leisurely pace!

Agree there is so much to see. We used Steve Rick’s app and bought our tickets ahead of time. We were able to get the shortcut by tagging on a group going out. We were tired and wish we had done this when we were not!

  7. We arrived in Rome at 6 in the morning. Dropped our luggage at the hotel and off to the Vatican. We spent the day and arrived back at the hotel at 5:30. Went to take a 30 minute nap that lasted 4 hours! Went to eat dinner and then did the Coliseum the next day. We then spent another day at the end of our cruise going back to see The Basilica again. Was awesome. I wanted 2 more days! Loving your review!

  8. Hi all thanks for the info so far.

I guess I was just looking for an over all feel. Glad to know about the no smoking in the casinos.

    Here are some more I thought of ;

    How does formal night work?

    Does everyone have to participate?

Also how is the timed dining and sitting with random people?

Does the ship have popcorn for the movie on the deck?

Are there any special themes for the buffet?

What about the drink packages? Do they ever have free offers like NCL?

There are formal nights. This is only my opinion & feel if someone prefers not to participate it is a great time to check out other venues than the main dining room.

I don’t know about the popcorn.

Usually the main dining room has themes. Depends where you are sailing.

RCI does offer free things through the loyalty program. We have never bought the alcohol package but do the soda. We get it with the WiFi. As Diamond we get a place to go to get drinks and they put 3 on our card for each evening 5:30-8:30.

    Hope this helps.

  9. Thanks for the replies. What are the 3.5 hours in the evening for drinks?

Also, mentioned was specialty coffee in the DL. Do you know if that's the case on Navigator too? Our son loves coffee, and I have already purchased him a coffee card for our Nav sailing in December. I will cancel if he can get them in the DL.

    Thanks again.

Yes for Navigator but the specialty coffee isn’t like getting at Starbucks. It is more out of a machine. My husband did not like it.

  10. I didn’t ask if it was worth it. I’ve already decided that it is worth it.

I want to know the duration of the excursion.

I loved it and it was worth it to me! I would allow 1 1/2 hours just to be sure. You do a bunny jump to be sure you can do the long one. It is so awesome and I’ve done several.

  11. Just wondering if the OP, had any type of cruise insurance?

I have in the past, obtained insurance that covered intinerary changes and would have been covered, if I chose to cancel.

Disclaimer: I personally never had to use it :p

The OP hasn’t responded for a while. Possibly due to how it might feel he’s being attacked. Very admirable that he wants to do in starting his marriage off on the right road. I agree about the insurance, let’s hope he had it. I also love South Beach! So much to do. Coco Cay was canceled from our cruise next May. I was just at Labadee and thinking a cruise ship day might be awesome! Hope this works out and you let us hear from you.

  12. Although I am a more frequent land traveler vs cruiser, my cruises are almost always European cruises and, yes, delays can occur. For this reason, I always arrive at least a day prior to the cruise and depart a day after the cruise ends. That way, I have never had problems with delays and have the added benefit of exploring my embarkation and disembarkation cities in a little more depth. The Med is wonderful - don't know which ports you will be visiting but there is much to see & do. Our last Med cruise began in Venice and ended in Barcelona. We arrived Venice 5 days before the cruise & departed BCN 3 days after the cruise ended (my niece had never been to this part of the world before so gave her a little extra time to soak in the local food, culture & sights).

We have a Danube river cruise booked in October - we are arriving Munich 5 days before the cruise and staying in Budapest for 5 days after the cruise.

My advice would be - go & enjoy!

Totally agree. We arrived 2 days early and stayed a night then flew out the next day. Was much easier.

  13. When I see some one write a check I think 1 of 2 things. A) That person is old B) That check is going to BOUNCE. For real 2018....

Wow! Old? My coworker is early 40’s and uses checks. Yes checks but perhaps you consider her old. Why would you think a bounced check any more than over drawn funds?

I have been married 50 years, have great grandchildren, still work. We use online to pay bills. I have a Venmo account and use it. We do have checks as sometimes we need them.

I do not pay to use an ATM. We do take cash to hand out extra tips as do our friends traveling with us.

  14. Most of the time, though not always the case for all I am sure, but has been for each time we have arrived...they are already boarding Oasis at 11 am. We check in at counter with no lines, and then walk right on. They are usually even calling all C&A levels by then.

Wow! That is amazing as that is not our experience! We have had to wait. Last cruise something happened on the ship and we were delayed getting on by at least an hour or more. We have gone out of several locations. Where do you usually go out?

  15. My valuables, electronics, hubby's meds, etc go into my tote. I don't care about dinner clothes, luggage always arrives in time, and if it would ever happen, WJ is there to save the day!!:D:D:D

I have had mine arrive late. Wonder why it is such an issue of us changing clothes. We like to feel refreshed. I have never had dinner in the Windjammer and have no issue wearing shorts the first evening. I just like feeling fresh.
