Just to add, we generally check with restaurant during the afternoon prior to dining. it is while we have been confirming BOGO and prepayment that we have run into problems with not allowing sale price. They refund prepayment and charge regular on board price, or sometimes, prior to restart, we have cancelled completely for a refund. We have never been particularly impressed or bothered about dining in specialty but admit we have been more often since restart because MTD has been such a mess on Day 1 and 2. I don’t understand why they encourage use of BOGO on night 2 (formal night). We have had issues with them overbooking in specialty on night 2 which definitely spoils any ambiance. Sometimes we have changed our time to later when we have arrived for our reservation and they have been obviously overwhelmed. @Jimbo

I always confirm the BOGO and prepayment before we eat. I would probably have had the pre-payment confirmation with me and asked the manager to sort it before I left to prevent a visit to guest services or Diamond concierge. Glad you have made it onto the ship and sorry you had a rough start but got it sorted in the end. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Granted not Royal but still US port - We didn’t have trouble bringing on extra, fresh wedding cake in Hawaii. We declared it and were told it was OK.

Have you tried TripAdvisor forum? I am not aware of one that holds that many but regular reviews of catamaran sailings from land visitors and there are several on the forum that live on Cozumel and would have better knowledge. Possibly contact FlipTours who puts together various group tours regularly.

Shareholder benefit survey error
c-leg5 replied to mythstera's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Thanks for clarification - I have the old form bookmarked which I have always used. I went back to the beginning and can see now the link has been changed at sometime but apparently it doesn’t work - i got the error message too. -

OK, the form I use doesn’t say that. I don’t consider a survey the same thing as me making a request. -

Why do you need a survey to apply? -
They will at least know what is open on a Sunday and will be able to make suggestions in advance for you to research. You can also customize on the day if sargassum is bad. Unfortunately as I said Sunday is a family day and many tours and locations will be closed. If you are looking for something different, Cozumel Trikes seems to be open on Sundays, or one of the photo tours with Tati Biermas http://cozumelphototours.com

I haven’t done it but I presume you know it is at Playa Mia? There are reviews on TripAdvisor and you tube videos. It used to be very popular but the chef moved to the Tabasco tour at Dolphinaris and I haven’t heard much about it recently. Just in case you are looking for Sunday options - Paradise Beach, Nachi Cocom, Del Mar, hotel resort day passes are open as well as most beach bars, Sky Reef, Money Bar, Palancar. I am not sure if all their activities would be available. Since you are on NCL you will probably dock in town. Buccanos Sunday Brinch is popular with ex-pats - not sure if you would need to book. Sundays are the locals family day so there is definitely a different vibe at many places. If you wanted to do your own “Bar Hop” you could always get a driver for the day and customize a tour to visit the same (and more) places - we use ToursPlaza but there are others, or you can get a taxi at the port if you know where you want to go. Even the east side has a different vibe on a Sunday with local families enjoying the beach. I wouldn’t wouldn’t recommend east side if it is sargassum season.

Royal Changes Next Week b/c of Lee?
c-leg5 replied to vision14k's topic in Royal Caribbean International
It won’t be the first time. Hurricane tracks are unpredictable although forecasts are definitely improving. Then there was the Hurricane Harvey Galveston fiasco…….. -
You can probably just take a taxi to Palancar and arrange an excursion from there. https://playapalancar.com.mx/language/en/services-ingles/

I wasn’t quoting you. It’s OK, I was just trying to understand the logic for them doing it like this. PAYG guests pay $10 entrance fee - that is basically a facility fee. For AI I assume therefore they figure the average person consumes about $55pp, some less, like you, and some more. Obviously the facility benefits from someone like you that under consumes but I am not sure that the servers do under this system. I was wondering if it was in their favor to suggest people tip on consumption, or just let them make their own decision based on a proportion of the total AI fee, which is the norm. We have only done Paradise Beach before the introduction of AI. We might return if we had children with us as the facilities are good but in general it is too busy. If we wanted AI, which is rare when we are sailing, we would seek an alternative location.

We went several years ago when it was quite new. There are more recent reviews on Roatan board. We enjoyed it since it is not far from the port of Coxen Hole. My main complaint at the time was lack of shade and being asked to use loungers in a designated area, assigned to a server. I did end up moving my lounger into the shade and the server still found me!More recent reviews imply the palm trees have grown since and offer more shade. We only did PAYG, which we prefer. There are multiple sections supposedly for family, AI., and general. There are some water sports for extra. Not sure of snorkeling quality-we didn’t do it. AI didn’t seem to get great reviews at the time when we went and I wouldn’t consider it a “pampered” type resort. There is/was no pool.

International friends in same cabin
c-leg5 replied to Thoenix's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Lots of UK cruisers have used a US TA for a lower price. Try researching some of the UK boards on Cruise Critic and see if you find any clues or advice. Just note that a US TA wont afford the same protection as your friend would have booking through a UK TA or royal in UK. I presume they would book air fare themselves independently and separate to the cruise? Those are the dates they will use for their ESTA and their address. -

There can be problems with insurance, which you would all probably have to do independently. I haven’t had problems with booking the cruise.
