  1. That's why I'm here. I HOPE it's the shakedown cruise blues. For everyone's sake. I have no other cruises to compare it to. This was my first.

There was a booking snafu as well that I didn't relate the details of. Basically I didn't get the cabin class I paid for, was denied a refund of the difference, and wasn't offered a change of cabins until halfway through the cruise.

The mechanical issues are shakedown issues. The service issues are I hope just staffing and training issues. The booking side of things is a corporate issue.

All rolled together it doesn't leave a good taste in my mouth when my friends who just returned on the Carnival Magic from a 7-day cruise paid less than I did and had none of the issues.

They're going to give me a credit toward future cruise certificate, and I'll probably end up using it because I'm a cheapskate, and 20% is significant. But it will not be without apprehension.

It is so great that you found CC, sad you didn't find it before your cruise. :( Now you will have ways to find out some great things about cruising. One of the firsts is how the cruise goes after the refurb. Usually there are issues and you see that in the reviews. It is to be expected as they are rolling out the ship again. Really you can't compare your friends cruise with this one, since that ship did not just have a refurb. Also, RCI is typically higher than Carnival, which is also known on the CC boards.

Sorry to hear you didn't get the cabin class you paid for. You don't say if you used RCI or a TA. I watch my room right up to time, to be sure no snafu happens! Best would be if the upgrade fairy would visit.

Hope you use that discount and enjoy your next cruise! Any cruise day is better than a work day! :D

  2. we have 9306 JS on the Navigator this May!

Do you have pictures of your balcony?

    Thanks!

I took about 3,000 pictures during this trip. I have been looking but haven't found them. Will keep trying. I know the balcony was larger than any Jr Suite balcony we have had prior. We had 2 chair, lounge and table on the balcony. We were right next to the hump. That is why we rebooked this for November out of Galveston!

  3. Please don't take this as any criticism of your post, just supplying information...

Actually it has not been working for me this evening. It kept jumping down to the bottom of the page. Now I'm subscribed!

Thank you for this thread! Watched the video from Channel 11 in Houston, Saw Pete and Marilyn! Hoping you are not injured to badly, not good for a birthday girl!

  4. When I was on Liberty in January I went to the Casino host with my Platinum MLife number... It took her 2 days to verify... and then came back and said because I used the $35 C&A coupon to book the cruise I get NO MLife benefits... I'm hoping the benefits in Vegas are better!

Concur from other posts that you won't get anything from M-Life on a cruise if you used your C & A benefits. For me the C & A benefits are FAR better than the M-Life benefits. I would also say the hotel was not busy enough for the Gold to really be used anywhere. It wasn't needed at any line, etc.

MyVegas game on Facebook and the app for phones: Now I did use the points from this and it was easy. Chose my reward, went to the M-Life desk and had it loaded to my card. When we went to use it at the buffet for buy one/get one free ($33.00 for 13,000 points) and it was quickly credited to our bill. I would use this again. I just did not see the benefit unless I was a big gambler and I am not.

  5. DS planned a 4 day 3 night trip for us to The Mirage. She used a service which was hotel and flight. She was the lowest level of M-Life and I was Gold. My sister played about $800 at the slots, we charge every meal, etc to her card. When we checked out today, she had $1 in comps. Now I don't know what others did to get a bunch but obviously we got not much.

  6. When a patient at our hospital is identified as having this virus, we have specific "rules" to follow with gown, gloves, etc. We also are to use hand washing prior and after being in the room.

As I have read all of these posts (thank you OP for this string!), I don't believe anyone was flaming those, like me, who will not be using the sanitizer. I have very delicate skin, and have to medicate at work to keep from having the skin eaten off by the toxics. I believe though there are probably some that don't wash or use the sanitizer. Worse is when they leave the restroom without washing their hands!:eek:

Food can be a source for noro virus. Lettuce is a big one. A healthcare organization I previously worked for had the Holiday Party at a very high end resort. Over 100 out of about 650 people got sick and I was one of them. It was determined to be the lettuce. When you have it this way, it gets mixed across a vast area. I have a daughter who attended a wedding last year and 100 people got sick, again from the lettuce. All the wiping in the world would not have stopped these outbreaks.

I like the remark about the ABC song while washing. The other is to sing Happy Birthday. Whatever works for you. Sound like most of us have been doing it pretty right to stay healthy!

