  1. Clay, the problem is the weather is never the same. I have been at the North Cape in a short sleeve T shirt; the time before I wore extra layers and a waterproof, hooded raincoat and was still cold. My advice, expect anything and check the weather forecast frequently.
  2. Probably not in those areas, unless you get high in the mountains and then it is usually “old” snow, packed down and no problem.
  3. Copenhagen is a great airport with easy connections. The danger here are all the great shops!….and forgetting you have a plane to catch!
  4. We had laundry included on one of our trips and the socks (and everything else!) came back presses! Strange experience to have pressed underwear.
  5. You describe us perfectly. In the “old” days we hiked the Overland Track in Tasmania, the Coast to Coast in the Uk, etc….now, years later, we still have occasional spurts of energy, but like lower intensive itineraries…..Viking serves both wishes perfectly.
  6. I liked Comfort Class when I had luggage with me….more room to store it. Also the car was either at the beginning or end of the train so people weren’t constantly passing thru. Standard is just fine, but may be super crowded, especially in the summer.
  7. Yes. The Myrdal-Flam train is a side trip from the Bergen-Oslo. You get off at Myrdal and get on the Flam train which goes down to the Fjord, slowly, so you have time to take in the spectacular scenery. It makes one stop at a waterfall, (where there are “spirits” flying around), before continuing to Flam. From Flam you can either return to Myrdal and catch the next train to Bergen or continue on by ferry to Gudvagen. There may now be transportation back to Bergen by bus, but this is recent…someone with more recent knowledge can comment.
  8. There has been an early morning train for years. Especially in summer, visitors want to get to the Myrdal-Flam connection (to do their own Norway/Nutshell) which takes a full day.
  9. This is the one I was referring to. Your photos bring back lovely memories!
  10. I think there is also an earlier train …check vy.no (also in English).
  11. I use a ball cap plus the hood of my raincoat and it works well.
  12. We did this one. It was low key, interesting and a chance to interact with farm life and the delightful family. I’d do it again!
  13. I think Viking has transportation to the airport.
  14. I don’ know if this is still true, but the last I heard, the Stalheimskleiva road was closed due to heavy vehicular (buses?) use and the government was considering closing it permanently. Anyone know if this is still true?
  15. We have walked it on a nice day…the problem is that nice days in Bergen are in short supply.🥴
  16. This is the one we did, except we had lunch in Voss instead of Geilo.
  17. This is different from what we did. Ours was on “Homelands”; “Voss, Geilo &Bergen Railway”. We took the train from Voss to Geilo and it did not include Flam-Myrdal.
  18. Pretty hard to do by yourself from the middle of the Eidfjord. Easy to do from Bergen before the cruise begins. Voss, Geilo and the Bergen Railroad is an excellent second choice if the Flam trip is fully booked, and always check when you go onboard for cancellations.
  19. Took us an hour and a half to get from LHR to Greenwich, with a great driver in very heavy traffic.
  20. Have you considered Viking, which seems to be the “expert” in this area. They have some interesting itineraries that include both Norway and Iceland. 18 year olds are considered adults, so that would not be a problem with this all-adult line.
  21. I have had snow in both these cities, as well as Bergen, well into May. With long hours of daylight, it didn’t last for days.
  22. Den Gyldene Freden is my favorite old town restaurant. Went there the first time as a student (decades ago) and it is still great. If you can get a table in the cellar, do.
  23. Consider booking a tour that takes you to The Blue Lagoon where you can store your luggage and will then pick you up at a designated time to continue to the airport.( re.is).
  24. There is a free public walking tour of the Stockholm Old Town ( stockholmfree tour.com). Plan to tip them at the end.
  25. There is a free walking tour of Gamla Stan (Old Stockholm, you should tip the guide at the end, of course). Agree that Vasa is a must…take the ferry from Gamla Stan (near the usual Stockholm docking for Viking).
