  1. We will be sailing in an ocean view cabin on the Equinox and I was wondering if they supply cotton wool (cotton balls) in the bathrooms. Thanks!
  2. I hope she will be in good shape to start her world voyage on Wednesday 🙂
  3. I submitted this photo of me in my childhood! Taken on board Queen Elizabeth in October 1962 on an Eastbound Crossing. This voyage started my Cunard addiction!

    Covid x 2.

So sorry to hear this! I hope you both feel better soon :(. Did you have to move out of your stateroom to a different one?
  5. I do miss "miss a port Mc Naught", he was usually totally correct about keeping us all safe. Things have been a bit scary down here lately, but we are in good hands. Absolutely Jan/Feb is better in Antarctica, there is soooooo much ice still down here, but Jan/Feb is Cunard time for us 🙂
  6. Yes, that's the one I was thinking about. I also did a video, and used a monopod, but the video really is awful, so I listen to the audio, it brings back so many wonderful memories of that cruise. I am looking forward to yours! We are in Antarctica, so I can't really blame the cruise line. It's probably a miracle that there is internet here at all 🙂
  7. I'm on a cruise at the moment, and I can't get to see your video due to poor internet connections, but I look forward to watching your video when I get back home. Cunard never made a DVD unfortunately due to issues with royalties and equity, so we have to rely on audience videos. There is a great full length one by Margaret Gradwell, but I can't access the link right now (grrr when will the internet on board ships improve/) but someone may have that link to share. That was truly one of the best concerts ever. We were so lucky to be there!
  8. There was no welcome reception/dinner, but we received US$50 in vouchers for the restaurants. Both of the restaurants are good, but Matsuri was my favorite.
  9. We received vouchers for dinner rather than a reception/dinner and the breakfast was the regular MO breakfast buffet.
  10. We are sitting in the beautiful Mandarin Oriental hotel in Santiago (along with it seems 200 other folks) waiting for our bus to take us to the airport for our charter flight to Puerto Williams. The excitement mounts! I am keeping a blog of the trip (started on November 20th) at www.whereissafarigal.com. I can't wait to be on board 🙂
  11. Word to the wise. Do NOT drink a Peruvian Pisco Sour by the MO pool after an overnight flight from Dallas. It tastes great, but there goes the rest of your evening.
  12. Well our suitcases are in the hold of our American Airlines plane, and soon we will all be heading to Santiago. I will be taking the idea of dressing in layers to the extreme on the charter flight, so hopefully all will go well. We will know for sure when we fly to Puerto Williams on Sunday. Can't wait!
  13. We fly to Santiago on Thursday so after much planning, today was the actual packing day. Everything easily fitted into our 2 suitcases and overnight carry on bags so I was feeling quite happy and relaxed. The suitcases were both under 50 lbs so I thought all was well. Then I read the small print on our charter flight information:" Each guest is limited to one (1) carry-on of no more than 17lbs (8kg) and checked bags (one) not to exceed a total of 50 lbs. (23kg)" Oh no! "Not to exceed a total of 50 lbs". Together my carry on bag and suitcase weigh more than 50 lbs. That weight limit does sound to be a bit stingy. I am not happy :(.
  14. It's not available in the stores around us, but you can get it directly from the manufacturer on line, or from Amazon. It's not cheap at the best of times, and it's really expensive on Amazon.
  15. Lucky you - we are on the December 22nd Queen Mary 2 voyage and it is still saying that we need a proctored test 🙂
  16. If you are from Southern Africa you have to bring sticks of biltong on board with you, and you need a good knife to slice it. We have been reduced to bringing sliced biltong with us there days, but it's just not the same 😞
  17. My husband had his handy dandy multi-tool in one of our suitcases, and it was confiscated after we boarded in Southampton. It was returned to us when we disembarked in Los Angeles, but it took them a while to find it for us. So on the day before you disembark, make sure you remind them to return it to you when you are about to leave the ship.
  18. We are on the Cloud, but the November 27th sailing :).
  19. Don't forget to pack a bathing costume for the polar plunge, and shoes that are easy to slip on and off when you are changing in and out of your boots 🙂
