  1. I would be cranky also as it is a great saving on medical? Did you get the recent $250 once off?
  2. Am I right remembering defined benefit means you receive a set amount for life, eg if you live to 100 you will be ahead. I was cranky when Qld Govt encouraged super members to move out of guaranteed defined benefit to more risky super investments, If you remarry a younger wife does super transfer to her on your passing?
  3. I fly EVA Air Business Class for the same reason. It is great to be able to fly out of Brisbane to Taiwan, then to London with short stopover in Bangkok (where I have a shower and enjoy the most delicious tropical fruit). I love their table setting, fine bone china, variety of teas and delicious Asian food. Flat beds are a bonus.
  4. Tell you son there is something to appeal to everyone on cruises. I took both my daughters on cruises which they enjoyed, but had no desire to cruise again. Both are frequent travellers.
  5. It is worth enquiring about your eligibility if you are on a low income, because it is not backdated.
  6. i just booked a direct flight to hobart from gc in feb for $99 bargain Now I just have to find flight home!!
  7. We have taken a regular car across to the island as well as flown to island and hired a car. Once on my own, I paid for a transfer to and from the flinders chase national park, my favourite place which was badly burnt in the bushfires. Kangaroo Island deserves a long visit.
  8. That is a great itinerary Les, with two overnights. Nice to have a cruise to look forward to in Australian waters;
  9. We solve the long distances by booking accommodation at both ends of the island. Then you can meaner and enjoy what the island has on offer, rather than spending a lot of your time driving.
  10. I prefer all inclusive small ship cruising. Usually I cruise with no single supplement, but it still costs around $1000 per night (my limit).
  11. Looking at the current stock market adjustment, I'm reminded I put $30,000 in to my super to cover my periods on maternity leave on no pay. I kept this amount separate to the rest of my super. In a downturn, I was surprised go see most of this amount disappear. I decided I would withdraw my money from Super when my account recovered this amount. Which I did!
  12. We used to pull our children out out of school early at the end of November to access cheap fares overseas.
  13. Me too! I'm a petite large off the shelf in the US. Why not here?
  14. I was amazed when I saw Jetstar weighing everyone's hand luggage whilst they waited to queue to board at the Gold Coast airport. They even wanted to weigh what I was eating. last Jetstar flight. I needed a picnic lunch in Melbourne as it was so far. . .
  15. Qld Gvt talked staff out of the defined benefit scheme. It was a time of people were being made redundant in the Qld Public Service.
  16. yes that policy was a disgrace! They were brilliant teachers who worked under those conditions.
  17. merle thornton and a friend chained themselves to the public bar at the Regatta Hotel in 1965!
  18. 1969 the Commonwealth Conciliation and Arbitration Commission determined the principle of equal pay for work of equal value. The ban on married women as permanent employees in Qld State Public Service service was abolished. However women required departmental approval to continue to work after marriage until 1973. 1970 women were no longer excluded from drinking in public bars in Queensland.
  19. I didn't have to leave when I got married in 1972, so I was lucky.
  20. In Queensland, women only received a refund of their premiums and a low rate of interest on marriage. They were entitled to six weeks' leave on marriage. The rules changed when I married, but the six weeks' leave was still on the books, so I took it. The beginning of my love affair with leave.
  21. When did you resign to get married? I didn't have to resign to get married, but had to change departments.
