  1. They are tending to have a different musician in the Commodore Club every night on this voyage. My favorite is the pianist Robin Rose, but there is also Akos Somogyi on the piano. The jazz trio plays some nights, and tonight it is the Watsons Duo. I must say I do prefer the gentle notes of the piano, at least you can talk, but you can't find a seat when the jazz trio is there, so they are obviously very popular.
  2. We had a lovely send off from Kirkwall today. There was a great display of Scottish dancing on the quayside, and we blew our whistle in appreciation - not once, but several times. Kirkwall is a wonderful port - and the send off just made it that more special :). Sorry the photo is so distant - iPhone issues. We also blew our whistle when the final guests boarded the ship.
  3. Thanks for posting this. Although we are not in such a unique cabin, we look forward to our Balmoral cruise in January :).
  4. Thanks for the info. We will be boarding Queen Victoria on August 20th. I am counting down the days 🙂
  5. This is really not right! Part of the allure of Cunard for my clients is spending their evenings dancing with the dance hosts. This really is penny pinching. There will be a lot of very unhappy people, for very little financial gain for Cunard. They do need to reconsider this.
  6. Sojourn is our favorite ship - glad you liked her! Can't wait to be back on her next year :). According to the email we all received, they will be adding a sushi restaurant. Any idea where this would be?
  7. Thanks for posting this. It brings back great memories of our cruise to the Western Isles on the Hebridean Princess last year. However, it looks like you had a sunny day!
  8. I must admit I had never thought of looking there. However, alas, it doesn't work for me, I just get the message: Unfortunately, we can't find that page
  9. Although things may have changed due to COVID, we have left the ship in several ports on several occasions, and joined it again with no problems. We just emailed customer services at Cunard to let them know in advance. On the recent QV world voyage a friend chose to leave in New Zealand for personal reasons, and joined the ship again in Australia, and they were also off the ship between Indonesia and Singapore for medical reasons. Cunard had no issues with this. For us and our friend, apart from the medical incident, we did know in advance that we wanted to miss some ports, so the issue may be that you would not be able to know in advance when and if you had to disembark and join the ship again. I do so hope that this situation does not arise for you and that you are able to enjoy your full world cruise 🙂
  10. Is the launderette on deck 7 the only launderette on Sirena?
  11. Have lunch in the Golden Lion is it's open. The King's Court is often a bit chaotic. Also we try to make our reservations for the Specialty Kings Court restaurants and the Verandah as soon as possible, then we can sit back and enjoy the crossing. Don't forget to drink your bottle of sparkling wine as you unpack 🙂
  12. I must say it is somewhat annoying that those of us still on QM2 and not aware of when we are going to fly home, have not been told about this sailing even though the QV folks were sent a letter. I am sure there are some US folks on board QM2 with us, who would jump at the opportunity 🙂
  13. I must say it's a little bit annoying that those of us still on QM2 did not get this notice - it would have saved Cunard paying for our flights back to the US if we had wanted to book!
  14. All the information I am getting on board is from the guest relations folks - so I am not sure how accurate it really is. There is certainly work going on with the funnel, and Stephen Payne told me there was a problem with one of the diesel engines, but how long the fix will take has not been shared with us. I do hope that the ship will be back in action by May 7th.
  15. We are bust rearranging the deck chairs............
  16. For those of us on Queen Mary 2 trying to get back to the US, we have filled out a form stating our preferences for flights home and we are waiting to hear back. Meanwhile on board it is almost surreal as nothing seems to have changed - the musicians play, the entertainment continues, so all in all we are having a good, if not uncertain time. This evening we received a typical Daily Program for tomorrow, but no mention of when our flights home will be. It's a gala night tomorrow - black and white, and the insight speakers sound great, so I hope we will still be on board. Interesting times 🙂
  17. It took us about 8 minutes to overtake them - but it was so great to be so close and we had a great time waving away!
  18. Not great I fear - problems with using a cell phone and not my trusty video camera. Queen Mary 2 was amazing, Queen Victoria not quite as good, but she was further away!
  19. Roscoe, you are too much! I love this - I'm so hoping you will be on QV again next year to break up the tedium of us mere mortals :). What is winter without reading your blog?
  20. Would you believe it's still loading......................!
  21. Apparently QM2 needs work on one of her diesel engines. I would upload our video of us overtaking QV, but the internet is too slow!
  22. The Boardwalk Cafe was open yesterday on QM2. The umbrellas were closed due to the wind, but usually they are open. You can get hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken, salad, and fries - as well as soft serve ice cream. It's a great place for lunch on sunny days, and I am sure it will be open in the Med if the weather is good.
