  1. You could easily spend a year there and not see “everything”- - I have been there at least 20 times and there are still places I have never been. Are you mostly interested in nature, WWII history, Vikings, food, handicrafts, fjords or? Ask away!
  2. I really like fish and there was plenty on our “Into the Midnight Sun”. I believe salmon is always available.
  3. Enjoy! We had a number of trips on Hurtigruten and love traveling with them. If you can, pack some sort of removable studded trax for your boots. You may run into very slippery sidewalks in Northern Norway.
  4. PS cabins and above get free laundry service. Definitely a bonus!
  5. We also had a PJS and booked 6 reservations. After one meal at each, we cancelled the remaining four…Nothing wrong with them, we thought the food, etc., was excellent, but we preferred The Restaurant or the World Cafe.
  6. When in Reykjavik, if time permits, visit Harpa, the beautiful concert hall… good place for lunch and there is an afternoon tour that takes you backstage. My favorite museum is the National Museum of Iceland…so much to see; I have spent hours there. Great city, lovely people, good food —-from hot dogs to gourmet. Enjoy!
  7. Same for us; very quick turnaround time. When we returned home, I felt very put upon to have to do my own laundry! Very easy to get spoiled on a Viking cruise!
  8. I spent many weeks in Bar Harbor before cruise ships started to stop there. Part of the charm of the town was the low key atmosphere and small town feel….people wandering the streets, stopping in shops and restaurants, etc. I can’t imagine what it would feel like with cruise ships…..
  9. We have arrived the day before, stayed at the airport hotel and joined the Viking transfer the next day (with the people arriving on the Viking flight). We do have to pay for the transfer because we book the flights on our own. Don’t know if there is an additional fee if Viking books your flights. This is from the US.
  10. Last July we made it from arrival of STO flight to lounge for MSP flight in under an hour…BUT we were lucky, ….very short line at passport control. I would definitely allow three hours….I have changed at AMS in the past when that many were necessary.
  11. On our July cruise, people who tried to dine in the Restaurant wearing jeans were sent back to their cabins to change into something “more appropriate “.
  12. “Norway in a Nutshell” with an overnight in Flam. Almost any TA can book it for you, and some people wait until they get to Norway, but that is taking a chance. I have done this trip in all seasons/all weather….it is always great and the scenery magnificent!
  13. We did this in 2018. We were sailing in the aftermath of a hurricane, so our trip may have been a bit rougher than other WoV. We missed two ports (the trip in front of ours missed three). Still, it was a great trip and our stop in Greenland (missed one) and the Faeroe Islands were on my “bucket list”. Go, but take medication for sea sickness if you are prone.
  14. A little less “snark” on this site would be welcome. People are just asking questions. Thank you.
  15. Recommend: Vigeland (open 24 hours), Munch and National Museums ( both Art Museums, opened this year), walking on the roof of the Opera House (sunbath there if the weather is good), Viking Ship and Fram museums, Raadhuset, Aker Brugge (shopping, dining area). Lots to do in Oslo!
  16. We stayed at The Doubletree by Hilton in Greenwich. Wonderful hotel, very charming furnishings, good restaurant. We would certainly stay there again. Not your usual Doubletree “cookie cutter” hotel. Also, lots to do/see in Greenwich.
  17. Thanks for your answers…..I was afraid it was a Tender Port….not my favorite way for Embarkation……but, as usual, we will manage just fine.
  18. Does anyone know where the Viking “Great Lakes Collection” Expedition ship docks in Duluth, Minnesota? Thanks!
  19. It seems the webcam on the Viking Octantis is not working. Anyone else notice this…..or have an answer?
  20. vy.no is the way to go. We have used them many times with no problem. The website is easy to manage. You may be correct about booking only 60 days out; I thought it was 90, but it has been awhile. You can book your own seats, and if you are able, Comfort Class is worth the extra price. If your booking is very involved, a local TA may be be able to help (many are not familiar with Scandinavian transportation).
  21. We have done this, but Viking will only do this for same day arrivals, departures. Last June we arrived the day before the group arrival and Viking would not transfer us. Maybe we could have lied about our arrival date, but we didn’t want to do that, and managed our own transportation to the departure location. Don’t know what others have done in this situation.
  22. If I remember correctly, last year none of the Northern Norway trips were able to get into Bodo due to weather, winds.