  7. I'm a nurse case manager and was actually thinking about this outbreak today as I walked through the hospital. The number one way to stop this is for people to have good hand washing. The other thread has talked at length about how people do not wash their hands. Some countries may not be as big on hand washing and the people don't know. This is why I use a towel to open a handle and elbow to push open a door. I carry hand sanitizer with me that is not toxic to me. I try never to hold on to a rail, etc. I do not use pens at the store unless I absolutely have to but will use the finger so I don't get my entire hand. Any cruise line can only do so much and perhaps it should have happened quicker. At this point it doesn't matter as everyone's cruise is cut short. Glad I'm not on it!

  8. Get in touch with RCI for their transfer information. You will probably want to do a walk off with your luggage. There is a lot on here about getting to/from Houston/Galveston. Southwest Airlines is the best for not charging a big fee but you will have to pay if the prices is higher (in thinking if you get delayed.) Here are some threads:

Some of these are a couple of years old but good information!

Enjoy and hope you have no fog!:)

  9. Since I don't know when you will be traveling, hard to say if you will make it. If it is a time when fog is prevalent, I would probably book the next day out. We took a chauffeured car to Galveston and back. We used a taxi in Galveston who transports to/from Hobby. Prices were about the same and 2 years ago about $100 w/o the tip. Happy Cruising!

  10. DH and I were supposed to have been to stay at the MGM in November. However, had to cancel. Now DS and I are going later this month. We will be staying at the Mirage. I'm anxious to stop by the players check in and see what we get when we leave. I'm not a big gambler but do spend money in eating and shopping!

  11.

DaNana, he isn't interested in a cruise as a holiday, I think he's been on so many ships for work, if he was to cruise it would not feel like a holiday to him. Coupled with the fact he gets sea-sick when he has to sail, I don't think he'd enjoy it much! :)

Awe, I must have gotten in too big a hurry and didn't see the post about him being sea sick. :( That is never fun. Thank him and you for sharing though! May you find a holiday that will fulfill all your dreams, perhaps coming to Disney here in the US!

  12. Here you go then....it's all I have for now so apologies it's not much...

The line of people kinda makes me think of the animals going two by two into the ark for some reason! :o

cjdixon4, in reply to your post, yes, he works on refits, this is only the second time he's been on an RCCL ship. He worked on the Allure when she was still under construction in Finland. He's done a lot of other cruise lines, mainly Carnival, with some Princess, Celebrity, Holland America and Mein Schiffe as well.

To be perfectly honest, the conditions are not great, yes it's lovely weather in the Caribbean, but you'll soon get very hot once they turn the AC off on the ship! The toilets also only tend to work for a few hours a day, so you can imagine how, umm, nasty they are when you've got 2,000 contractors trying to poop!

This isn't a sob story, we both know and understand what the work is like, it's dirty, very long hours (he won't have a day off until he comes back in a month) dangerous (he's been in hospital in the Bahamas's before!) etc. But the financial benefits are enough to justify him doing this type of work.

On the other hand he has been to a whole load of places now, although he mostly only sees the airport and the port!

Thank you for sharing photos and your husband! Hope he takes you cruising now and then!

  13. We were on the Dec. 1 Navigator sailing. Disembarking on Dec. 8 took almost 2 hours.

If you can, you should do the self disembarkation, where you take your own luggage and are one of the first to get off.

FYI...Texas residents now have to pay taxes on what used to be duty free cigarettes and liquor.:mad::mad:

My understanding that ALL will have to pay tax on these items. They didn't just hold you Texans hostage on this one!

  14. Hello, I honestly remember if we have met, where are you in AZ? Have you been to any of the AZ get togethers? Perhaps we've met on a cruise.

I think we will do a limo or super shuttle to the pier. We are just now making our flight arrangements.

    ***

Been out here for years, but must have missed anything about AZ get togethers! Galveston is a high cost to the port but just so worth the difference in ports, etc. We stayed in Galveston the last time but thinking we will stay in Houston this time. My niece is in Spring and hope to connect with her & family.

  15. I noticed earlier when you posted about your friends who got the wrong day (day after) for their flight and missed their cruise, you were going on NOS in May! Also you are an AZ Girl! Wonder if we have ever met? We have neighbors we just met at a recent function who travel RCI a lot.

Galveston transportation has been discussed/cussed a lot on these boards. Some get a ride back to the airport and take the cruise line transport back. We used a limo the last time, which was about the same as cruise transport. Some have rented a car, stayed in Galveston & left the car there to bring back as there is no place to turn it in. Others have turned the car in up the road (can't remember the city but north of Galveston) then got another one or took cruise transport back to the airport. It is rather complicated sounding but doable!

  16. Liberty did go out of Miami in the beginning. We always think about the planes being late, etc. Not many times you hear this one! We print out so much and have a folder with directions, maps, etc. We have been too many places the taxi drivers didn't know where they were going! Glad they made it, even at an unexpected cost! ;)
