  1. So did you use any block or it wasn’t a problem?
  2. Looks like you had a good day. We have enjoyed Maya Key several times. Whilst the food and bar was definitely better with the original Fins n Flippers owners we have always found the buffet adequate, but it has been a while, perhaps they have had to compromise like everywhere else. In fairness it doesn’t appear you tried much? I presume the chips were plantains? It looks like the beach is much wider than the original and doesn’t sound like you had any problems with sand flies today if you stayed at the beach? We enjoy the pool also.
  3. You can do it when you turn up. Very occasionally, on some ships, they will ask if you WANT a shared table but generally it is just your party. If we like the location and servers we usually confirm reservation for the following night as we leave, or cancel if we have specialty dining or WJ planned.
  4. OK, then yes she can use the free App. I have never used it since texting became free on the ship but as others have said it doesn’t seem to be very reliable. I recently had a family member that had linked their sailing to the app on my iPad before they sailed, while they were researching one day. When they sailed I was getting notifications of their text messages AT MY HOME before they received them on the ship. I had to turn off my notifications until they returned.
  5. Do they want to text to people on or off the ship?
  6. No wonder the MTD system is having problems.
  7. Ironman does 3 laps of the island for 112 miles to give you an idea of distance. This does not include the road to the north. If I was renting a bike I would probably do their east coast tour on the old highway because of the views, providing it wasn’t sargassum season. However, I assume you are renting and touring independently so from their location, which is just north of International, I would probably head south on the old highway (bike route) to avoid town. There are several bars along the way where you can stop off (Money Bar, Corona, Sky Reef - all have snorkeling) as far as Dona Chely (authentic lunch - check hours), beyond there I think the highway is away from the coast but you could go down to Palancar. Unless you commit to going round the island you will have to turn round at some point and come back the same way. Keep in mind the heat and how strenuous a ride you want. I suggest you look at Google maps for a virtual ride and distance to see how far you want to go. Going north there is a bike lane until town and the another bike lane beyond town. I would think Beach Bums would have maps and suggestions.
  8. Unless the teens are over 18 you would need to charter a private “ hop”. It is probably easier to book a driver for the day and just plan a custom tour so you are on your own schedule and visit the places you want. I am a big fan of the east coast, away from the crowds, but you need to be careful where you choose in the summer when it is sargassum season, unless you just go for a drive-by.
  9. Thanks. I just wondered if they gave a reason. They have been in business a long time. I know our recent port hours wouldn’t have worked with a tour that long so i wondered if they didn’t feel it was viable very often. However, I am surprised they don’t offer the boat option separately although I know they focus mainly on Mayan connections. i haven’t heard of your tour operator. Enjoy your day and please report back, not much feedback on the boat ride.
  10. The menus were listed above although there is more than one food location and I think they are independent, certainly different pricing.
  11. Did you ask Native Choice about it? Is it a time constraint? You would need long port hours for that.
  12. Doesn’t sound good if they have removed seats. We saw crowds of people waiting for the shuttles last year when we were waiting for our independent shuttle.
  13. Presumably they did, otherwise they wouldn’t know it was due.
  14. Certainly used to be the case also you could fly in a week ot two early or leave late or from different airports after a land trip. However, Unless the website has changed again recently it was VERY user unfriendly last year for a couple of repositioning cruises we were taking. You couldn’t determine options without phoning, which requires you to have some alternative ideas already worked out.
  15. No sorry you would have to contact the lobby directly for current pricing. it has been a long time since we went there. I would guess about $20-25 with $10 towards food to include pool and wifi, but that is a complete guess. Their full AI pass is about $65. We have preferred Del Mar in recent years ($39pp AI) for a budget day or Park Royal if we want more facilities and small beach, over the full pass at El Cid. However El Cid has had some decent recent reviews, if you use the search engine, and we have considered giving them another go for a change.
  16. I have never had a problem with taxis. There may not be one passing but the hotel will call for one or next door is Islands which has lots of cruisers although most if the transport maybe pre-arranged through Carnival. Next door again is Buccanos which slso has minimum charge which is credited and they also have waiting taxis or will call. If the party is all adult, and they don’t need sandy beach again they can check out El Cid (minimum pass) or Del Mar Latino, within walking distance of International and whilst there is a cover charge the price will be off-set by no taxi fare.
  17. Playa Azul does have minimum entry fee now credited to food and drink, maybe $15-20pp? maybe try Money Bar, Sky reef if you don’t needs actual beach. When you say you don’t want a club, do you want to eat and drink, pool, sand? Palancar is probably only sandy beach on west side which is PAYG but it is just as far as Azul in other direction. Several other places if you just want restaurant looking at ocean. It depends what you require.
  18. It will be listed on the app. If it isn’t available yet for her sailing pick a similar earlier one for a general idea.
  19. Chankanaab has two docks but several pens as I recall, it will depend which pen they are in how far away they are. Only participants are allowed on the docks, I had to remain on the shoreside, near the main restaurant and pool if I recall correctly. As suggested look at some photos to understand. I think Dolphinaris would probably be better for an observer as PP said but of course you don’t have the opportunity for the rest of the activities that are included in the day pass entrance fee to Chankanaab. https://lolalambchops.com/dolphin-swim-at-dolphinaris-cozumel-review/ Both Chankanaab and Dolphinaris have websites although the Dolphinaris doesn’t seem to be very informative presently, without some extra searching. It only seems to mention Carnival so it may depend on which cruise line you are with whether it is offered although you could always book independently.
  20. If you are planning on booking dolphins independently at Chankanaab I believe you have to make up a lodging if you aren’t booking through the ship. You need to be careful of port hours because the appropriate time-slots tend to get filled by ship excursions. Keep in mind you will also be paying entrance fee to Chankanaab twice unless you can negotiate a discount maybe through Cabana Beach, because both entities sub-contract. For some reason Sea-Trek helmet dive and snuba operate differently. I had a family member do dolphins and manatees a number of years ago. I was an observer and it was too far for me to see clearly.
  21. Punta Sur is southern most point, between west and east coast, if you look at a map of Cozumel. You can do a virtual ride round the island on Google maps. You will need a driver for the day that stays with you, either booked in advance (our preference) or negotiate at the port from the taxi drivers, or alternatively rent a vehicle to self-drive. There is very poor cell service in this area and most likely no waiting taxis for return - certainly not something I would rely on on a cruise ship visit. There is no electricity on the east side and everything is cash only. Some people have reported negotiating for taxi to return for them but again not something i would depend on while on a cruise ship and I like the flexibility of having the driver there if we want to move on. You pay an entrance fee to enter Punta Sur and the lighthouse and lagoon are within the park and probably a couple of beach bars.
  22. Easy enough to get a taxi - they stop on the edge of the port area inside now. Unfortunately, prices have doubled since cruising resumed and are now $4 pp each way to town (5 minute ride). Prices and description for Jaimie's on their website, Jaimie's at Blue Reef.
  23. Yes i have seen that. I rarely do ship excursions and only use them for research of what might be available
