  1. I should have added, if you want Business Class book it early. It seems Viking only has an allotted number of them. I don’t know this for a fact, it has just been my experience. Anyone know for certain?
  2. We booked 300 days out and wanted Business Class. We compared the Viking cost with the Delta price and Viking was much less, so we went ahead with Viking. We now deal directly with Delta. The only drawback that I can see if sailing deviations are made, we are on our own to adjust our tickets.
  3. We have been on the Mars and have two more cruises scheduled on the ship. I got a mattress topper for my bed and it was perfect. Food is a matter of opinion; I thought it excellent, especially in the Restaurant, but had to increase my daily workout of laps around the ship to keep my weight okay!- the salted caramel ice cream is “deadly”!
  4. Good coffee shops in Copenhagen are everywhere! As long as you like strong, bold coffee you will be happy. Problem is…what goes with the coffee…..the weinerbrod ( pastries) are awesome and definitely not low calorie.
  5. A trip that is called “In the Wake of the Vikings” usually departs Bergen for Montreal in September…I imagine it would it will be listed shortly. You could try writing tellus@vikingcruises.com and see if they have more current information. It was a terrific trip…one of our favorites.
  6. Same cruise….should probably not have referred to it as “trans Atlantic “. I have never seen a seriously reduced price promo for this cruise or “In the Wake of Vikings.”
  7. We are on one of the earlier trans Atlantic cruises and it is almost sold out. The two late summer cruises have only a couple of openings….not sure why it is so popular, except people must love sea days or a way to return to the States avoiding air travel.
  8. It is really quite tasty…just don’t think about the cute little things running around a home’s floor you saw just a few hours previously.
  9. There are so many sea days (11) that I hope Viking adds an additional lecturer, offers the Bridge, Galley and Laundry behind the scenes tours, etc. I have plenty of books downloaded, but enjoy being busy and interacting with people.
  10. When we were younger Lindblad/National Geographic was our favorite cruise line, especially for the Galapagos. Because they had been supporters of the area for many years, they got the best positions and times for guests to go ashore.
  11. Best chance for seeing puffins (if interested) is from May-August in Iceland.
  12. Just wait until you are on the ship and on Day 1 go to the Restaurant (this place may have changed) and book the special restaurants. There are always more reservations available once you are on board the ship.
  13. PS3s are the perfect cabins, IMO. Deck 6. Near everything and not too far forward. Two of these are ADA compliant.
  14. Second the recommendation for Skagen Museum (Skagen Kunsthal). Very special art, taking advantage of the light.
  15. On our Great Lakes cruise the Silver Spirit Package was included, so we decided to compare what we would have spent if we had not had it. We upgraded wines (Viking had my favorite Austrian wine) and had a few drinks and after dinner Irish Coffees (we are not big drinkers). In the end the SS package would not be a good deal for us. I think if you upgrade wines and have at least two drinks per person per day, it would turn out to be a “bargain”; otherwise not so much.

    Pricing

We have two trips booked. One has gone down in price (many cabins available), one has gone up (only a few cabins available). Passenger load evidently makes the difference.
  17. We were on the Octantis this past summer….never heard of the 3D movie or saw use of it. There was so much going on on that trip (Great Lakes) there probably wasn’t room for it!
  18. If it is a Viking pre cruise extension and you arrive the same day as the extension begins and you pay the $49( may have changed), the answer is yes. You have to fill out a form with your travel information (request the form from Viking).
  19. Enjoy! We loved the Octantis….especially because we were on Deck 3 and could. “sneak” into the Aula at the upper level….also a great table in the center of the deck for a huge puzzle table.
  20. Viking has an all day excursion from Eidfjord to Flam, via bus, train, and the Flambana on its Homelands cruise. You get to see a lot in a single day, including waterfalls, lunch at Voss on top of a mountain, and magnificent scenery.
  21. Have you considered Viking Ocean Cruises? They are a bit different (smaller ships, no children, no casinos, emphasis on experiences and lectures, etc.), but their specialty is this area, and they are a Norwegian company.
  22. We have done that early flight from the ship/BGO…We don’t usually sleep well before traveling and once you are awake, Viking had a continental breakfast and easy transfer to the airport. I’d do it again to get home at a decent hour.
  23. It is a very nice hotel, but located a long walk or cab ride from central Reykjavik. Flights were fine. Reykjavik airport can be very crowded, but it is small and easy to navigate.
