  1. We really liked the Octantis when we were on her last summer. Big enough so you can be alone if you wish, great World Cafe)!), easy to get around, the Aula is outstanding (no bad seats, (excellent acoustics), and the science lab and staff were a great addition. Enjoy!
  2. Smaller size of the ship and restaurant, and there is only one additional “special” restaurant, (no Chefs Table), so not as many seats available. Having stated that, we never had trouble just showing up….we maybe had to wait a few minutes to be seated
  3. Exactly what I was looking for. Many thanks!I didn’t realize it was the original post about Nespresso.
  4. I have never seen a line….there may be a few people, but no real delay….there aren’t that many people who get up that early, unless there is a very early excursion.
  5. I know this has been asked before, but I can’t find the topic…What size are the Nespresso Pods on Viking ships? Thanks!
  6. Agree! The best lattes are at the Living Room bar…worth the early morning trip to get one to start the day. After a couple days, the crew member knows you and starts the preparation without your asking!
  7. I don’t think there is a set time for anything with Viking Air+. We talked with them 330+ days out with “suggestions” of flights/seats we wanted, and discovered the next day those flights and seats were booked on thenDelta website (on Delta/KLM). Refundable tickets, so no sleepless nights over “what ifs” and we will see what changes in the next 7+ months.
  8. If you arrive or leave the same day as the Viking Flights arrive/depart, you can use the Viking Transfer at a cost of $49 pp (2022 price) each way.
  9. It is the #1 excursion in Reykjavik, giving you a waterfall, a geyser and the European-North American Fault Line. Not to be missed, IMO!
  10. In other words, be prepared for everything. I have been there in May…in a t-shirt, in a raincoat…. and in a heavy jacket, gloves and hat due to snow. You just can never tell! Last year June was beautiful.
  11. We usually have to book our own air to get Business Seats, but on an upcoming trip in 2024, I booked about 300 days ahead and did get Business Class from Viking and my choice of flights. I don’t know if this was just good luck, or if booking that far ahead was the reason. I was charged then and the flight (refundable) was ticketed by Delta.
  12. We had to request the hard copy. Thereafter it was delivered every evening.
  13. I have stayed in the Thon Hotel Opera, very near the train station, Clean, convenient, great buffet breakfast. Also the Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz, a bit further away. I would recommend both. Thon hotels throughout Norway are usually a good choice; some also serve dinner as well (usually off-season).
  14. The small art museum in Tromso, ( Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum) has some good examples of the North Norwegian artists. It is also close to the city docking location.
  15. Tromso: The Arctic Cathedral, the Cable Car, Polaria, and The Polar Museum are a few sights to check out in Tromso, especially the first two. Honningsvag is the stop to visit The North Cape. Geiranger and Flam are two “musts”. I would pick Bergen over Alesund. The above are just my opinion…I am sure others will disagree.
  16. It seems the only ship that seldom has ports cancelled is Hurtigruten (and Havila but I have never sailed with this line). Getting into Bodo is sometimes a challenge, but they usually manage. Hurtigruten does it twice a day (North bound and South bound), so perhaps practice is what counts.
  17. Books are located all over the ship, in various locations. You can always leave a book and borrow another one. Many titles deal with the location you are visiting.
  18. If you are interested in art, Skagen is the “home” of the Scandinavian Painters who painted in the late 1800s. The area is known for a special light that drew these artists to this area. There is a museum of their art work.
  19. Some years ago we enjoyed the “free” two hour walking tour in Reykjavik. It began shortly after our arrival. Of course, you are expected to tip the guide at the end. Gave us a good intro, woke us up and gave us a chance to get the latest info on places we wanted to visit. We have done this tour in many cities for an intro. Website: citywalk.is.
  20. I agree with your post totally. We were just on the Octantis and could find no equal to the Living Room coffee. The machine on the Second deck came close, and there were usually snacks as well. Would love to know other people’s thoughts.
  21. It depends what level of cabin you book. Soft drinks are in V and DV, small alcohol bottles and soft drinks are in PV and above. Alcohol can be exchanged for wine if you wish. I have never heard of Fevertree tonic, so need someone with more knowledge of this to chime in. Also, my info is from my experience, others probably have different information.
  22. I used Midnight Sun in the broadest sense. Have been there in February when there was about 5 hours of twilight and the rest dark, and the opposite in the summer. I was a guide for many years and took groups to the Lofoten Islands, where it stayed light all night and the only way to get sleep was to switch the head of the bed to looking at the wall and not the window.
  23. Have stayed overnight in Flam at the Fretheim Hotel and would recommend it. Flam in the evening, after the “tourists” have left, is special. You can wander the town, or hike along the fjord without the crowds. The only problem, making yourself go to bed because of the midnight sun.
  24. On our recent Great Lakes cruise, we took mainly Included Excursions. They all seemed to be a step up from the Included Excursions on the Ocean Cruises. By that I mean, they usually included a “visit” to something, rather than just a “drive by”.
  25. There is a guided tour from Bergen. Google “Flam Tours” for more info.
